4 stars. I really love the art here and the story. It's familiar tg o previous manga but does it well and crisp with a few new things thrown in here and there. I love it.
Love is in the air, unfortunately nobody is sharing an atmosphere. Hana’s unrequited crush keeps on unrequiting and Nanase’s still very taken with him despite knowing all this. Shocking not-very-shocking announcements lead to a quick side trip and, well, a bad idea is always a bad idea...
This book is so interesting from a structural perspective - it is rehashing some of the most common plot hooks from the shojo manga genre, yet within that there is a lot going on that feels fresher than maybe it should be. A little tweaking goes a long way - the bicycle scene is perfect example of a simple inversion that livens something up.
There’s no question of a confession to work towards here - by the end of this book everybody knows everything and we know where everybody stands. I seriously praise the book for giving its characters the sense god (or appropriate kami) gave a goose to actually read a room.
Nanase is a surprisingly strong character, far more than I’d anticipated. Her earnest desire to help Hana, even as he’s crushing her heart into small bits, is very compelling and even if her falling in love is a mite fast, it works. She seems meek, but she’s really just quiet and the book clearly shows that there’s a difference. She has no problem handling herself and I really like her confidence.
Hana’s a bit more closed off still and he definitely has the more mixed emotions of the two, just because he seems to find it way more awkward hanging out with a girl he’s shot down for some reason. That’s not to say the two don’t have great chemistry though, because they do. It’s not necessarily obvious from the dialogue, but they just seem to fit together.
The pivotal scene in this volume takes place at the beach and, while it is rather understated until the end, I very much loved it. Two people are working through their problems and then somebody tries to take the easy (and stupid) way out. The resulting climax just hammers home my point about Nanase - she kicks butt (although I believe she is guilty of bicycle theft).
That said, Hana has a very, very nice moment later on involving the blackboard and it’s just a bit of quiet, confident storytelling that shows character growth in a subtle manner that I appreciated. It’s these little moments that are making this series for me.
It’s not all sunshine and roses - I still find the art a bit looser than I’d like during some of the more SD panels. Certainly not the best examples of that type I’ve seen. The regular art is still quite excellent, don’t get me wrong, but loose art is, well, an art in itself.
And you can’t escape that this book basically has three characters and as much as it works some magic within the story it’s telling, you’ve certainly heard this story told to you before and there’s no getting around that.
3 stars and I’d honestly say the good parts lift this to a 3.5 pretty easily. There are some really good moments throughout. With the promise of the current plot being resolved, I’m interested to see where these two go from here. It’s standard, but a good standard.
We all have someone we love, don't we? Sometimes it's an unrequited love. Sometime the object of our affection isn't even aware of our feelings. Sometimes it's best to keep it that way. However, sometimes a person is unable to move on, until they tell that special someone how they really feel. Even if it's pointless. Hana, after prodding from Nanase, finally told Komari how he feels. It is a relief to get it off his chest, but now he's filled with melancholy, not knowing what to do now. He knows Nanase loves him. She is just heartbroken to see Hana heartbroken after his confession. So now, Nanase hugs and holds Hana and they both cry. I tell you what, the last few pages of this volume are a real tear-jerker. Oh how awful for Hana, and Nanase, and for Komari, too, to know the little boy she's watched grow up to a man is in love with her, and there's nothing she can do about it, for more reasons than one. I'm looking forward to the next volume, as I'm hoping to see if the seed Nanase planted in Hana's heart begins to flower and produce fruit.
Di volume ini hubungan antara kedua tokoh mulai dekat. Nanase tau kalau Hana yang disukainya menyukai guru mereka yang rupanya sudah dikenal sejak kecil.
Gemes liatnya. cinta mereka sama-sama bertepuk sebelah tangan.
4 stars. I really love the art here and the story. It's familiar tg o previous manga but does it well and crisp with a few new things thrown in here and there. I love it.
I so love the chapter cover of this volume! There was a development in the characters, and it was becoming more pronounced how Hana-kun wasn’t your usual guy. That feeling when you see characters trying to be cheerful despite the fact that they’re so pained inside? It’s so heartbreaking, and it’s present in this volume.
“I have an unrequited love.” “Ah, me too.”
I just love Hana and Nanase when they were together. It was nice that their classmates were becoming less antagonistic towards him. You could also see how much Hana really loved Komari. In the above dialogue, despite the mood, it was still so funny how childish Hana-kun acted, saying that they should be friends because of that. They went to the sea.
“I think that committee chairman will definitely fall.”
That feeling when you feel so embarrassed for the character you wished the earth would swallow you herself as though you were the character yourself? Well, that’s what I felt towards Sakashita. And when Hana-kun said “Shall we date?” Oh my, he was so hot I was tempted to say: Yes, yes! Poor Hana-kun. I really wanted to reach out my hand for him to hold. But poor Nanase as well. And when she hugged him, my heart was bursting (it was so sweet, oh my gosh).
“It’s not fine. It’s not nothing. I don’t want Hana-kun to be sad. Hana-kun, if there is such a day, I want to become a girl who can stay by your side.
Holy. The ending at the beach was so amazing! When Nanase didn’t hold his hand, I knew it was for the best. I really admired her courage when she confessed her feelings and I adored her even more.
Oppure la gente fa come me: raccoglie tutti i volumi e poi comincia a leggere? Bah...

Contains Chapters 05 - 08: I am really enjoying this series so far and getting to know all the characters. I am looking forward to reading the next volume and see what happens next.
