Modern Teachings in Ancient Times is a simple but profound book that is beautifully written from the heart of a kind and gentle human-being. It's delightful story-telling presentation captures the essence of the Buddhist teachings while engaging the novice and experienced practitioner alike.
In this lovely book, that began as a collection of personal stories, Losang Samten shares some of his life experience of being raised in a Buddhist family and studying in a monastery for 20 years before making the decision to live and teach in the West. He writes in the same gentle and humble way that he speaks and leads his life. One would never guess that at one time he was a personal attendant to the 14th Dalai Lama or that he is a Master of the Sand Mandala having participated in the creation of the first sacred sand mandala that Western eyes had ever seen.
The book inspires each one of us to discover our unique potential and pursue the path to joyful living.
A profound read on how to be a better human through kindness. I loved all the stories he offered of his own personal accounts as well as ones told to him by his teachers.
Ancient Teachings in Modern Times is a well written book covering a complicated topic. Losang Samten explains all in terms the laity can understand and he does it with humour and whit. It is obvious from reading the book that Losang Samten is a compassionate person who adheres to the philosophy he talks about. A Good Read.
