When people leave home, whether for a career, marriage, or simply to travel, they can never return to things just as they were. Why? Because their travels and experiences have changed THEM, and the events which occurred during their absences have changed those at their previous homes. In "Home", Ulv returns after a long period away at wars, only to find that nothing is as it was. No matter how much he wishes, Ulv cannot turn back the clock. Ask any soldier who has been away in a foreign conflict, if he/she thinks "home" is the same. it isn't and the soldier isn't.

Reuniting with those you loved before leaving will also show you changes in how you each feel upon return vs. how you felt before leaving. Consider the person who left home just after high school graduation - and who stays gone until the 20th reunion. The love interest of 20 years prior is now approaching 40 and may have several children, has gained a number of pounds, and may have soured on life due to disillusions regarding employment, government, etc. They simply cannot (regardless of what fantasies a romance novel includes) "find love at first sight" following their first reunion. Don't expect it, and don't believe stories claiming it.

This is the 4th book in the Viking series of Ulv the young man that went aviking. He is coming home & has Julia with him. They are now on a quest to see if in fact the woman thrall that saved Ulvs life from his foolish antics back at the beginning of the first book is the mother of Julia & Marcus. Going home first his father is not there. Ulv proves his super power obstacle to overcome is to stop emotionally shutting down instead of dealing with actual honest conversations & processing feelings beyond himself as well as in himself. This book is tying up loose ends in his life. He remeets his birth father & all that entails, shows how tonedeaf men can be in relationships & courting women & becoming more cognizant in communication & the feelings of others and reaching ones goals. In fact Ulv even having goals. He is an amusing & infuriating character with Lokki as his copilot, always wanting to do good but creating chaos wherever he goes. Will he change this lifelong streak & finally settle down?

Overall, I like the story. My biggest issue is with how abruptly the books end. They just stop without coming to a good break point. Also, I don't like that there are disruptions in some of the characters’ stories. The story line stops then picks up in a different time and place and completely different circumstance with no explanation how they got there. Sometimes it is explained in a flashback story. In one case this explanation didn’t happen until the following book. I kept thinking there were sections of the book that I missed reading and would go back and look for explanations on how the character ended up where they were. I think that if a character’s background is developed to a certain point, you should tidy up their story line before ending the book. Still, I kept reading the books to find out what happened to the characters.

Ulv and Julia
I am really enjoying this series. Here, we see Ulv and Julia together navigating the world and trying to return to “home”. While at times home is a place, we can see how with this idea changes as events progress. Having details from previous novels resurface just emphasize the interconnectedness of all the characters and events. I found the descriptions about life, struggles and situations of individuals in this time felt so realistic! I also appreciated that not all events or interactions went exactly as planned without complications. Some semblance of stability and closure is achieved at the end of the story, yet I see a glimmer of more to come. I am hopeful for deeper relationships to emerge and to see Marcus again.

I enjoyed book 4 of the "Viking Ventures" series a lot. Ulv decided to return home. Julia decided to look for her mother in Norway. I became so immersed in the story, that I had to read it from the beginning until the end in one sitting. The descriptive phrases made it seem like I was traveling with Ulv and Julia. I really liked these two characters for their strengths and their weaknesses. I was entertained by the surprising moments and held my breath during the fight scenes. I was given a free copy of the book, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Ulv, a Truly Flawed Protagonist

This has turned into a very poor character that is very much a milquetoast in the Age of Vikings.

Squeamish about killing anyone, and is more woman than vice-Protagonista, Julia. He's not someone who I warm to.

Editing better in this novel than the last one. Fight scenes are clearly and simply described, with a little of the yawnable mentions of body swaying and pivots during fights.

The next book in the series might see Ulv grow up a bit and mature.

My Favorite in the Series So Far

I enjoyed the first 3 books enough to keep moving forward to the next. I am very thankful for the authors' skill in spinning a Viking tale. Home is my favorite one in this enjoyable series. Characters are entertaining, action is well orchestrated, and the journey quite exhilarating! If you find my views doubtful dare read for yourself, I trust you will agree! As for me, I must press forward. Perhaps we'll cross paths along the way.

Loving this series as Ulv and Julia finally seem to be striving toward similar goals. Action throughout the whole novel. Anyone into Vikings and this epic time period can expect a realistic veiw of their history and beliefs.

What an amazing story that will keep you intrigued for always. Ulv comes home from a long battle hoping to have peace at home. Unfortunately that isn’t to be. His homeland is steeped in trouble and danger. A story not to be missed.

Fills in some blanks and moves many lost people closer into a family setting. Where’s Marcus, the missing link? Stay tuned.

Modern Twists to Old Traditions!
What a Busy Story! I loved how Julia is such a small person in size, who does many things... and then most of all, goes to a one on one To-The-Death fight with a Huge Man!
They are searching and searching, then they find her mother, and she does everything she can to free her mother, after what she finds out that her 'duties' were when she was taken from her home as a slave...
Thank you, Ole Asli and Tony Bakkejord for a Very Good Story!
I received a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.

The adventure continues with our group of Northmen who wind their way through Europe, as we know it today. Marcus' sister Julia has been found and she is trying to find her mother on the way back home with the help of Ulv.

The road is filled with dangers and the two must, more than ever face them together even if Ulv has not shared his secret with Julia. In addition, Ulv's Homestead is abandoned and he finds his father living with an old lady neighbour who takes care of him as he suffers from Old Age disease (Dementia, in today's jargon).

The author has a gift where she can, literally, take the reader to the multiple locations where the action takes place and where the last sighting, based on a hunch, is located. The research as to the way of life of the Vikings at that period in time as well as the action makes this book a 5 STARS rated work.

RELEASES THIS WEEK!!!

‘Then let’s sit, share a horn, and you can unfold your tale’
Ulf is no ordinary Viking. I remember him as a young lad (in ‘The Silver Goblet’ - prequel) trying to prove himself. Well, the boy’s all growed up and he’s proven a lot. All bards/skalds/tale-weavers have a special talent and he’s been honing his throughout this series.
But he does still need to learn that sometimes, our words are more dangerous than our swords (or seaxes). That’s what makes this adventure tale so intriguing!

Some comments on other aspects:
*Fight preparation, whether in the ring or on the battlefield, is 90% mental.
*Life's situations are not all so simple and processing them takes time and effort.
*The backstory is heartbreaking because of the ultimate culture clash. No spoilers, but I will say that just ’cause someone else’s culture allows for disrespectful acts towards other people, doesn't mean that we need to accept it.
*There are some subtle (and not-so-subtle) power plays by supporting characters. Things have not changed in politics after all this time…

I’ve read many books by these authors and I think this one is my favorite. It just has a down-home, relatable feel to it.

Suggest reading the prequel 'The Silver Goblet' to get a taste of Ulv's character.
