There were only two things I had to look forward finally moving into my own place without an awful roommate, and my Saturday nights at the only lesbian bar in the state of Maine—Sapph. I make it a rule to never kiss the same person twice, but one night I lock lips (and do a little more) with a platinum-blonde, tattooed stunner and I can’t resist having a second taste. After that, I’ve sworn to let her go and hook up with someone new. That is, until she shows up in Arrowbridge driving the converted van that she apparently lives in, flashing her beautiful smile and asking me for a can she park her home next to my house for a few weeks? Out of sheer astonishment, I say yes, and have instant regrets. Sterling Vincent barges her way into my life and I’m not quite sure what to make of her. She’s incredibly hot, sure, but she’s also funny and prickly and wild in a way that I can’t help but admire. The longer she stays, the closer we get, until I find myself wanting to break every single relationship rule I’ve ever made for someone I never saw coming.
Chelsea M. Cameron is a New York Times/USA Today/Internationally Best Selling author from Maine who now lives and works in Boston. She's a red velvet cake enthusiast, obsessive tea drinker, former cheerleader, and world's worst video gamer. When not writing, she enjoys watching infomercials, eating brunch in bed, tweeting, and playing fetch with her cat, Sassenach. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Maine, Orono that she promptly abandoned to write about the people in her own head. More often than not, these people turn out to be just as weird as she is.
Kai doesn't believe in relationships, at least not for herself. Shed rather go to the club Sapphic and have quick "encounters ". Then she has one with Sterling, and a 2nd one. She keeps coming back looking for her to no avail. Then one evening coming home from work there's a white van pulled up next to her house trailer. Lo and behold it's Sterling. This is a HOT and sweet love story. It's also Book 7 of the series, which is a HOT series too! I love this series! 5 stars!!
This was an enjoyable, although simple, book. By now I know exactly what to expect from this series, and if its anything its consistent. I feel like these books are starting to get a bit lazy and possibly riding on the momentum from the previous ones, but that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t still a lot to like in this one.
The protagonists were cute together. I liked their relationship (although it could have used more development) and dynamic. The scenes where they were together were heartwarming and nice to read. There was very little plot and zero conflict/angst; this is a perfect novel for the Hallmark Movie lovers out there who simply want to drift through an enjoyable novel. The love interest was also a van-lifer, which was a neat element to add in.
There was nothing wrong with this novel to complain about, except that it was just a bit on the simple and undeveloped side. It’s a quick and easy read.
Beguiled by Her is a low-angst addition to the Mainely Books Club series. Kai and Sterling are a commitment phobic pair who discover, much to their chagrin, that a little commitment is not always a bad thing. The supporting cast includes several members of the ever-growing compendium of characters that live in and around town. This is an enjoyable read with the anticipated HEA.
When Kai meets Sterling in a brief but intense encounter at a bar one weekend, the last thing she expects is to see Sterling again. Then Sterling becomes Kai's temporary neighbor, and sparks fly. Their sizzling chemistry brings them together, their common sense tells them to keep things casual, but their hearts have other ideas.
Beguiled by Her is an adorable sapphic romance with two fun, quirky main characters and lots of humorous and steamy moments. Like many of the protagonists in the Mainely Books Club series, Kai and Sterling are simply trying to figure life out and, as usual, the rest of the colorful, queer Arrowbridge community steps up to help, which gives the story an added layer of warmth and authenticity.
If you need to escape into an entertaining and spicy romance with characters that jump off the page and drag you into their antics, you'll love Beguiled by Her.
I really like the Mainely Books Club series. They all seem to have the similar beats and there is some dialog that gets repeated along the way. But, they are very readable and even on re-reading they hold up. One thing I wish the author would do is have some sort of follow up where she tells the story from the other point of view. I was reading a few times to try to figure out if Sterling knew Kai lived there. She plays it off as coincidence, and maybe it was. I had to read the next book about Sterling's sister to see if there were any more clues. I've probably read all these books (except Sydney and Lark) three or more times. Great that they are around 200 pages . Anyway, Kai and Sterling's story. The HEA makes sense. If you like lots o drama, might not be your thing.
What a sweet (and sexy) story! I felt like there was more substance? in this one as most of Ms Cameron’s stories are. The last couple, although I loved them and they were well written, they seemed to lack something. Well this one didn’t lack anything. I loved the MCs chemistry. Loved how they started ;) and then how the gradually just grew together. It was beautiful to read. Also loved how past characters come back and having the added Karissa moments was very nice. I love how they all get connected and I wish I could move there!!
Yet another sweet book in this series. I must admit I’m getting lost with all the characters and who’s connected to who! Maybe we need a family tree type of thing in future books. Loved the main characters and thought the lead up to the relationship was good. Obviously they are gonna end up together but the journey was nice, not rushed like something I’ve read before. I still enjoy catching up with everyone from this series and the last. I must admit, vanlife is kinda tempting… Looking forward to the next one.
In the beginning I thoroughly detested the two mc’s. One seemed whiny and the other a bit trashy (my own dumb biases). However, I remembered I was reading a Chelsea Cameron book, so I knew I would soon be won over.
Sterling was innately a sweet, caring person and seemed to be a martyr to Kai, but Kai came around to seeing Sterling with new eyes.
Loved the van-life trope, reminded me of Nomadland, the movie.
Truly a wonderful book, in spite of my smugness. Recommended.
Kai is a non relationship person and never goes back for a second encounter. Sterling is a van traveling nomad who has traveled the country and lands in Arrowbridge, Maine. After a chance encounter in a bar Kai goes back for a second kiss to than Sterling. Then Sterling shows up as her neighbor and they can’t seem to stay away from each other. A fun loving store.
Another fabulous installation in a fantastic series
This book was cute and quaint... And just the right amount of spicy😉. I love all of her books that I have read so far, and I hope she never stops writing. This book/series is the best kind of comfort on a cozy day. Always a good pick me up and never a bad read. Would definitely recommend.
Another good book in this series. Not my favourite story so far, but a good read nonetheles. Kai is stuck in a soul destroying bank job and Sterling is traveling far and wide in her van searching for something she doesn't realise she needs.
I love small town romance stories and this one was no exception. I was drawn in from the beginning and I laughed and felt their chemistry, I loved both Kai and Sterling! I definitely will read Gwen’s story!
I like this series quite a bit. As another reviewer mentioned, I'm getting a bid lost with all the characters as we add two at a time. I don't read one of the books right after another, as I like to vary my reading. This was a good story, and I enjoyed it. I like the book club vibe very much.
Of course this one is great too. Chelsea is a fantastic writer, everything flows, I was at the end of the book before I knew it. Sterling and Kai are great together and it’s good to read about the others from the series.
I very much enjoy reading these short predictable books. I really like that in this book we got to see how Kai and Sterling’s relationship evolved. I loved the van trips. I did notice some blunders in the writing I have not seen since the Castleton series.
So to start the book off, our MC, Kai... Is a bit hostile. She's quite openly rude to our other MC, Sterling and this initially put me off. But pushing through I thought the book evolved excellently and had a great ending.
Absolutely love this series. Even though you know the 2 main characters are going to be together by the end, it's absolutely amazing to see how she gets them there.
Personally, this was one of the weaker entries. Kai was not very relatable to me for most of the novel, and it being all first person from her perspective, it was hard to get into it / see her point of view.
Sterling is kind of an enigma. I have no idea why she fell for Kai, but I guess she did? It was still really cute though, and I enjoyed it!!
EDIT 31 August 2023: upon further reflection, I realized Kai not being relatable to me is false…I think I am actually very similar to Kai in that I am terrified of attachment / commitment because of what it means in case the relationship fails.
