As the first-born, the future of the Unseelie kingdom rests on her shoulders. Niya is the Crowned Princess of the Unseelie fae and her destiny is tied to a dangerous prophecy. She is thrown into the ascension of her parents’ throne in hopes of nullifying it before it evolves into something deadly. When she finds out what her mother has planned for her, she rebels. The independent princess has no intentions on settling down, even if it is with the Seelie king. As Niya fights her way to understanding herself and her destiny, she is confronted with truths she never would have believed, and a life she has never known. After a near-death encounter, she is rescued by the Seelie King and taken back to his kingdom to heal. Through Niya’s growing friendship with the king, she gains new experiences and perspective. Her powers start to grow in strength and her control is more and more uncertain. When her powers take over to protect her, she finds herself at the mercy of an Unseelie Lord and a kingdom that has turned its back on her. With enchanting characters, icy hostility turned to fiery passion, and light versus dark magic, Niya may lose her charmed life or her conflicted heart.
I have so many words and feelings, none of them good. This whole book is like being straightjacketed in a horse drawn carriage on a post apocalyptic freeway.
Maybe hire an editor.
Or several.
Dozen.
If you just wanted to write your own personal porn, fine, but you didn't need to publish it.
The Kingdoms Divided brings a well-woven story of adventure, romance, and magic. We open on Niya, the firstborn of the Unseelie king and queen. We follow as she learns to better traverse her responsibilities as the firstborn and accept her role as the future of the kingdom.
Niya’s life is thrown into disarray as she meets Adryen, the Seelie king, whom she is to wed. And no matter how “hot” this king might be, she has no desire to marry anyone.
Adventure, mystery, and…dare I say it…trauma await our main character. You will be kept on the edge of your seat!
This book does have a good deal of spice. I am not one to enjoy a high spice level, but I try never to rate a book lower based on my personal preference—a preference that has nothing to do with writing quality, story, etc. So, if you like spice, this book is a great read!
The world-building in this book was very well done. Often, fantasy books will be a little info-dumpy in some areas, but this book did a great job keeping you in the action! I do wish there were more details when describing scenery and how people looked, for instance. Also, the flow and presentation were sometimes a bit halting, but nothing too severe.
So, if you’re looking for a spicy romantasy novel, DEFINITELY pick up this book!
Maybe it’s just me….but this book reminded me so much of A Court of Thorn and Roses! It also might have something to do with the fact that ACOTAR was the first book I read in this genre. That being said, I did enjoy this book. It took me a bit to actually get into it…the beginning is a little too slow for me. There were a few times where I found myself scratching my head, and having to look back to make sure I didn’t miss something, I got a little whiplash from some of the characters. The writing was a little choppy at times. However, I ended up really liking the characters once I got into it. I’m interested to see what happens in the next book!
Wow. I have not read a book that captured and kept my attention from the beginning in so long. This is such a beautiful book, I absolutely cannot wait for book 2.
This book has a catching hook that just sinks you in. With characters that you love and a few you will not love lol. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one!
