PanOrpheus is the author of the 'Delphic Oracle' series of books...in the alternate history, fantasy fiction, metaphysical genre. The books in the 'Theoclea' series are generally set in ca. 500 BC, and feature the adventures of Theoclea, the Oracle of the Temple of Delphi. One of her teachers was Pythagoras...and so we have a rare moment when Spirituality and Science were brought together...the ultimate person who 'Sees' meets the ultimate person who 'Knows'. Reincarnation, visions, poetry, and other means are used to keep the action going. The Phoebe' books feature Phoebe (The Delphic Oracle) and add spice and humor to the plots as Phoebe and her friends enter modern times, and intervene into fictional and non-fictional lives and events. His latest book is 'Songs and Stories from Tesla's Tower. PanOrpheus is on the Board of Directors of the Phila. Tesla Club and the Tesla Science Foundation...and the inventor Nikola Tesla or the Spirit of Nikola Tesla are characters in some of the books and short stories. A new book 'The Antikythera and The Source' will be coming out next...
I have really enjoyed reading this series and I particularly like the mixture of historical fantasy with the present. I have no idea what genre you would describe this as because there is such a mixture of fantasy, history, adventure and a great mystery story. Phoebe is now like an old friend and Sam Diamond as the private detective evoked great images of Sam Spade and others! The author is obviously very knowledgeable about history and weaves a magical story that still manages to retain a degree of realism. Strongly recommended but start at the beginning of the series to get the maximum pleasure!
A book that’s stuffed to burst. Here’s a book that manages to blend Greek myth, steampunk, hard-boiled, Raymond Chandler-esque detective fiction, post-war Jazz, pulpy sci-fi, and a bunch of other things into an interesting tale of mystery and adventure. I’d recommend this book to anyone that’s a fan of these types of genre pastiche. The book begins with an interesting meta-narrative that’s a joy to read. The main thrust of the story involves the search for powerful medallion between mythic and mystical forces. Lots of interesting twists and turns along the way.
However, I will say I docked the book a star for two reasons: one, the book is a little sloppy and contains more than a few punctuation errors, and two, I felt the dialogue lacked the concise, choppy punch of that one expects from the detective fiction it's trying to emulate.
Phoebe comes alive in this work of fiction along with Sam Diamond the detective type of times past. There is an impressive amount of research from the author, Pan Orpheus. ‘Phoebe (The Delphic Oracle) and The Medallion of Gaia’ is a fast-paced thriller with constant twists and turns, keeping the reader glued to the pages. The author shows a unique imagination with an entertaining plot and story. Abundant in action and history with a sprinkling of humor, this is a must-read for the serious reader. I like the detail in describing such things as the Indian Motorcycle racing through the streets of San Francisco. The foot-pegs, scraping the road shooting sparks in all directions while being chased by the twelve Cadillac hearses. I suggest this excellent read for any lector that likes fast-paced adventure.
Phoebe, a Greek Oracle meets Sam Diamond, the wise cracking chauvinistic gumshoe from 1976, in San Francisco to help her recover the lost Medallion of Gaia, the Earth Mother. The Lost Cities, Lemuria and Atlantis, The Temple of Delphi. This has the makings of legends have enchanted me for decades. How to marry these together? Leave it to Howard Lipman with his vivid imagination and ability to write a cracking good adventure mystery. Be prepared to be transported through time and space and meet a variety of characters from other dimensions. I loved it! Not going to give away the plot. Quick! Grab a copy and jump aboard the magical/mystical tour and ride it to the end.
I read a copy of this book to give it a honest review. I didn't know what to expect when I first started reading this book. I haven't read the previous titles but the starting of the book had a synopsis that was able to give me a picture of the events that transpired. It also talked about the characters and their roles. The names might be hard to remember and differentiating what they did or didn't do. I guess it would be easy for readers who are fans of historical fiction and have an idea about the characters and mythos already. PanOrpheus clearly knows what he's talking about and there are images in the book too.
The book reminded me of the previous historical fiction things I've experienced, namely the Tomb Raider series, Indiana Jones, and even the God of War game titles. Phoebe is an interesting character and I think a lot of readers will enjoy her journey as she searches for the Medallion of Gaia.
Historical fiction readers are missing an enjoyable read if they haven't started reading this series yet.

An amazing adventure! Phoebe (The Delphic Oracle) and the Medallion of Gaia is a story within a story told from the ancient past that reaches the confines of the distant future. The daring tale has a little something for everyone—sci-fi, fantasy, mythology, history, magic, action, and even humor. Phoebe, the Delphic Oracle, is searching for her missing medallion. She hires a private detective, Sam Diamond, to aid her on this mission. With the help of ancient spirits, reincarnated souls, magic, and even a robot, they battle assassins, ghosts, and a malfunctioning robot to find the medallion.
