The worst lie is the one peppered with just enough truths to blind.
The Fertility Plague stripped us of the ability to conceive. Then it stripped our freedom. I’ve lived my life inside the walled town of Capra. Walls meant to keep us in. Walls meant to keep out the nothingness of the dead world out there. Now the cracks are showing and I’ve looked, and I won’t stop looking until I’ve seen it all.
Knowing the truth is the easy part. Knowing what to do with that truth is a whole other matter.
As a citizen of Capra, I was always destined to graduate, marry a suitable young man and embrace my duty to society. As a member of the Sisterhood, that marriage was always destined to further the rebellion. But rebellion is a dangerous game when you don’t know the rules.
The Sin of Duty series is a post-apocalyptic romance and adventure with some disturbing themes set in a dark, dystopian world. Perfect for fans who love romance with intrigue and danger and an arrogant anti-hero who may just turn out to be a hero after all.
Claire Vale lives in a small town outside London. When she's not thigh-deep in real life, you'll find her head-and-heart-deep in the tangled lives of her characters.
I pre-ordered this book in July and was so excited to get it October 17. I finished it by October 18. It was....a book. Lots of inner thoughts of the main character that were repetitive. Lots of filler events and build-up to nowhere. I'm not even sure what the point of the third book would be. The first book started out with a great premise and it's just sputtered and died. I'm not even sure if the direction of the book is supposed to be a dystopia or just the character falling for her arranged husband because they both are half-written story lines. It left a lot to be desired.
I did not finish the book. The female main character was so annoying that I just couldn’t deal with her. She made the stupidest decisions and when there were actually consequences for her actions, she would play the victim and get mad at her husband. The first book decent but I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at the second book.
I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the third book. I don't know how I'll manage the 2 months until it's released. A couple of minor complaints - very minor. 1 - Georga's brattiness in the first 40?% of the book. Luckily, that changed. 2 - The constant referral to Roman as 'arrogant'. He is not arrogant. There is nothing arrogant about him. PLEASE STOP INSULTING HIM 😭 Ok, after sleeping on it a little - massive spoilers ahead. I really like this book, and will go into that after my Georga rant. Georga stops acting out like a brat as much, but she is still living in lala land. Revolutions aren't all rainbows and butterflies, and her expecting the heirs to be set free because she 'kNoWs DaNiEl LiKe NoBoDy ElSe' while admitting she knows the rest of them by face only... come on. The gender ratio is absolutely skewed so if the men decided to keep the system that benefited them for centuries, there would be no chance for the sisters. Also, Geneva had every right to detain them and was even overly reasonable by releasing Roman (because - we all know he's good as gold, but how is she meant to know this??) Like I tend to say about real-life events... we can't just sit down and have a friendly chat with oppressors, no matter how reasonable they seem. They are aware of the system and how it benefits them, and if they didn't make very obvious, active steps towards working against the system, they cannot be given the benefit of a doubt until proven so. All things said and done, the revolution was relatively gentle and peaceful as far as rebellion goes. Georga is beyond a flawed character, she is hopelessly naive, impulsive, arrogant, and at times infuriating. That takes a star off - but again, that's not a reflection on the writing or story so much. However, there is character growth in her. And I don't completely dislike her. She's growing on me, albeit slowly. I genuinely am really looking forward to the next book and will miss the characters until the third instalment comes out. The author is a good writer, despite needing an editor. That's not a big deal, though. The characters are well written, despite my reservations about Georga. The universe and conflict are fleshed-out and interesting. I complain a lot about Georga, but this series is thoroughly enjoyable, and I haven't been able to put it down 😊

This was a solid read. I liked it even more than the former book of this trilogy, The Duty. The story flows smoothly like it always does with Claire Vale, and it’s easy to read. There’s nothing complicated that held me up while I was reading. Georga has been growing on me. She’s got a temper, she’s stubborn, she has some flaws (I don’t consider temper and stubbornness flaws, I own these characteristics too haha) but she’s amazing. I love and relate to her humour. She’s also been growing as a person, isn’t as stubborn in a brattish way (sorry for this word), she’s maturing after her visit to The Smoke, and her relationship with Roman has finally started, or rather, settled. I loved her loyalty to him even while everything happened, how the protected him. Same with him. I find I really like his character. I figured it probably was a plot twist when Georga was taken by the guard because he informed them, and I’m glad I was right on that one. Seeing their relationship progress was probably a reason for me liking this even more than The Duty. We will see what happens in the last book, The Flame. I like Roman’s character, too. I personally think he’s got the right morals, or has them in the right places. He’s also a solid character. I like him as a male lead, I really do. I love how Roman protects and supports Georga, and how he revealed all his card for her in the end? I wasn’t surprised, it was already quite obvious at that point he’d do anything to save her (*swoon*) but I loved it nonetheless. Also, the revolution taking place has changed so many things in the matter of hours. I’m not sure how things will play out now, and I’m excited to find out! I have the suspicion that overall, the increased romance in this book has made the reading experience slightly superior to me, since I’m a sucker for romance, as I always say.
4/5 Stars is pretty solid, and the 8/10 totally is, too! A good one, Claire Vale, as always. She writes such steady books that don’t leave you hanging.
Read from 08.01.2025 to 09.01.2025 Review written 09.01.2025 (European dates used)
There are so many technical problems with this book that it took me out of the story. For example, on pages 33, 34, and 35 says Jenna instead of Jessie. Seriously? Like 5 times. They're extremely different characters and it's unacceptable to make that mistake so many times. Also half a dozen times it says passed when it should be past.
I sincerely hope Claire hires an editor for the final book because the concept is so good, but these little errors add up and really dampen the experience.
Another book read in less than a day. These characters are amazingly developed and like i said in book 1s review, it's been a long time since I haven't been able to put a book down.
There is a lot of "what reality csn look like in the future" in this book. The things that are happening are plausible.
Could not put it down. This series is really good. I always wish I had not started reading a series that isn’t finished. Because if it’s good like this one is I can’t wait for the next book. When is the next book coming out?
Where is book 3! What a cliffhanger, intense and jaw dropping. I really love how Georga and Roman have grown into their relationship and are each others champion. #couplegoals Where will the revolution take us next.
I really wanted to like this book, but it was a little slow for me and the attraction between the main characters felt forced to the point that it made me cringe. Sadly I do not think that I will be continuing with this series, but I will definitely check out other books by this author.
Characters are relatable and have flaws they overcome making them feel real. The plot line keeps you engaged and there is just enough twists to keep you guessing. Can't wait for the release of the next book in the series.
I can’t wait to read the next story in this exciting dystopian series! Such a powerful story of escaping oppression and of one woman in particular, Georgia, finding her voice, her love and her power! I’m so glad I found this author and this series!
I did not love the twist. I found this book very cringe. First time I read it I was DNR and I forgot that until I was rereading the series due to getting a notification that the third book was out.
It wasn't bad but the gender based warfare and info withholding is blunt and overdone. The FMC is desperately in love with an MMC she barely knows, she goes along with her own and others ideas half-cocked constantly and the MMC has a saviour complex. He seems so mature compared to her, and inhumanly restrained.
