Grimm County Lawmen #2

Grimm County Grump

Rate this book
She needs a protector, and he needs… a nanny for his goat?

After publicly breaking things off with her boyfriend, Rose struggles to find help when he won’t let go. When his behavior escalates, she flees to her father—and the handsome sheriffs—in Grimm County, North Carolina, hoping one of them can keep her safe.

Nick hates the fame that the Grimm County Lawmen show brings to his life. After a tough childhood, he clings to his privacy just as tightly as he does to the animals living on his farm. But after meeting the town's beautiful new resident, the heat of his attraction starts to melt his defenses.

Rose thinks the intimidating deputy might be the answer to her little stalker problem. That is, until his beastly attitude gets in the way. With danger lurking in the shadows, can Nick open up and become the protector Rose needs before it’s too late?

Grimm County Grump is a modern day take on Beauty and the Beast. If you like grumpy sunshine, slow burn spice, and a fun animal sidekick, then you’ll love this second standalone installment of the Grimm County Lawmen Series. I stumbled upon this book by Cora via TikTok. I was just searching for a way to support Indie authors, and this came across my search.

I didn't make it far into the blurb once I read "A retelling of beauty & the beast." Um, that was all that I needed to be sold! I'm in awe of authors who take on retelling of stories in their own way, and I think Cora did an amazing job here. Besides, it has so much I love in a romance, grumpy sunshine, small-town, and a deputy sheriff to boot!

The spice level is probably a 2. There wasn't a whole lot, but honestly, I was ok with that. It is a retelling of a Disney classic, after all. I was sucked in within the first few pages and my heart broke for Nick, also referred to as Beast, for his childhood up until his grandparents took custody of him. I could relate to his experience in many ways even though I only met my dad once.

Gavin, Rose's ex, well he lost his freaking mind. He thinks he is all that and a bag of chips, so of course it's no wonder he doesn't take her rejection well and thus begins our story.

The reason for the four stars is while I really enjoyed it, towards the end I struggled a tiny bit to continue to be as hooked as I was. All and all though so happy I grabbed this and very much recommend. Especially if you are a Disney lover like I am!

You have Nick who is a typical loner, he has his co-workers/friends but even with them he tends to be a man of few words. What most don't know if there is much more to Nick than meets the eye. Then you have Rose, the total opposite, outgoing and get's along with everyone.

The book has a great transition from the first, connecting the story line and moving to new character development. Cora Day does another good example of a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast with this Big Grump falling for a cheerful female leave, and delusional ex boyfriend. Compared to the first you have a slow burn, grumpy/sunshine, increased thriller factor, and spice. Personally for me I usually prefer books to be 250+ pages because I feel sometimes when they are under that the story can feel rushed and you aren’t able to get as invested with the characters. With that said, I think the book is a good quick read and doesn’t feel rushed at all. It has just enough of everything to make you feel connected to the characters and smooth plot/story line. Overall it checked most of by boxes for what I look for in a Romance read and really look forward to reading book 3.

**Please note Triggers - Stacker/obsessed ex-boyfriend and kidnapping.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST RETELLING✨. This is basically the adult version of the fairytale. I binged this book within 6 hours. The FMC is confident and strong minded. She’s book smart, street smart, and business savvy. While she does start to swoon over the MMC, she still tries to set boundaries. I love that for her. Our grumpy MMC is on par for how Beast acted in the fairytale. Also book savvy and an absolute sweetheart with animals (like theres a tripod chihuahua that he babies. It’s adorable!). I’m not a fan of age gaps, but MMC is written in a way that it doesn’t give me the ick from it. While this fluffy romcom has a HEA, it does still hold a pretty powerful suspense sub-plot which kept me interested the whole way through. A perfect read for anyone in a reading slump, if you ask me!🖤

This story was seriously so freaking cute and while I’m used to having books with an insane amount of spice this one didn’t need all that but there was a little bit in there. I really do think Jasper the baby goat really stole the book though LOL. I swear I can still hear “Maaaaa” hahahaha. The story follows Rose who runs off to Grimm county from her psycho ex boyfriend and has that instant chemistry with Nick or better known as Beast. He’s the chief deputy of Grimm county, oh also one of the stars of the reality show Grimm County Lawmen which he hates LOL. So I mean hot cops, reality tv, and a cute baby goat?! Can we see how I couldn’t not love this book?! I won’t lie though I was a little apprehensive because the book is written as third person point of view but the story itself was so good that I got over it.

Grimm County Grump 💚✨
4⭐️
2🌶️

Tropes:
Small Town
Grumpy x Sunshine
Forced proximity
Possessive MMC

This was a short but spicy read, on kindle Unlimited it sits at 188 pages and it is book 2 in a series of interconnected standalones.

Beast is the grumbly MMC who secretly has a heart of gold and Rose is the FMC who is bubbly but also fights back. These two were perfect together and their lives complimented each other very well.

I really enjoyed reading about these characters and seeing their interactions with the farm animals, those scenes were so cute! This is a fluffy romcom with a good amount of suspense.

Please check TWs as this does have a stalker ex.

This is an ARC review thank you!

Love a good grumpy, protective hero

I liked this second installment in the series even better than the first. It’s funny and full of action and suspense (I can’t give spoilers, but the ex is terrible). I especially loved Nick as the grumpy Beast with a heart of gold and protective streak. Really sweet story, quick ready, with good spice. Also the goats are a great addition to the storyline. Highly recommended as a fairy tale retelling with a modern twist. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

not sure why I saved this one

Boy am I glad I did. I love beauty and the beast retellings. I wasn’t sure if this one was going to be for me, but it seemed more of a quicker read than I’ve been doing so I figured why not. I’m so freaking glad I did. I loved the loose retelling. I loved the reality tv spin. The characters were great, lots of lol moments. Jasper, though, my god, the damn goat stole the show! Now excuse me I need to go back to read the first one in the series!

Nick, a Grimm County Law Enforcement Officer, encounters Rose, a woman who broke it off with her stalker ex. Expect her to turn his world upside down, as she is the sunshine to his thunder.

Loved the plot, it was engaging and kept the reader invested. The characters had great chemistry and there connection was great!.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well done.
Rose is trying to get away from her ex and gets protection from Nick a lawman, with an uncomfortable rep from a TV show.
Sweet, funny, dramatic and romantic.
Rose is running and scared but Nick makes her feel safe. She is somewhat naive about her ex and the danger she is in but Nick soon works it out.
Well written, fantastic characters and a few funny spots along with a warm romance. Great work!!

Rose moved to Grimm County (where her chef father lived) to get away from her creepy ex. I loved how no matter what was thrown her way, she didn’t play the damsel in distress, she stepped up and kept moving forward.

The chemistry between Rose and Beast/Nick was palpable and I loved their flirty banter. 💋

All the characters were all diverse and rich, the plot was strong, and there was a great balance between heat, humor and intrigue!!

Lifetime movie for sure

The timeline was way past accelerated. There was no foundation and no real communication. Every argument they had could have been settled with talking to each other. He needs therapy to learn how to talk to people and she needs it because her sunshine nothing is wrong attitude almost got her killed.

Love, love, loved this book! I'm usually more of a fantasy girlie but I love a good retelling and this is it! Nick has the best daddy energy too! I loved the sweet and romantic moments between the two main characters as well. I can't wait to read what else she writes!

Grimm County Grump

His nickname is Beast for reason, he is big and loud, he commands attention and respect. When she helps her dad at a catering for the station the first impression needs work. When her life is in danger he is the only one that she trusts to keep her safe.

enjoyed this couples dynamic

The beast is the overprotective alpha male, who you have to appreciate and Rose is quirky. Enjoyed this book, sometimes felt like conversations or scenes were skipped over.

good read

Enjoyable read and liked both characters. Loved the farm and goats within the story and only criticism would be the stalking ex and full disclosure of his wicked deeds. Good read,

A curious mix of sweet and coarse. Not to my taste at all- the coarse, that is. A shame, as the the principal characters looked interesting. Abandoned and deleted.

Who doesn't love a hot, sweet grump story? This is easily one of the best grumpy trope romance novels I've ever read. You just can't help but fall in love with Nick aka Beast. The story starts out with Nick as a sweet little boy but he soon experiences tragedy. Fast forward to the present and he's a Grimm County Law Enforcement Officer and full time grump. Or so everyone thinks. But along comes Rose, soap making sunshine, running from her deranged stalker ex, who shakes everything up Nick's life. She takes him from beast to fluffy. Loved this HEA that I just couldn't put down and really it just made me want more. Can't wait for the next installment in this series!!!
