David Means is an American short story writer and novelist based in Nyack, New York. His stories have appeared in many publications, including Esquire, The New Yorker, and Harper's. They are frequently set in the Midwest or the Rust Belt, or along the Hudson River in New York.
This is why I like literary awards (and not just the Booker!) I discovered American author David Means today because he has just won this year’s PEN/Bernard and Ann Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story. And 'The Knocking' with its microscopic view of life in a New York apartment building is near-perfect.
