This is why I like literary awards (and not just the Booker!) I discovered American author David Means today because he has just won this year’s PEN/Bernard and Ann Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story. And 'The Knocking' with its microscopic view of life in a New York apartment building is near-perfect.
