Nancy Grace is a little girl screaming for help and searching for her mother's love. Emotionally, physically and sexually abused by the hands of her own mother, revenge is looking bitter sweet as Nancy faces her own inner demons, one being her best friend.
I couldn't get passed the second chapter. This book was much to gruesome for me and I have read some pretty horrific stuff. I really don't know how this book has such a great rating. With that being said, know feel that the author has great ideas but needs to find better more enjoyable way to write about them. I have read some pretty horrible things, but this was beyond words.. I won't say this book was a waste of time because as a writer I know that this author just like any wanted to make this book memorable and different... but I think they just went overboard. Too much. I couldn't.ride this emotional rollercoaster because I didn't really get to know the characters. They weren't built enough in the story to understand why everyone was so.dark and demented. Will not be reading any more of this person's work. Sorry.
Immediately drawn to the cover of this mis-titled, action packed, super short story that goes from 10-999 within the first few pages. I felt like I was watching a demonic horror movie! Although disturbingly irresistible, the story skipped around and lacked character development. We needed more of Cray Cray Martha's background. What could possibly scar a mother into mistreating her only child so harshly?! Where were the diary entries?! Who, what, when, why???????
Just when the getting gets good, you're on edge about to throw up, the mysterious is building...THE STORY ENDS w/PART 2 COMING SOON! Not only was I disappointed that it was over so abruptly, I felt bombarded & bamboozled by a slue of advertisements!!!
With all said...This author most def has potential and with this freakishly twisted imagination, she can only go up from here!
Nancy Grace was a little girl screaming to be helped and loved. Living with a mother who treated their daughter worse than a stranger would be hard for any child growing up. Nancy's mother used her as her way to means, what mother in their right mind sells their young child to men to teach them a lesson. Nancy grew up emotionally, physically and sexually abused from the help of her own mother. One day during an ordeal Nancy snaps and has to face her inner demon who turns into her best friend and starts to help Nancy with revenge against anyone who may have hurt her. Will Nancy be able to face whats happening or will things get worse before they get better?
This was a really short read. I was looking forward to reading this because it seemed like it was going to be a good read. As you start reading you cant help but to fill bad for Nancy because she is being punished in such ways that no mother should ever do to their own child. It was really crazy and how Nancys mother was one way and then as the story goes on tries to have a major change because of what happened to Nancy. I see where the author was trying to go with the story and they story was a decent one. I just wish that more time would have been spent on editing because it seems like its all over the place. One minute its third person then its Nancy telling the story so the tense doesnt add up. There were also a few places where the story seems to jump around a little and I had to go back and see if i missed something or did it just move on to something else. Overall it was an okay story but if editing would have been fixed im sure would have been much better.
What in the world did I just read? Lol... this was kinda all over the place to me and the time jumped way too much. One chapter Nancy was a little girl and the next she was turning the tables on her mother and doing crazy things. While things such as what took place in this story can actually happen it was just a bit too far fetched to me. With that being said though I definitely still want to see what happens to Nancy in the next installment.
To begin with, this book was confusing; so confusing that I had to stop reading it. For instance one minute you're reading the story the narrator was talking about themself; then as if the narrator was telling the story about the person...I just didn't get it. It's hard to read something when it slips from being the character who was actually talking to someone talking about the character..does that make any sense at all? It's painfully obvious that whoever the copy editor (if they even had one to begin with) was didn't even catch the slip up.
There were other mistakes too...But that didn't concern me as much as what I mentioned above..
I tried my hardest to like this book, I really did...and if it was cleaned up a bit by getting another copy editor to go over it properly, then I think it would be an awesome read and I would read it again...I even purchased the other books in the series, that's how much faith I had in the author and storyline...So please if you are the author reading this review, please take heart, I'm only mentioning these things because the potential is there, it just needs some fine tuning...
I gave this one star for an attempt to bring child abuse to light. However it does a great disservice to those who suffer from schizophrenia. Despite what this short story and other works, schizophrenia doesn't equal murderer. The site bringchangetomind.org has better information.
I feel like this was written for shock value. Not sure it's worth getting even if it's free. Perhaps if the three stories were put together, fleshed out and improved....there is potential. Until then, pass.
Well this is one story I could not put down and it took under a hour to read. I was searching for different kind of story to read and came across this short story so I start reading. Since I am around people that talk like the character in the book it was easy for me to bring the story to life. The story had me wanting to know more so I will be following up on the other series to see what happens to Nancy.
This is my first book by this author and I really don't know what to make of this story. The abuse inflicted on Nancy Grace in the beginning made me angry at her mother. Then the story took a bizarre turn with the introduction of her mental health issues was just too much for such a short story.
I really want to finish the series so I'll try to read the second book.
A collection of horrific abusive scenes with equally abusive & abuse language There is not much in the way of development for the plot or characters, but the shock and disgust factors,t that are referenced in my first sentences, almost overshadow this point. It is a short, short, short, short crude story.
The plot was there. This book had major potential but it lost me with the first and third person narratives abd past and present tenses. I will read the second part because I'd to see the author's growth and what happened to the poor girl. She's 18 now and back home with Martha's trifling behind. Said thing is, people like her truly exist.
I work in child welfare so I know first-hand Nancy's story is very much real as it pertains to being subjected to severe emotional, physical and sexual abuse, and neglect. With that being said, I thought there were times the author wrote about situations that were very unlikely to happen in the criminal justice system and mental health field.
This book is serious. It deals with heart wrenching realties of what some little girls have to grow up with.
I just feel like everything was thrown into this book. Too much at one time. And while I don't deny someone could have gone threw ALL of it, it sort of takes from the reading experience.
I did start book 2 but I am unsure if I will continue.
Very intense storyline; shocking, dramatic, and overwhelming all at the same time. Poor Nancy born to a cruel woman who abuses her child vice caring for her child the way a mother is supposed to.
This short story was great. Now I have to read part 2. I felt so bad for Nancy. I could not image living in pure hell the way she did (physically and mentally).
Writing was vividly graphic in regards to abuse. More backstory was needed to bring the characters to life. Correlation between abuse and mental illness was lacking. It does leave you needing to know what is next for the Grace household. Help ? Happiness ? Horror ? If you are going to read this short story be prepared to dive into the next one!
