स्त्री जीवनाचं विदारक सत्य दाखवणारी ही कादंबरी. पार्वतीबाई ची भूमिका मनाला चटका लावून जाते आणि विचार करायला भाग पाडते, खरचं का स्त्री चं अस्तित्व इतकं शुल्लक आहे?

Inamdar’s prose is historically detailed and well researched as always, but unlike Rau and Mantravegala, the sheer emotional power and pathos that Inamdar invests in his protagonist, Parvatibai, makes Shikasta stand out as one of the finest historical novels. Particular highlights are the entire section involving the ‘pretender’ Sadashivraos, as well as the chapters describing the birth of the future Peshwa. Parvatibai’s poise and standing are consistently held, and everyone in the novel exactly knows their place. However, Inamdar does not sacrifice emotional power for historical detail in this instance, creating a moving masterpiece that deserves worthy translations to gain a wider audience.

ना.सं. च्या पुस्तकातील ऐतिहासिक तपशील आणि बारकाव्यांसहित उभे केलेले व्यक्तीचित्रण, सहज त्या कालखंडात भटकंती घडवून आणतं. सदाशिवरावभाऊ पेशव्यांची ही करारी पत्नी, आपल्या पतीच्या नाहीशा होण्याने तत्कालीन समाजाच्या विरोधात जाऊन सधवा राहण्याचा पण करते. तोतया प्रकरणात तिच्या मनाची घालमेल आणि होरपळ अत्यंत वास्तवदर्शी वाटते.
