This manual condenses and paraphrases selected language in the Oregon Revised Statutes. It also provides safety advice not included in law. This manual is not a proper legal authority to cite and should not be relied upon in a court of law. Traffi c regulations in cities, towns, counties, and federal territories may go beyond state laws, as long as they do not confl ict with state law.

I highly recommend this quiet (and free!) horror novella. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is required reading for anyone who wants to brave the asphalt perils of Oregon.
The anonymous author skillfully lulls the reader to actual sleep with rhythmic and repetitive prose like the following, only to subvert the reader's complacency with foreshadowing of dire events:
"As you approach an intersection with no signs or signals, first look to the left to make sure cross traffic is yielding right of way, then look to the front and to the right. Be prepared to stop. Yield the right of way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching from your right. As you enter the intersection, check again for unusual or unexpected actions."
I found myself nodding my head in all these directions (or nodding off) while my imagination pondered a slow build of all the "unexpected actions" that could happen.
"Turning Error Examples" and "Emergency Vehicles in Roundabouts" made me grip at the manual's recycled paper, a fragile facsimile of my vehicle's steering wheel.
SPOILER ALERT: The conclusion, "Hazardous Driving" filled me with the dread potential of impaired drivers, loss of control at any moment from brake failure or a tire blowout, the life threatening dangers of fog and rain and ice and humans. Leaving the reader in suspense with promise of death is perhaps more effective than an depicting it, since we are left imagining disaster at every lane change and railroad crossing.
I was disappointed in the denouement. Reading about "how to apply" and "proof of legal presence" did much to reduce the lingering tension of the horrifying climax. Fortunately, there was a reference to organ and eye donation. A hint at a sequel, perhaps?
I recommend this book to anyone who delights in the similarly terrifying graphic novelettes contained in airplane seat pockets. I am now filled with a delicious anxiety and borderline panic as I prepare to merge on to Oregon's interstates.
YMMV: consider the tall young teen who failed his driver's test while I was taking mine, shouting to his eye rolling Mom, "THIS IS BULLSHIT"
Dear Reader, like this young gentleman, you too may find that this is indeed bullshit.

This was one of the finest pieces of literature I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The prose is gripping, the themes are complex, the characters are enthralling. Never before have I been so thoroughly captivated by an instruction manual. First, I think it must be noted that this story cannot be fully appreciated without a deep understanding of Judeo-Christian history. This book is seeped in references to every period of the evolution of the Abrahamic religions. A remedial knowledge of Zoroastrianism is also recommended, as allusions to it are numerous, but a lack of knowledge doesn't detract from the reading. The plot is a neverending rollercoaster of emotions that holds the reader with a vice-like grip. The political satire was a bit hamfisted, and saying that anyone found texting and driving deserves the death penalty is a bit extreme for my tastes, but the way in which that message is delivered is stunning. My only complaint is that the book ends too soon. While I do admire books that avoid any filler, there are a lot of unanswered questions left by the text. What happens to the biker with the yellow shirt after he is hit by the car? Is he able to support his family? Ultimately, I think it's fine for a book to trust it's audience and leave them thinking after, but I just wanted more. Read this book. It will change your life.
most breathtaking heartbreaking and beautiful piece of literature i have ever read. this book had me in multiple breakdowns, the intense detail was so immersive. the point of view of this book is so intricate and different than most.
this book did contain mentioning of drugs and alcohol so i recommend 15+
This proved, by far, to be the worst summer reading. In fact, I disliked it so much, it's not even going on my bookshelf. It will live on the ground until I need it again.
I just hope it'll get me my permit... While I understand the importance of knowing the driving laws of Oregon, this was just boring.
as someone who rides a bike around 99% of the time, this was was fascinating information that almost gave me warm fuzzies about how drivers are supposed to act. but then I got back on my bike after passing the drivers test and all was chaos again. I am only counting this as a book because it sucked 5 hours away from the books I really want to read.
This book was painful to read, but it is truest necessary if you want to pass your test. I would say don’t read it unless that is what you’re going for.
This book is fine if you want to eventually crash and burn. I read this and it told me to drive on the right. I know what I'm doing, I've had my license in England for 10 years now and you're supposed to drive on the LEFT. I can't help but think about how many lives this book has cost, my guess is near the 100 mark. This book should be banned in schools and libraries for public safety. That said, however, it was a very interesting read and I couldn't put it down once I picked it up, mostly because it was covered in glue. STILL TO THIS DAY, THE BOOK IS STUCK ON MY HANDS! At least I know if I ever want to set myself on fire I'll have some extra fuel to help the fire burn... Stay safe kids and drive on the left side of the road.
First I thought that the Oregon driver manual would be boring to read through but now i know it is very boring and hard to read because of the boring monotone of of the author. I believe this may very well be the most boring annoying thing to read ever. The thing about this book is that it is mandatory to read for everyone in Oregon at the very least and is unbearable. I believe this book has more commonalities with the fitness gram pacer test than a novel of any sort the only reason i am reading it is because i don't know how to drive.
I've read the most recent one which is the 2018-19 and it has less pages and its a great resource to study if you guys want to get your permit or license. This book has help me pass my test and it has some good questions in it. I would recommend this book to people to who want to get their license or permit. In my opinion the author did great. I think people would do great if they study well.
