If you go looking for a monster, don’t be surprised if you find one.

With white-collar crimes dominating Agent Abby Kane’s work schedule, chasing deranged killers is a thing of the past, until the body of a dead DEA agent pops up in Bogotá.

Ordered to Colombia for answers, Abby’s investigation takes her deep into the Amazon jungle where she discovers evidence of strange experiments at a rundown lab. When she later crosses paths with one of the scientists involved, she learns that a new drug has been invented, and its danger isn’t the addictive high but the terrifying side effects.

Abby believes the cartels are behind the drug, but the locals think it’s one man. They call him El Monstruo.

Agent Abby Kane tackles another bizarre case in this gripping international thriller.

Nice, fast-paced thriller. I enjoyed it more than the first book in the Abby Kane series. Likable heroine who is related and tough. There was a bit more romance in this one than I usually am a fan of but with the storyline it melded well. I will definitely continue the series.

Abby Kane, FBI agent and former homicide detective, is dispatched to Colombia, South America to investigate the brutal murder of a DEA agent.

And that’s where it falls apart. Abby does not inspire confidence, and without believing in Abby the story doesn’t work. Since she is not familiar with Colombia or the drug cartels, it never makes sense to me that she is the agent sent to Colombia. Worse, when she arrives in Colombia she demonstrates poor professional judgment on a number of fronts.

I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Favorite conversation: “When you coming home, Mommy?” “Another day or so.” “How long is dayorso?” Thank you to Nebula of Books and Ty Hutchinson for this free ecopy.
“Tenderloin” (Abby Kane #2) by Tyson Hutchinson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: Thriller. Location: Mitú and Bogota, Columbia and San Francisco, California, USA. Time: Late Spring/Summer, Present.

THE SERIES: Abby Kane (Chinese/Irish ethnicity) spent her early detective career in Hong Kong, China. After husband Peng Yee’s mysterious death (6 months after they wed), Abby moves her stepchildren Ryan (8) and Lucy (5) and mother-in-law Po Po to San Francisco, California. More time for hands-on parenting (Operation Better Mother). What she gets instead is a job with the FBI solving their most baffling cases.

THIS BOOK: When dead bodies of a DEA agent and some locals are found in Mitú, Abby flies to Columbia to work with DEA Special Agent Dominic Cabrera. Her investigation takes her into the Amazon where she discovers a strange jungle lab. One of the lab scientists tells her of a new drug with terrifying side effects. The locals say a man called El Monstruo is in charge. And she’s hearing rumors about muertos vivientes (living dead).

Author Hutchinson has written a thriller with a unique lead character. He narrates most of it from Abby’s point of view-she’s seen a lot of horrific cases in her short career. Hutchinson alternates Abby’s FBI/DEA plot line with the drug experiment plot line, which adds tension because we know more about what’s coming than the agents. I really thought I figured it out, but I missed an important twist! Fast-paced and action-filled like Patterson and Baldacci. And yes, male-written female characters like theirs. (So of course Abby falls into bed with a male colleague-just take her gullible fantasies with a grain of salt.) But the plot will keep your interest, I can’t wait to read #3, and it’s 5 stars from me🌵📚💁🏼‍♀️

I enjoyed this book, but frustrated as it didn’t wrap up the ending and I had read the 3rd book to the series first it was labeled Russian Hill Book #1 and I liked it and saw it was Abby Kane #3. So we don’t know if the bad guy comes back or if Abby gets him.

How did this book find me? I’ve been reading the series.

so the 1st book was GOOD, this book... ehhhhh. You can tell a dude is writing from a woman's pov and she cant work with any good looking man without her vagina taking over and having boring sex with him. It was easy to "guess" who El Monstrou was.

Lost for words with this one. I thought the first book in the series was amazing, I think this one has actually topped it despite them being both being rated a lovely 5 star. This book covered a rather interesting concept, a one that I have never seen done before. But, we have two scientists who are developing a drug to help make people better - I guess? They begin testing it on chimps but then suddenly change their mind and test it on a human, however this ended up just giving them some weirdly stupid super human strength.
Abby ends working with another FBI Agent named Cabrera and gets very close to him, however, towards the end of the book it's revealed that he maybe isn't as innocent as she first believes or knows.
Abby continues to be an outstanding FBI agent, giving her all and wanting to solve the cases. Even when thrown into a difficult situation like this, she continues to give her all.

I've read another Abby Kane Thriller, and my only complaint about her character is she jumps in bed with men too quickly. Ok, maybe I'm old fashioned, but that's how I feel.
When a DEA agent turns up dead in Columbia (the country) FBI is asked for help investigating the horrible was he was beaten to death. Abby Kane is sent and meets a USA DEA agent who grew up in Columbia, who will be her "partner" and help her around the foreign country.
The investigation leads them into the jungle and out and back to the US as bodies pile up, all beaten to a pulp.
Abby is very likable, as is the DEA agent. Sometimes the story seemed a bit implausable, but was still enjoyable. And the ending is..... well you will have to see for yourself.

This was yet another great read from Ty Hutchinson. It was a really interesting look at drugs and their effects in the hands of scientists! I would love to give this five stars but I do occasionally find Abby's character a little grating and this was one such time. She comes across as extremely conceited and arrogant and deluded that every male in a 100 mile radius of her can't resist her charms and it's a little off putting. I have read a lot of the Abby Kane series and not in order which is what I'm trying to do, but it seems she does calm down a bit later on.

THE WHOLE TIME I WAS READING TWO OLD MOVIES KEPT COMING ACROSS MY MIND "THE LOST SOULS" AND "ISLAND OF D. MOUREAU", BOTH HORROR MOVIES. THE DIFFERENCE THIS STORY HAD A REVERSE OF WHAT DR MOUREAU WAS DOING ON HIS ISLAND. I LIKED ABBY, I FELT FOR HER TRYING TO BALANCE HER LIFE WANTING TO BE A GOOD MOTHER AND A TOP FBI AGENT AT THE SAME TIME. SHE WANTS AND NEEDS BOTH. I THINK SHE BALANCES PRETTY WELL EVEN THOUGH I DON'T THINK SHE'D AGREE. I WAS HAPPY I WAS RIGHT ON THE WHOLE SITUATION THAT WAS GOING ON. ;D

I found this story a bit convoluted at first until it all came together quite late into the book. A dead DEA agent and zombies and a secret lab all come together for Abby in Columbia. There are parts of the story that I don’t understand why they are included…like the jungle ceremony and the visit to Ryan’s camp…but whatever pads the pages I guess. I had the bad guy picked out right away so there was no surprise at the end at all. It was an okay book. Not one that is memorable but one that passes time.

Agent Abby Kane is sent to Columbia where she meets DEA agent Cabrera. Into the jungle where they seek the men responsible for the walking dead. Murder and mayhem ensue. Follow the agents back to San Fransisco and read the story as it unfolds. From start to finish you are wrapped in the arms of the government vs madmen. This is not for the faint of heart. There are vivid descriptions of torture.
I received this as a free book. The review is my honest opinion. Highly recommended

The second installment the Abby Kane FBI series saw Abby investigating murders in Columbia that the locals had assigned to zombie-like creatures. One of the victims was a DEA agent, which is why the FBI are called in.

Abby works with DEA agent Cabrera, visiting an Amazonian tribe to hear a first-hand account of a man beaten to death by a previously disabled villager. There's also evidence of a smashed science lab, leading them to investigate scientists working on a new drug.

After reading a review on the first book of this series, I paid more attention to how Hutchinson writes Kane in tenderloin. Such a perspective from a man. That is not to say how captivating I found the story! The plot twists!! & How everything is it's own storyline but all comes together at the end. I just wish that Kane would have caught him in the end instead of him escaping. Hopefully the story continues in the next book.

I like Hutchinson style. A whole story with a lot of eastern eggs hidden around letting you know that there is a special surprise coming. Then he gives you and end to the investigation with the guilty party known and then, just like that, the special surprise jump and you did not know and you do not know how you could have missed something so obvious. Kane is also a very special character, but I really do not like that she has a tendency to get romantic with male partners. She could be the perfect, strong, lead female if it wasn't for that little detail.

Holy Around the Mountain Batman !

I want to thank Ty Hutchinson for a song that has been rattling around in my mind for a week, and for another great Abby Kane book. His characters are vivid and gritty, with the ability to see the simple things in life. Keep writing Mr Hutchinson, and please don't put any more songs in your books for Lucy to sing.

Deceiving to the end.

San Francisco to the Columbian jungle to investigate the death of a DEA agent. She was only going to be gone a couple days to gather facts. Several weeks later she comes home with a murder witness and a "mad" scientist. Did she solve the case or bring the murderer home with her.

I happened to read Russian Hill (which comes after this) first. I fell in love with Abby Kane in it. However, in Tenderloin, I couldn't relate to her most of the time. She didn't seem too professional in this one. It's quite intense, there is a lot of gore as well. It's the twist at the end which was absolutely unexpected that helped this book to earn 4 stars....

Another great read by Ty Hutchinson

How Abby and her family are so resilient I'll never know! This is fifth Abby Kane story I've read and they just keep getting better! Even though I usually read a series in order, I haven't with these and it still works for me. Must reads... ☺

I quite liked Abby in the previous book, but wasn’t that enamoured with the story or the author’s style of writing. I gave the series another chance, but about a third of the way into the book I really wasn’t enjoying the story.

Abby Kane is sent to Columbia to help the DEA investigate the killing of a fellow agent. Abby's time there is complicated by the discovery of scientists who are experimenting with the human gnome. Full of twists and turns, this book will keep you guessing.

Sorry, if for some reason I do not like the main protagonist, as is the case here with Abby who I find self-righteous and whiny, then I just cannot like the whole book.
The plot is good, the storytelling as such as well, but the main character....

I really liked this one except for, of course, the really bad guy in it. I know there are probably people who are that sadistic in the world, but thankfully, I've never encountered any and hope to never do so.
