Originality: Again, I have to say that this series is very original. I am loving seeing the human side of angels. They aren’t so perfect as they’re made out to be, and they are as vulnerable as humans in these books. I really like that. It’s nice to somewhat relate to a holy being. ;) Characters: In The Fallout, you get more information about many of the characters, and in these cases, it makes you love them even more. There was a character in the first book that I didn’t really like a certain character and now I sort of, kind of, like them a little bit. They aren’t exactly nice but you can see why they act that way. I’m still a fan of Emmy, the main character. She’s just so…normal. Okay, well, except for the fact that she’s in love with an angel and plays a crucial part in stopping the end of the world. If this was a book about, you know, human problems, I’m sure I would relate to her perfectly. She’s not extraordinary, a complete book worm, falls for the guy she can’t have. All these make her so lovable. Content: I never really like “end of the world” stuff. But in this book? I am so hooked. It seems as if Good and Evil are playing a game of hide and seek- looking for clues to prevent humanity from being destroyed. It’s a unique perspective on a clichéd idea. Setting: Basically, The Fallout is still set in present day New York, just like its prequel, The Girl. However, again like the prequel, the characters travel to other parts of the world. I personally don’t get a feel for the location as a part of the world, but if they are in a building or small area, I can picture it just as if I were there. Overall enjoyment: This is a book that will leave your jaw dropped. I’m eagerly awaiting book 3 and am absolutely looking forward to learning more about some of my favorite characters. *cough* the twins *cough*. I want to know more about their lives, before and during the mission to save the world. Lola St. Vil has such an amazing talent that needs to be noticed!
When I order a book for my Kindle I expect some editing errors. However, this had way too many issues. Multiple times entire words were left out or repeated. Past tense and current tense would be used at the same time and many other errors. I would have been upset with the amount of errors had this book been free. I'm very disappointed. The story line and characters are very good but it was very difficult to take the story seriously. I feel sad that i won't find out what happens next but there is no way I'm spending more money.
I'll admit I was a little hesitant when I saw the narrator this time around. I'm not sure why. I liked Ameana as much as I liked all the other characters, so why not look forward to her point of view? But that might be the reason I didn't completely love it as much as I did the first.
That's usually a pattern for me. I'll love the first, kind of lose interest in the second but get it all back by the third. So really we can only go up from here. And also I'm not one for pining, wondering what went wrong. Well reading about it anyway, I'm probably team captain when it comes to the latter. I meant that for the real world, but I have to admit after reading The Girl a few weeks ago, I spent a week pining over the death of a character. I reminded myself that if I cried about things I would have. It really stuck with me, the whole book not, you know, just the death... that was a good week in books for me.
So many sequels just expect you to know what happened, but this one gives so much info and details it was like rereading the first. And I've been asked to review a lot of sequels without any knowledge of the first recently so trust me I know. Like I mentioned in my previous review it flows so perfectly, it starts and doesn't stop until the end.
And that end! I don't know how much of a spoiler this is seeing as how nowadays most sequels end in cliffhangers and the first also had somewhat of a sudden ending, but this one does too. I know a lot of readers don't like that, especially when we have to wait so long for the next book, but I love endings like that. If anything, to me, that makes the book.
The writing is still amazing, especially the way it changes in point of view I loved getting in Ameana's head and knowing what she was feeling. I know that's probably a total contradiction to what I said before but it's true. I loved seeing the story from a different perspective, it was like a whole new story that just added so much more to it over all.
This series has quickly become a new favorite, I need to go encourage people to read it so I'll have someone to discuss it with.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked the first book in this series. I was excited to see where the story was going to go. I think this had a very exciting storyline. The storyline and characters were what I liked best about the first book. I feel like this was a little darker the first. I ended up not liking the characters as much because they were so dark. With that being said, I didn't enjoy this as much as the first. It was still a great read and a awesome sequel.
This was from both Emmy and Ameana's point of view. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoying reading from Ameana's perspective. I ended up enjoying it. She had a very different story than Emmy. She also had a different outlook on things. I think she was really trying to find herself. She made some pretty stupid moves. But she did grow a little and I have a feeling she is going to keep growing. As for Emmy, I still really liked her. She had some moments where she annoyed me. I feel like she could be stronger. She needs to stop second guessing herself and stick to what she believes in. The hostility between Emmy and the other Guardians really annoyed me. It just felt like it wasn't needed.
I liked how adventurous the plot was. It was pretty fast paced. There was always something happening to different characters. This left me wondering where the story was going to go which made me not want to put it down. I wonder what's going to happen to who next. Overall I think this was a great sequel. I'm glad I got the chance to read it. I'm excited to see where the series is going to go. I highly recommend if you enjoy angels and lots of action.
To write this review is a little difficult for me. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about his book. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t love it. It didn’t do much at all for me. Ameana can’t get over the breakup, her repetitiveness got very very irritating. I do find the unusual relationship she has dragged herself into quite intriguing. I hope the author involves Rage more and we get to know him more. I’d love to see Rage turn angel considering the circumstances the Guardians find themselves with at the end of the story. This book very much focuses on Ameana. Marcus and Emmy’s relationship is at a standstill….mainly because Miss Emmy can’t do anything anyways. Other than Mimi, there is absolutely no character development between the other Guardians. Oh well, woohoo we find out who else is in love with Mimi. It took me much longer to get through this book than it did the first book. I was much slower paced. At moments I left the book from boredom and eventually completely forgot about the book. It’s short, once I picked it up again it didn’t me long to get to the end. I think my main problem with this book is that it isn’t very “memorable”. Even though the book should still be fresh in my mind it feels like it was ages ago that I read it and can’t remember small details. As it is my norm, I will continue with the series. Partially because I hate cliffhangers! And I do see lots of potential in these books. I’ve grown a little attached to the characters. *I can’t believe what happens to Rio!!!...I’m heartbroken* I hope the next book picks up and surprises me by being better than this one.
Book two of the Guardians. The continuing story of Emmy, Marcus and the rest of the guardians team. Told mostly from the point of view of Ameana, Marcus' second in command and his ex-love. We follow her as she tries to deal with the loss of love, mostly by having secret "dates" with Rage, an Akon aka a demon. Ameana tries to forget the love she has lost by also trying to focus on the Guardian's mission to save humanity and her inner fight to not kill the human (Emmy) who, in Ameana's eyes, stole her love Marcus. We learn Marcus is faced with the impossible decision of who will be destroyed by the Council for saving human lives from Death. The Fallout is full of battles between good and evil, many of which are focused on saving Emmy's life. When Marcus makes his decision about which of his team members will be destroyed, it is declined by the Council. The Council makes their own decision which leave us with a huge cliffhanger. The Council's decision causes one of the Guardians to turn dark. I cannot wait to start book three
I would probably give this 3.5 stars. I'm enjoying this series, there are just somethings that bug me about it. It's hard to pinpoint everything, but the biggest things are the many typos and editting errors. This reads as a rough draft ... it would have been nice to read this more cleaned up. Also, there are times when I feel like the author takes the easy way out and simply tells us what's going on rather than shows us. Sometimes it almost made the story feel unrealistic. I'm also having a hard time getting completely behind Emmy and Marcus's love story. I don't feel like we're ever really shown why they fall for each other. It just doesn't feel real to me.
Anyways, I sound like I'm being hard on this series, but I really am enjoying it a lot! It's a pretty light and easy read! :)
Such a great sequel!! I had just finished reading the first book when this was released a few days later. I could not put this book down. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. Not even at the end. Which is a cliff hanger that leaves you wishing the book just continued on forever. I can't wait for the next installment to come out in September. What am I going to do with myself til then? Probably reread these books a couple times. DEFINITELY A MUST HAVE!!!!
This was a fantastic book!!! I couldn't put it down!!!!! And I was not expecting that ending... I mean WOW!!!! I was really surprised how much I liked reading about Ameana and seeing everything through her POV!!!! Great Great book!!!!! Thank you Lola for this amazing book, no one could have done what you have!!!!!
As good as the first one is, this one is better. The characters contuine to grow and develop as well as the story line. I cant wait to read book 3 and see where Lola takes us.
Horrific plot later on. This story is just the beginning of a continuous repeat.
I wonder does anyone notice how items are constantly added? Oh, look, some super bad guys, they're the worst things ever- OH WAIT, there's THESE GUYS, the worst in the universe! NO WAIT NOW THERE ARE THE SUPER TERRIBLE BAD GUYS who are going to end the universe! Items and places are also added one after the other. The author clearly has no idea what they're doing and is making it up as they go along. What does this mean? Zero foreshadow. You can't guess the endings because you have no idea what's going to happen next, not because of incredible plot- but none. Something will happen because the author invented it, because this is a fantasy book. (Which, obviously, does make sense; had the author not been adding every few chapters)
The feelings and emotions and mindsets of the characters are very often unrealistic and uncharacteristic. The inconstancy occurs through the book and the series. Earlier, Amena will be pissed at Emmy. She'll forget about it for two chapters so they can joke with each other- then something happens and then she's back to hating Emmy.
On top of that, Marcus and Emmey's relationship make no sense. There's no chemistry, no complementing personalities, there's just utter chaos, which somehow, all the characters treat as 'love'. Guardians uses the Romeo and Juliet trope terribly.
After much debate and convinced myself to give book two a chance because book one was the authors debut novel. Sadly I am out $5 that I can't get back.
There was no development in the author's writing ability or the flaws in the characters or story. Is was even more of a disappointment than book one. the edits and structure were actually more choppy and unprofessional in this one.
And someone please tell me why did we need a 40 page recap of book one? I literally skipped the first 40 pages by skimming through them because i reiterated everything that happened in book one from beginning to end. it was like a never ending previously in Guardians. I actually said finally when I found where it ended so that i could move on with the story and not still be stuck rereading book one.
I will not be paying for the rest of the series to continue with it. Maybe if the books were cheaper I'd consider it only because the concept of the plot and the creativity is captivating but the quality of the product is not worth $6 for an ebook!
I love seeing the human side of angels. They aren't as perfect as they're made out to be, and they are as vulnerable and chaotic as humans in this book.
You get more information about the characters in this book than in book one, and in some cases it makes you love them a bit more. There were characters in the first book that pretty much annoyed me but now I sort of, kind of like them.
And I LOVE the fact that the main character does not cry as much in this book as in book one. She stood up for herself against evil in such a badass way.
I loved the first book, and this one was okay too, but I planned on liking it way more than I did. That being said, the story line is original, which is nice, but evidently there's like 15 books in the series, so I can't see myself buying all of them.
Also what a refreshing feeling to read a book that has the same plot still running through the second book and not having my brain have to learn a crap ton of new information each time!
Okay, this review is not just for this particular book (I'm putting the same version on each book) but for every single hair pulling book in the series. I have rated the books mostly 4's and I'll stand by that because the story, had it been about something like super heroes, rather than "angels/demons" it would have been great. But...they're not. They're about...um...Lola St. Vil's warped idea of angels. Here are my MAIN issues.
1: She is obviously either an Atheist or not of a Christian religion because she actually has it that when people die, they become Angels. NOPE, wrong. Angels were created by God to be pristinely good, he created them all Male, and it is mentioned in the Bible that people do not go to Heaven or Hell immediately. They're lying in wait (something like asleep) until the day of Judgement. At that point they will either enter Heaven or Hell, but NOT...NOT NOT NOT as an Angel or Demon.
2: Even if people could become Angels, she has what she calls Originals, created by God. However they are as immature as 14 year old children. My case in point would be Raphael fawning over Miku/Redd like he was a teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert. This was disgusting. Angels would be NOTHING but professional or they would be kicked out of Heaven. Which brings me to the next issue:
3: Angel prison? Angels on drugs? Angels having Sex? She's missing a MAJOR issue here. Again, Angels are pristinely good. There is an Angel prison, it's called Hell, and only one angel ever went there. Satan himself when he fell. Pristinely good beings would never even be tempted nor affected by Drugs. And God created all Angels, there is no need for them to procreate, and being that he created all Angels Male...it would be kinda hard to do that even if they could. COME ON!! I was ready to claw out my brain cells that had been "fortunate" to survive reading these books up to this point!!
4: What was with renaming everything/one? What in the Hell is Difi? Because it's definitely not Hell...Who is Omnis. God is God, he goes by different names depending on who is talking about him, but trust me, Omnis is NOT one of them. And why is he so powerless/nonchalant in these books? If you're gonna change the name of everything and everyone, why keep the Original's names? Gabriel, Raphael, why not call them Kanye and Fred?
She should have taken the whole "religious" aspect (and I use that word LIGHTLY) out, and instead created the Guardians to be some sort of Super Hero group. Maybe they were given special powers after they died by a race of aliens, or something similar and they were given the task to save the world from another dark race of aliens intending on ruling earth. THAT would have made every issue I had with the book be a NON ISSUE!!
But instead, Lola St. Vil had to make a complete MOCKERY of Christianity. Very disappointed...very disappointed!!
Boom! Hatred broke the top guardian angels' team! I love this book just like the first one! I still can't believe that I'm reading books about angels! I used to hate to read that kind of books, but this series got me to read and enjoyed most of the story. Still there are some things I still wished some parts of the book to change. I love the cute couple still! I couldn't leave the book down, so I finished it in one day and half. I will still give it 4 stars.
Still working on the mission with the human girl named Emmy. After Marcus starts to date with Emmy, the team becomes apart. Rio made a mistake on saving the group of people who are supposed to die. Angels should not save humans from their death. After Rio made that mistake, the council made the Guardian leader, Marcus to decide who should die for that mistake. He was shocked and didn't want to choose anyone from his loyal team. During the mission Ameana dates with Rage who was a demon to get over her ex, Marcus. Towards to the end, Ameana shoots fire at the Hun to save Marcus. Angels aren't supposed to shoot fire...only demons can. That got the team to think what happened to Ameana. She kept 2 secrets that almost killed the team and Emmy. Emmy caught a virus in her body from a maker. This virus isn't not for humans. It carves a symbol to show what the maker wants. If Emmy agrees to what the symbol says then she is free from death. The symbol showed that she needs to forget the memories about being in love with Marcus, but she'll still remember everything else.
There were some parts I didn't really like about the 2nd book. I wished Ameana didn't do everything stupid like dating with a demon which will cause her to become a dark angel. Towards to the end the coucil picked the person to die for the mistake which that was someone I couldn't believe would pay for that mistake. Another thing I didn't like is that Emmy got hurt with the virus and forced to make a brutal decision. The maker of the virus shocked me! I didn't think that person was the maker! Ameana knew who that was the whole time which I wished that she said something earlier. I love how close Emmy and Marcus are close. I liked the part that the team save each other in several wars with the demons and the Hun. Another thing I liked about this book is how the team cared about Emmy and each other.
If you want to know what happens to the team at the end of book or what decision Emmy made from the unhuman virus, read the 1st book and this book! I'm currently reading the 3rd book to see if the mission gets done! Read this book if you like romance and paranormal type of books. I love these 2 books and looking forward to finish the 3rd book! Hope you get to read this series! Thank you, Lola again for writing this book in this series for the readers to read and enjoy!
I'm just so mad about everything in this book. at the end of the last book we're left with Rio having made a huge mistake and well the book is called The Fallout so we know there are consequences. almost everything in this book is predictable and preventable If they'd stop being love sick for just a moment and remember that they're trying to save humanity! get over yourselves, you selfish little idiots.
SPOILERS
I don't know about anyone else but I knew the second the caller talked about ending Memmy (Marcus/Emmy) that it was Julian, I'm sorry that suspense lacked... well, suspense. It was too obvious. If they had figured this crap out to begin with they would have had more time. To be honest I kinda hoped Emmy would choose to forget Marcus but whatever. I know I'm about to get ahead of myself here but I was already mad that Reese died and now Rio is dead? I bet Jay is next and we'll have the ridiculous love triangle try to save the world. Can anyone spell doomed?
Also, totally saw this evil crap coming with Miku, Rio was the good one. I mean her nickname is Pretty to shorten Pretty Scary (or something ) right? that's been shoved in our faces from the get-go. what's this "team" saving humanity? there's only 3 left and they have the stupid human who's going to get them all killed. soon it'll be just her. If this dumb angels had just stash her somewhere from the beginning they'd all be Paras by now. I get this would totally make this a one book deal but it's the truth. there should be more outside interference but everytime we turn the page there's nothing but Emmy screwing things up, she's the bad guy in this books she just doesn't know it. Anyway, end rant.
I'm still going to read the next one but I hope it gets better. I still gave it 3 starts because this one is still better than the first one so we're making progress here.
