"The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" (1926): This novel is often considered one of Christie's greatest masterpieces. It introduces another iconic detective, the village doctor and amateur sleuth, Dr. Sheppard. When a wealthy widower named Roger Ackroyd is found dead, Dr. Sheppard becomes embroiled in the investigation. The novel is renowned for its audacious twist ending, which shocked readers and cemented Christie's reputation as a master of deception.
Wow. Did not see that coming. Always love it when I’m completely surprised by the culprit! Liked having the doctor as a substitute of sorts for Hastings. Enjoyable read!
An Agatha Christie masterpiece! Jackie lent me this book but wouldn’t tell me anything about it. The first unusual thing I noticed was it was written in the first person. The narrator was a Dr in the Village where Hercule was, I think, semi-retired. It was a great story with lots of characters but easy to follow. The ending was a real surprise! No one should share it. It’s worth a read!!
DO NOT READ THE FOREWORD! It doesn’t explicitly spoil but I figured out the killer within the first forty pages because of a pretty substantial hint in the foreword - pretty disappointing. That said, amazing book - my favorite of hers so far.
Amazing! Didn’t see it coming, might read again see if I can spot the clues! I’ve made it a ‘thing’ to ready some classics and older books and I am so glad I read this one.
