Напрягает то, как героиня продолжает про себя обзывать всех мужских персонажей. Все-то у нее придурки, подонки и прочее. И как при таком раскладе можно заставить кого-то из них себя полюбить? В середине стало очень странно - ведь если финал квеста это момент совершеннолетия, то о чем тогда будут оставшиеся две книги?
Каллисто нравится из всех мужчин мне больше всего. Иклис жутко скользкий тип, братья какие-то невнятные, маркиз вообще не тянет на любовный интерес. С принцем, мне кажется, у них много обшего - ведь оба страдают от своей "репутации".
Герцог тоже понравился. Он прям в этой части раскрылся с лучшей стороны. А вот Ивонна тоже мутная. Кто она на самом деле и чего хочет пока не понятно.
Интересно, что количество денег на счету "Пенелоппу" не удивило сосвсем. То есть в один момент 12 миллионов превратились в 999+, но прям никакой реакции на это не последовало. Возможно, потому что голова была занята не тем.
Ивонна же ведет себя как актриса погорелого театра. Впрочем, все они страдают некой театральностью. Это закон жанра или относится только к этой истории? Интересно. Ясно, что все пошло под откос и дальше история будет развиваться совсем не по сценарию. Но надеюсь, героиня изменит свое отношение к происходещему с этого ее "сбежать любой ценой" и "ну их всех нафиг, все равно все не по-настоящему.

THIS BOOK!!! She gave me everything I've wanted for a LONG TIME. I'm literally lying in bed with tears in my eyes, because well, this is it... what I so desperately wanted.

this book gave me everything: a smart and cunning main character, a cynical but loving blonde prince and their slow immersion in feelings. like?!...he is literally Aaron Warner in the fantasy world. I haven't had so many quotes highlighted since shatter me. and with each of his phrases and actions, I JUST SCREAMED INTO THE PILLOW. because yes. YES…

what kind of man are you, callisto regulus?! this whole arch with penelope and the villainess is actually so sad, I literally wanted to cry at the end of injustice, well, she doesn't deserve all this. the worst thing is that she was brought to all this, but fortunately she will return to callisto, her loverboy, who will appreciate and love his future empress. I'm going to cry and rock volume 4, I'm afraid I won't survive it… (rest in peace, hope) haha

Esse foi melhor que os outros dois, fiquei dando risadinha em diversos momentos enquanto lia em lugares aleatórios. Cheguei a dar uma ou duas choradinhas também, o que é meio surpreendente.
Infelizmente eu ainda gosto do Eckles como personagem, principalmente porque ele é um maluco miserável... Mas eu consigo entender os motivos pra ele ter ficado tão ruim, um deles sendo o relacionamento dele com a Penélope (dá pra ver as escolhas erradas que ela faz e as consequências ao longo dos dois primeiros livros) e a culpa inegável daquela cultista cabeçuda desgraçada.
Callisto já errou mas as outras vezes que errou foi tentando acertar. Ele me trás uma melancolia difícil de definir, só percebendo que o amor que sente pela Penélope vai consumir ele quando fica tarde demais; provavelmente o slow burn é por culpa do sistema, inclusive (não tô reclamando).
Os outros dois livros ainda não chegaram e eu inalei esse em menos de uma semana, então vou ter que sofrer em silêncio por uma semana até a entrega dos livros. Que vida miserável.

BEWARE of SPOILER

Cha Siyeon was brought home by her father to a household filled with cold, indifferent half-brothers. Despite her late mother having nothing to do with the death of their mother (at least according to the MTL), they still held her responsible. Even the household staff treated her like trash, viewing both Siyeon and her mom as homewreckers. College was her ticket out—finally free, she moved out and juggled three part-time jobs while studying. Somewhere in between, she still found time to play an otome game.

The game had two modes:

Normal mode followed the heroine, Yvonne.

Hard mode followed the villainess, Penelope.

In normal mode, Yvonne began with a 30% favorability rating from each of the five male leads:

In hard mode, as Penelope, the favorability was either zero or negative. And the plot? Straight out of the "villainess gets doomed" playbook:

After dying countless times in hard mode, Cha Siyeon rage-quits the game… only to wake up inside it—as Penelope. Now, she must reach 100% favorability with one male lead and receive a love confession before the coming-of-age ceremony to return home.

The novel spans five volumes with:

231 main chapters

40 side stories

8 special chapters

The translation? Pretty much raw MTL—definitely a "hard mode" read in more ways than one. But it was popular enough to get a manhwa adaptation.

My thoughts:
I gave this 4 stars, but only because of the side stories. Why? Because it felt like the author suddenly realized, “Oops, I forgot to wrap things up properly.” So we get 40 more chapters to finally give Penelope her closure.

Then—surprise!—the author again realizes Cha Siyeon didn’t get hers. Cue another 8 special chapters to fix that.

It honestly felt like James Cameron waking up one morning and deciding, “You know what? Jack Dawson survived the Titanic. Let’s give him a new arc where he moves on because Rose already got her happy ending.” And then writing yet another side story where we watch Rose living her best life with her family, just so she can finally let go of the past.

So, was it a tragedy? Not really. The “tragedy” tag is basically false advertising at this point.

This volume covers the events of the "Missing Children" incident and up to Hard Mode's end.

What a tense volume, whew. A lot comes to a head in this volume, and the climax is in sight. We start with Penny going on a "date" with Winter that ends somewhat badly, what with her learning the man was just testing her, Laon getting kidnapped, and her finding out something chilling and previously unknown to her about the heroine--she just might be a demon?? All this sucks, of course, but we do get to see Callisto and Penny interact and power-couple their way through a dungeon-like place, so I consider this a win. Callisto really is out here, proving to everyone that he is the superior love interest. He never once doubted Penny or was prejudiced against her. He looks at her, and he sees... her. And he likes what he sees very much! Their banter and relationship are just 10/10.

But Penny can't let herself be swept away by the dashing prince, even if he does propose to her, even if she does catch feelings, because she's got to beat the game. And for that, she bets everything on Eckles--god knows why--as she races against time to get a love interest to 100%. Time is of the essence, but it should be possible. Excpet. Eckles has always been extremely sus to anyone with eyes, and now Penny's eyes are opened as he betrays her, bringing the real daughter to the mansion. The potentially an evil demon real heroine, at that. It doesn't take long for Penny to realize the sweet and kind heroine of normal mode is actually a demonic creature that can brainwash the inhabitants of the mansion, and the sense of hopelessness she reaches makes her almost apathetic to everything. Not that it matters. It's almost a relief to her that she finally has a good cause to let Eckles go.

Nothing proves Penny has never really let herself think of the Eckharts as a family the way she insists on not doing anything against the heroine. Certain that regardless of what she is, the game will continue as normal, she attempts to stay out of her way. She just wants OUT. Which also means trying to postpone the coming of age ceremony, the opening of "normal mode." She even makes plans to escape in more... permanent ways and says goodbye to her existing connections. All in time for hard mode to finally end.

Honestly, the last several chapters of this volume were just... painful.

Stand out character of this volume? Callisto, as always.
Worst character of this volume: Derrick, AS ALWAYS. Outdos the creepy heroine by a landslide.
Favorite non-love interest character? The duke. Look, he did bad before, but he's actively trying. Not always well, but always trying. Emily and Laon are honorary mentions.
Favorite brother: Reynold. Man's a tsundere, but he's kind of cute. He has the emotional intelligence of a brick, but a cute brick.

Oh, how I wanted to finish this whole novel this year but unfortunately, I'm still somewhere in the middle of the fourth volume, I assume. Don't know exactly since I finished two hardcover books and continued reading online.
This is fun, light isekai novel about the girl who played the game where protagonist is a long lost daughter of duke whole night and then woke up as a villain in this game. Game had two modes: easy, where you play as a heroine and get your happy ending while villain dies and hard one where you play as a villain and need to make one of the five main guys fall for you or else you die. Now she has to win the game as a villain in a hard mode or die trying.
Penelope is a great character, you can't help but sympathize with her and root for her. But plot is a bit repetitive and, since it's a game, sometimes really weird shit happens. Also guys are not all likeable even though Callisto has all my heart and their chemistry with Penelope immediately made me ship them. Writing style is fairly simple and dialog-heavy, so despite it being long, it doesn't rake long to read. Also I've never read anything similar to this so at least is something new. And this novel is perfect for the end of year when you don't want to think, just read and enjoy yourself, lost in the otome game.
Also it started to be much more intriguing when Yvonne (main heroine) appeared. So expect to finish in the beginning of 2024!

A ver, hay algo que me desespera bastante del mundo literario y lo he visto en mangas, manhwas, novelas, ect y es la FALTA DE COMUNICACIÓN. Niña por dios, tienes al futuro emperador ofreciéndote ser socios para que tengas tu libertar y posteriormente poco y más te ofrece el mundo, pídele ayuda, no es tan complicado, también está su padre el duque pero nada. Quiero saber el final, así que sí o sí terminaré la historia pero agh!
¡Oh cierto! ¿Recuerdan a Eclipse? Nos cae mal eclipse... Si el joven duque que prácticamente echaría a Penélope a los perros por conservar la reputación logró no dejarse controlar al 100% como un guerrero, ex noble que ha podido sobrevivir a la esclavitud y a la visión de su reino ser destruido no puede?!
La "heroína/antagonista", sin sentido, hueca y sin ese encanto que deben tener los antagonistas.

There is unfortunately a bit of diminishing returns as this novel progresses. The repetitive cycle of get blamed, take quest, solve one problem to open three more, and apologize or berate bullies does not have much diversity as it rotates through the character rosters. Some of that is intentional to see the way each handles the issue--but given the large number of capture targets and important NPCs it is also daunting. The world building plot is also getting much more complicated which deemphasizes the interpersonal relationships that have been established. I enjoy a fair amount of it but still found myself disappointed with the contrast between my expectations and where the narrative really goes.

ชอบความดีเทล ความองค์ประกอบ ภูมิหลังตัวละคร และการดำเนินเรื่องมากๆ มันทำให้ทุกๆเหตุการณ์สมเหตุสมผล แม้จะอึดอัดคับข้องใจกับการตัดสินใจของตัวละครแต่กลับเข้าใจและยอมรับได้ อ่านแล้วเหมือนนั่งรถไฟเหาะตีลังกา ไม่มีโมเมนท์ให้พักหายใจหายคอเลย

Ugh such a roller coaster of emotions…

I’ve reached one of the most complicated parts of the novel (without including the end), and to read the betrayals, true hidden intentions of lots of characters, it’s so damn hard.

I’ve been taking my time with this book since I’ve binged the previous ones, including the manwha, and I just need time off, it’s just a lot😭

I love the characters, the story. Just everything means a lot to me, but omfg it’s so hard to see the hardships our protagonist goes through

unrelated to the plot but i love how it like got somewhat more coherent when the original translator had to take a break and then devolved back into like a mess when they took over again. like translating is hard i get that but it fr reads like mtl.
