Even though it is marked as 'horror', sometimes there is a glimmer of humor in this book. Which is good because it is really quite gruesome in places.
I read this book a few times. Since I don't know whether this title was translated in English, here is what I remember from the top of my head. Eps is not a country as such, it is one big city. Eps is a dictatorial state, with very strict rules. One of those rules (and there the humor comes in) is, that actors cannot really act; when a boy has to fall in love in the movie, has has to fall in love in reality with the actress, whether she is a nice person or not.
The author also explains the prison system, where prisoners are left in relative peace... but they will have to sacrifice pieces of themselves to get free.
All in all it is a good fiction book that sadly makes one think of some real countries...
It's #4 in a series published by Bruna, in the Netherlands, between 1971 and 1976. There are 29 books in this series and I own all of them. I used to go shopping for food every Thursday, and on the way back home I stopped at the bookstore to buy myself a book. Those were the days...

Naargeestig boekje. Maar dat is het genre. Ook behoorlijk misogyn, maar ook dat kan bij het genre horen, zeker wanneer het is geschreven door een man.
Het is daarnaast helaas ook niet geweldig geschreven. De gekozen vorm is relaas van een observatie waardoor het bijna een opsomming van de wetenswaardigheden over dit land Eps is, met een zeer magere verhaallijn.
Interessanter en (ondanks naargeestigheid) leuker om te lezen was het geweest als er ook iets gebeurde.
