Ironically we called it my birthday…even though it was actually the day I died.
On the night of Kate Windsor’s centennial, she meets Lucas Wilde, a sweet and unassuming human. Despite everything and everyone telling her to stay away from Lucas, Kate is inexplicably drawn to him. Her coven is not pleased. After all, it’s bad manners to play with your food.
But as clues start to amass that Lucas is not what he seems, so does the presence of those unexpected and unwanted, and it’s up to Kate to protect him.
As Kate’s unique powers begin to manifest, she becomes deadly in a way she never anticipated. Her powers are volatile and unpredictable – much like Kate herself – and should she fail to get control of them, the biggest threat to both she and Lucas is herself.
Caught between protecting the man she loves, loyalty to her coven and saving herself, Kate must make the most important decision of her life. And just as she realizes what she must do, she discovers she never really had a choice.
Malia Jacobs lives in San Diego with the most perfect little boy a mommy could ever dream of. She spends her time reading, writing, obsessing over her iTunes Library and doing whatever it takes to make her son and nephews smile. While she's completed over nine novels, The Immortal Shadows Trilogy is the first of her works ever to be published.
She is currently at work on book two of the series.
Ok, I usually don’t like to leave bad reviews, but there’s certain things I have to vent about. This book was basically a retelling of Twilight. The author took the same powers from certain Twilight characters and gave them to the vampires in this book. I liked some of the characters in the book at first, but after about midway through they became annoying. Lucas just pissed me off with his begging Kate for sex and getting mad at her for not putting out. I mean WTF?!?! How are people okay with this?! And, the authors use of a certain “R” word had me cringing the first time I read it, and then had me wanting to throw my Kindle across the room after about the third time. I gave this book 2 stars because the plot was interesting enough to keep me reading.

WOW. This paranormal read has a little bit of everything. I absolutely loved the character development. Each and every person (and there were tons of them) had strong and detailed personalities. They all seemed so relatable.
This probably would have been a 5 star read for me had it not ended the way it did. Don’t get me wrong, it was a wonderful book, but now I'm left waiting, and book 2 hasn't even been released yet. I just hope that it doesn't take a long time for it to come out, because if that’s the case, I won't read it. I read too much and long spans between books releases personally make me lose interest. Also, my only other complaint is I was left feeling as if I missed a lot from the history of the characters. I was was wanting a little more detail of their pasts.
For a 400+ page book it never failed to hold my attention. It was fast paced and will keep you wanting more!! If you are a paranormal romance junkie like myself, you won't regret buying this book. It was definitely worth the $3.99 I paid at my time of purchase.
Love this book. A great start to the series and I can't wait to see how this series will play out.
Kate will be one of those characters that you either love or hate. She has been through a lot and it seems that everything is always taken away from her. I thought she was pretty strong but she has a really bad habit of being unintentionally self-absorbed. This comes back to bite her in the end when she realizes that not all of her "family" will put their lives on hold for her any more.
Lucas you really couldn't help but love. He was honest and upfront (most of the story) and you can't help but to appreciate that instead of all the secrecy.
There is a good cast of characters here and I look forward to reading all of their stories. I don't think I was bored with any of them. I did question one thing at the end but I can't say here because that would spoil the story, so hopefully that will be answered in the next book.
I liked the way Malia developed her characters. I like a book that can make me feel something, whether it be frustration, affection, or dislike and this book did that and still left me hungry for more. The character development was excellent. The only negative comment I have to make is that there are numerous spelling errors that I feel should have been caught prior to publishing. Spelling and grammatical errors are one of my pet peeves when reading a book, but I can honestly say that they didn't take away from the content, they were just annoying.
I loved everything about this book. Jacobs creates a dark and alluring world with vivid characters that you can't help but fall in love with. Her well-crafted storytelling will leave you aching for more. Twilight fans now have something fresh to read that will have them saying "Bella who?", while the critics of Twilight who demanded a non-sparkly vampire story will eat it up! Team Rob all the way!
If you enjoyed the Twilight books you will really like this one. it is similar to the Twilight books but also very different. I like how the vampire love was a woman instead of a man. I like how it had your good and evil in this book. the love story in this book was wonderful but very sad at the end. look forward to another book in the trilogy. I hope in the next book Kate and Lucas can find the love they once shared.
DNF....Got around 65%, and started skimming A LOT. So, I gave up around 75%. I just didn't care for the main characters. Got on my nerves to the point I couldn't read anymore. I may try it again some other time.
I kept getting so aggravated with the characters. One second their personality was likeable and the next, I despised them. I lost count of how many times I wanted to reach into the book and smack them. I just....ugh.
I normally don't read paranormal, but I found myself engulfed in this book. The characters were brought to life so well that I felt as if I knew them. I think you will be happy to take the chance on this book as I did.
