Prone to Love

Rate this book
Stop trying to become who you are already are! "Prone to Love is a straightforward and disarming, a breath of fresh air!" --Bonnie Chavda, Founder and Pastor of All Nations Church If you have been around Christian circles long enough, you have heard the phrase, “child of God.” As believers, we use language like this all the time describing our relationship with the Father—but do we really know what it means? What if we actually lived out of the relationship and reality we talked, preached, and sung about? Easy. We would change the world. The roadblock preventing us from stepping into our identities as sons and daughters of God is not lack of discipline, resources, or creative ideas. We have all of this… What’s missing? To discover who you are, first, you must know Who the Father is and what He’s like. "You can't read Prone to Love and not recall the goodness of God in your life." -- Shawn Ring, Executive Pastor, Gateway Church

This book is life altering and written so well. I am afraid that no matter what I write here, it won't do this book justice. For me personally, I have known God as love, but the author somehow creates a deeper, more personal connection that allows me to embrace my identity as a son of God in a whole new light. He kept me intrigued and I couldn't wait to read the next chapter.

I strongly recommend this book for those who struggle with accepting the fact that they are loved unconditionally without measure. This book helps reveal our often self-abased view of ourselves that God is contradicting with His love towards us. Learning how to embrace and be transformed by His love is the key to everything in life. So this book is pretty big deal and you may want to read it.

This is the second book that I’ve read by Jason Clark. Content wise this book is great, but writing and format was harder for me to follow. So 5 stars for content and 3 stars for writing style. I would definitely recommend it though. But if you can only read one, start with “God is Not in Control.” A few of my favorite quotes from Prone to Love are below:

A relationship where the son is always desperate for the father is dysfunctional. (P. 24)

If God is love, then you could say it like this: need cannot exist in love. Need is actually counter to the nature of love. Love trumps every need, every time. It’s the good news that only gets better. (P. 30)

Need fosters insecurity, while love cultivates identity. (P. 30)

If you want to become more aware of His presence, it starts with believing that He loves you. (P. 46)

Need will always be with me but it doesn’t have to define me. I am leaning into a greater revelation, a truer language — the love of my Father. And I am convinced that the Christian life is not meant to revolve around need, but is instead a headlong daring discovery of His love. (P. 65)

Need is self-focused. If it’s our foundation, then in every interaction we will protect our right to need. If need is the foundation of our relationship with God, we relegate ourselves to a poverty existence. For those consumed by need, God’s love is a limited resource, heaven is a remote future, and life, hope, and peace are distant realities that must be striven for. In the measureless generosity of our Father’s love, needs are not just met, they are miraculously redeemed. The reality of heaven transforms the reality on earth. Fear, insecurity, shame, condemnation, every life-taxing fruit of need bends the knee and love trumps. (P. 66-67)

When we slave, we are unable to celebrate mercy or grace in the lives of others. The scary thing about slaving, besides the fact that it sucks, is that it will actually position us against the very Father we think we serve. There are a lot of older brother rumblings coming from the church today — religious slaves seeking judgment for failed, lost, deceived, and even restored prodigals. In fact, I would guess much of the world see the church as the older brother, slaving for a Father while wagging our finger in judgment at a lost, lonely, broken, and confused world. Here’s what I believe: the desire to see judgment come to a lost sinner, a fallen, or even a deceived saint, is not the heart of the Father — ever. (P. 94)

When we take our eyes off our Father and His perfect love for us, we forget why we are here. We become more interested in defending a set of principles than revealing love. Jesus didn’t come to defend a gospel; He came to reveal the perfection of our Father’s love. It’s religious vanity to think we are here to do anything different. (P. 95)

I don’t need to defend the faith to know who I am. Neither my identity nor my value is discovered in my beliefs, it’s discovered in my Father’s nature. It’s discovered in how He see me — I am loved. (P. 95)

I believe self-control is the only kind of control God endorses. It’s the gift of choice and the evidence of His Spirit within us. (P. 107)

The root of Satan’s lie was that God is about control, that God wants to control us. And it’s a huge lie! The idea that He would withhold some aspect of His nature suggests an imperfection in our Father’s love. I believe this original distortion of our Father’s nature is still the foundational lie that separates us from His love and the fullness of our freedom and authority in Christ. (P. 108)

If I don’t know the truth, I become a slave to the lie. If I believe my Heavenly Father is not always good, that sometimes He allows bad things to happen to people to get their attention, then I live enslaved to that lie. Therefore, when someone is sick, I can’t pray with faith, authority, and power because maybe God is allowing the sickness. When someone is broke, I have to make sure it isn’t God’s will before giving. When someone is emotionally bound, I am forced to check in with God before setting him or her free. To be honest, if my heavenly Father is not always good, then I don’t want any part of Him. (P. 113-114)

When Jesus cried out ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?’, “Jesus point us to a Scripture that ultimately determines that the Father doesn’t hide His face or ‘turn back.’ In fact, the truth is quite the opposite: ‘but when He cried to Him for help, He heard.’” (P. 118)

While David [in the Psalms] had no problem acknowledging that valleys exist and that there are enemies in those valleys, he gives God no credit for the valley season. (P. 124)

God never instigates nor manipulates a tragedy to grow faith — that’s not what a good Father does. But it is what a controlling God would do. To suggest God assists in evil things happening to us for our own good is to suggest that God partners with the enemy to grow our faith. (P. 146)

If a person sings the line, “prone to wander,” to tell the story of a life without Jesus, it is a powerful picture of a life-changing revelation. But when a believer sings those lyrics as a proclamation of the future, they are debilitating and destructive. While that line in the song is sound theology for the sinner, it is devastating theology for the saint. (P. 167)

When our focus is on not sinning, our understanding of the enemy is greater than our revelation of God’s love. Christians should never live more afraid of failing God than revealing love. If our ability to sin is greater than His ability to make us righteous, we have undermined the power of the cross. (P. 174)

As someone who has always struggled to believe God loves me, until recently, I am always on the look out for books like these to help cement the belief that God does love me, and this was a great and helpful book for that. The author is totally confident in God's love in a way that I can only hope to attain.

He has some great advice on how to live more confidently in God's love, and has several personal stories to get his point across. I loved the book, and was so impressed with the author's writing, I bought another of his books.

God is love, and Love is the answer.

In this book the author has some great revelations on love, what it encompasses and what actualize hinders it. I did find the author's style to be very wordy, and hard at times to follow his flow of thought, among all of his stories both bad and good. And then the author net to an extreme, believing that we could live a sinless day in this darkened fallen world. Whereby perhaps we may not commit any known overt sins, there are sins such as not be living God's Word to its fullness, not witnessing to others, not caring for and providing for others, not esteeming others as better than ourselves.

A refreshing read especially for those in the Christian faith. Clark reminds us of the sacrifice Jesus has made and how it transforms our lives today. Major takeaways have been Clark differentiating between control and authority . I also love his emphasis on the fact that experiencing Gods true love will naturally lewd to transformation/repentance.

Good! It challenges you to examine your life and faith and to think about the topics brought up by the author. It's thought provoking and at times almost shocking. Clark shares relatable anecdotes to introduce and define his theories.

“Stop Trying To Become Who You Already Are” “If you have been around Christian circles long enough, you have heard the phrase, “child of God.” As believers, we use language like this all the time describing our relationship with the Father – but do we really know what it means? What if we actually lived out the relationship and reality we talked, preached, and sung about? Easy. We would change the world. The roadblock preventing us from stepping into our identities as sons and daughters of God is not lack of discipline, resources, or creative ideas. We have all this… What’s missing? To discover who you are, first, you must know Who the Father is and what He’s like”

My husband asked me the other day what I was reading. I showed him the cover of the book. He asked what it is about. I said… God’s Love. To which he replied… and??? And I looked at him for a long minute and said… I can’t put it into words right now. Where do you begin to write about a book like Prone To Love?

This 220-page treasure is jammed with so much honest truth, that I am indeed having a hard time putting it into words. I can tell you that I was blessed more than once reading the authors stories during this journey of Love. Pure and honest – and sometimes hysterically funny – stories. We try so hard to make it all so much more than it is. When it all boils down to just what the author says… LOVE. God’s love… that He is always with us and He is always speaking to us… and what He is speaking is Love. If you want to become more away of His presence, it starts with believing that He loves you.

This is another book that will not be relegated to the shelf. No… this book requires a second read, and then perhaps a deeper study. To say that I loved this book and it’s message is an understatement. A profound thank you to the author for sharing this with us.

This is Perfection! Prone to Love, I assure you, will be a revelation to anyone who will read it.

I know that there's a lot of book out there that almost has the same substance like this one BUT! What makes this so different from the others is that the author did an impeccable job of dealing with the subject. A subject that I know a lot of people are tired of hearing. And what is that? LOVE! That Love is the answer! That Love is God! That Love is free and it's everywhere! Let me share you a quote from the book (honestly, everything from this book is quotable, I think every sentence of my reader is highlighted! :p)

"What if Love is the foundation of everything? What if Love is the beginning and the end and everything in between and everything after? What if Love answers every question that aches the heart of humanity? What if Love is more than a feeling? What if Love meets every need?.."

Ahhh... after reading that particular phrase, I can't help but ask myself “Yes, What if Love is the only thing missing? And not just any love, His love”

The author did an amazing job of constructing every sentence. It's very easy to understand and can captivate your heart to the point that after reading a few sentences, you have to put it down and ponder what you just read.

“Im not, by the way, a 'Christian writer'. I'm just a guy who writes about Love.

This book is for everyone. It's for people who want to feel more of God's love. It's for people who gave up on love and afraid to try again. It's for people who want to feel a Love so strong you can't help but to share it to the people that surrounds you.

“God is Love. His Love is always good. And we exist to become sure of that love.. It was that simple. It was that beautiful. Love always is.”

Review Title: Love Unrestrained (a review of Prone to Love by Jason Clark)
Reviewer: Janice S.Garey
Five Stars*****

Jason Clark's book, Prone to Love, compels one to think deeply about the all encompassing love of God that surpasses all else. He uses personal stories to engage readers in his own journey beginning with a limited understanding of God's supreme love of His own. One helpful thought among the many was a discussion of how some people view God to be similar to an oscillating fan. One moment He shows favor and the next He turns away. Jason Clark disputes this view of God's love. I found the book to be down to earth, and a bit surprising in the ways it's author found to accurately portray the extent of God's love. Some people who have always had a view of God waiting to catch a person doing wrong so He can show His wrath will have that way of thinking fully challenged and defeated through reading this book. You will feel swaddled in God's love on each page of the book. By fully trusting in God's love, God's children find new incentive to be good stewards of all God has entrusted to them.

I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for reading it and posting an honest review. I thank the author for sharing what he has found to be the truth of the extent of God's love. This is indeed a message that needed to be shared and will benefit believers as well as those who are seeking to know more about God.

Are you confident in God's love? Do you feel secure in your relationship with God? Are you still striving to earn grace? The author is a man who knows with certainty that he is loved by God and whose life has been transformed by God's love. He wants to encourage readers to embrace and experience this powerful, profound, perfect love of God. Jason Clark sums up his theology into 2 sentences: "God is love. God is always good." This book dares you to discover God's love in a deeper way and aims to help you live in a radical revelation of your Father's love. The author addresses the issues of need vs. love and control vs. love.

Are you struggling with your identity? The author invites you to look at yourself and the world through God's eyes. Do you see yourself as God sees you? You should...you must. It will make a difference on how you act/how you live. The author believes that in Christ, we're no longer prone to wander, but prone to love, instead. Throughout the whole book, he shines a spotlight on the measureless, magnificent magnitude of God's unconditional love for us. Check out this refreshing read and learn to rest assured & secured in your Heavenly Daddy's love! Let's live in God's love, live a life of love, and leave a legacy of love!

ason Clark's book , Prone to Wander LOVE , is filled with many personal stories of people, places, and situations where he shares his insight into the love of God.

He writes, sings, composes songs expressing his love of God. Many of his song lyrics are included in this book, taken from his album, Heaven's Crush.

Basically when you get done reading about his captivating experiences ,his bottom line is:"We are to be heart-lovers first."

I enjoyed the experiences he shares with his readers, excitingly speaking about loving the Lord with all your heart. "... God's love is beautiful, but its beauty is truly discovered in its power .

Just a note to mention that this style of book lacked a certain literary flow as each chapter is broken up into many sections. I think that one could sum up Jason Clark's book by quoting Luke 10:27:"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind."

Jason Clark is truly inspiring, and expresses his love of God, family ,and friends through his writing and music.

Jason Clark is an engaging, emotive writer. He infuses his writing with humor and I enjoyed his conversational tone.

The message of this book is simple. God loves you. Because that sentence has become cliché, we sometimes forget the true meaning. And God doesn’t command us to love Him, he doesn’t need us to love him, but he desires our love. I believe every Christian's desire is to love God completely, but sometimes we are mislead as to how that is truly accomplished.

Through this examination of Christ’s life, we see how He trusted God and was secure in His love. We can know a deeper understanding of that love and instill it into every aspect of our lives—even deeper than you thought possible.

A very moving, engrossing, life-changing read.

Prone to Love, by Jason Clark is the kind of book I love. I fell in love with Mark Batterson’s style of writing and Jason Clark’s style is so similar, I fell in love with his book as well. I love how personal they are, taking us deeper into our Christ walk while sharing details about their own lives to encourage, inspire, and challenge. I feel like I’m on a journey with friends who understand and support, not someone telling me what to do.

This is a book I’ll be recommending to many people. I haven’t finished it yet because I’m savoring it and using it for my morning devotions, reading a chapter at a time, but I find reading it that way helps me to absorb what he’s saying much better than reading it all at once.

Jason Clark has come to an understanding of God's love and he shares it with us in this book. having read the book, I do have many questions about the teaching contained within it, as compared to Scripture. I have written an extensive critique of the book at my blog, and you can see the review at http://bit.ly/1h3E13Z. I probably have the most questions about his teaching that Christians are no longer sinners. Our very DNA is holy now, he says. I also have question about Clark saying that God can't stand control, that God is all about freedom. I ask many questions in my blogged review based on Scripture and I suggest you go to it for a complete review.

Do you know how much you are loved?

The answer is I am learning. I thoroughly loved this book. It answered questions and confirmed some answers. Possible it will do the same for you. Jason shares from his life and entwined it with lessons of God's love for us and our identity.
He points out how important it is to know how God sees us and how much we are loved. That by knowing that we will no longer respond to our Father out of need. This I believe is a book that will impact your life, make you think, and can change you if you let it. Highly recommend reading this. I know I will be reading it again. Thank you Jason for sharing this with us.

"Prone to Love" is like finding a secret door that opens up to a world full of God's love. Jason Clark has written an incredible book that is sure to become a grassroots bestseller.

I probably highlighted half the book and find myself going back to parts again and again. I highly recommend anyone to read it and I couldn't agree with Mark Batterson more when he calls it, "an irresistible journey into transforming love."

I will be recommending this book to my friends, family and complete strangers.

What if. What if we focused on how much God loves us and worked each day on showing and sharing that love? What if everyone did this? Could this even be possible? Jason Clark thinks so. Prone To Love shows how this could be possible. This is a humorous, biblically based book that challenges you to change the way you think; about sin, about redemption, about God and his never changing love for us. I found this book captivating and couldn't wait to share it with others. It is a life changer!!

This book is a captivating and inspiring story of God's Love. In telling us through his own experiences, Jason Clark shares his love of God, people, family and friends.
Not only is Jason Clark an author he also writes and composes songs that also tell of his love for God.
The key to this book is found in Luke 10:27.

I recommend this book.

I found Jason Clark’s Prone to LOVE, a book filled with many heart felt stories and experiences with family and friends. Although I did find the book a little difficult to read as the chapters were broken and at times hard to follow. I found the authors love of the Lord very evident throughout the book.
