Every 5-6-7 books, I like to read a French one to keep up my vocabulary. I am totally bilingual but usually read in English. This keeps me on track!
Guy des Cars writes beautifully (it's the fourth one of his I have read). It is the bittersweet story of a romance between a tall, blond Parisian man named Alain and a beautiful Tunisian Muslim woman named Khadija. Each chapter (4 in all) starts at the hotel where they first shared their love.
An old Russian prince named Vladimir is the night clerk who comes to expect "his couple" each year on October 5 at the same time, putting the same bottle of cheap champagne on ice for them.
All does not end well and they both return to their lives...
Marvellous! Absolutely wanderfull! A masterpiece! I think this author is undervalued and in my humble opinion he is one of the best ones.. Please join if you agree!
