For those who grieve, he offers comfort. For those who struggle, he offers rest. For those overcome by pain, he offers hope and healing. To those who carry emotional burdens too large for them to bear, Christ offers his strength.
In The Source of My Strength, Dr. Charles Stanley talks honestly about his own journey through emotional pain and points readers toward the wellspring of strength. He shares his own experiences with grief and shows readers how to overcome the pain, understand the burdens, confront memories, and discover the courage and strength to live freely in God's love for them. Written from the heart, The Source of My Strength is one of Dr. Stanley's most personal and triumphant books.
Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.
However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”
Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.
For me, this book addressed many of the feelings I think we all experience. What a positive, loving and in depth study of such subjects as feeling lonely, feeling inferior and the suffering of burn out on life in general. Dr. Stanley seems to have the ability to hit the truly troublesome points in life with the caring , loving word of God. I have felt a deeper understanding of the feelings between me and my God, our Father since reading this book. I would recommend this book for all. What great lessons there are to be learned !
"If LORD asks you to run to a wall, just do it! When you're there at the wall, HE will make a hole for you."
I learn a lot from this book. I learn that HE won't compare me. HE is provider of my whole life. HE provides in His Way. HE doesn't care whether other already has what I want. HE only cares what best for me.
This is a remarkable book filled with great moments showing how God uses His strength and power for our welfare and to further His divine purpose.
I enjoyed the honesty, integrity, fortitude, he showed in his response to life circumstances. Dr. Stanley’s young life, upbringing, dreams, goals, and aspirations are also nicely highlighted. I appreciate how He interacts with others, those standing with him, and those who choose to go against him.
Life was not sweet or kind every day, so we see Dr. Stanley develop strength, grit, and determination. Life kept knocking him down, as a child and tried again later in his life, so we see him learn to stand his ground, lean on God, listen for inspired directions, and stand firm in His faith.
Dr. Stanley comes off as a interesting man, with a true and strong heart for God. This is a soothing and moving book to read. This book has lots of great examples of how to walk an enlightened path of faith, and it is A book that I highly recommend.
I really learned from this book as we navigated our way through it for our ladies Bible study. So many truths and tools to navigate the hard things we encounter in life. I encourage everyone to read and make it applicable to your life.
The simple, easy to understand language of this book brought me to a new level of understanding my walk with Jesus Christ. It seemed as though God had a plan for what I would read and when. I didn't just pick it up and finish it quickly. He would have me lay it aside, and just when I needed the next chapter, I would open it, and the topic I was dealing with either personally, or a loved one was dealing with that very thing, would be the next chapter. I drove all over town and into the next town to buy more copies so that I could give them away whenever the Lord said so. This book will be a blessing, if you will allow it to be, and allow God to work on you through it. Dr. Stanley shares much of his childhood, and early years in this book and gives you deep insight into what molded and made him the Pastor he is today.
Charles Stanley is a name I've often heard over the years but this was the first book of his that I have read. I was very impressed. Each and every chapter was laiden with nuggets of wisdom and realistically helpful advice. This read was timely for my own spiritual walk and I would highly recommend it to any believer that is or has ever dealt with loneliness, frustration, burnout, etc. His own personal stories really engage the reader and make the author's points relatable. A must read for any believer.
I love Charles Stanley's writings. One of the best things about his writing is the amount of personal application and real-life examples of the principle he is teaching. So often it is easy to generalize and share a "surface" message. But Stanely really dives in deeper and helps you apply what he is telling you by offering from his own experiences.
Great pastor. This, though....it's as if he owed a book to his publisher and just spit something out hoping it would sell on his name alone. Well, mission accomplished. Not awful, but it's all recycled platitudes.
This book had some great words of comfort. At times I felt it working on my heart. It is written just like Charles Stanley preaches and is compiled from several sermon series. Very good to read if you seek peace and healing.
