Darkness swallows light every time.

Compassion has no place in our world.

Compassion will get you killed.

Donata knew that, and yet she freed the man that I was sent to torture. And delivered herself right into my hands. I’m the enforcer for the Rosetti family.

I’ve always wanted her. Watched her from afar. But she was protected, that little princess, the spoiled Versace-wrapped daughter of a made man.

Now that she’s violated our code, her father has no choice but to deliver her right into my cruel hands. Donata’s too innocent and good for a man like me – which is exactly why I want her.

I want to put my hands on her. To stain that pure soul and make her see the world for the corrupt, filthy sewer it really is.

Because how else will she survive? She thinks that she’ll be able to change me. She thinks she can weaken me with kindness and decency.

She’s about to find out that you can’t melt a man’s heart if he doesn’t have one.

Welcome to the world of hateful starts. Be warned, this book is full of triggers so dark that the faint of heart should turn back. You'll get your happily-ever-after, but not before your heart is twisted, chewed and spit out. Good luck my dear readers.

I admired the heroine's fighter's stance even under duress. Donata was perfect for Diego in every way! Diego didn't know what he had in Donata until she was his. The 30 days only made him want her forever!

Can't wait to read about Claudio because he was fighting some major demons!

"That just means you have a backbone Donata." - Diego

"I'm dragging you down into the darkness with me." - Diego

"It's a fight that I can only pray he loses. He wants to choose loneliness and hate. I want him to choose me." - Donata

3.5 dark stars!

This is the first book in the Chicago Crime Family Series by Ginger Talbot. Ginger has become one of my favorite authors especially when I want something darker. This one was a bit tame but I still enjoyed it. Diego Costa is an Enforcer who works for Umberto Rosetti, who reports directly to Capo Tiberio Calibri. Diego has plans and he’s not gonna let some spoiled mafia princess ruin them. Donata Rosetti is the only daughter of Umberto and he’s kept her in a gilded cage all her life. She knows her father will force her to marry someone of his choosing but thanks to her stepmother she’ll be able to wait till she graduates college. Diego and his man, Claudio are at Umberto’s lake house to torture Vinnie, a drug dealer when Donata unexpectedly shows up. Diego is anxious to get rid of her so he can get back to his prisoner in the basement. When Donata does the unthinkable putting the whole organization at risk Diego has the perfect plan to punish her.

I really enjoy this book, I recently read Matteo and now Diego. Gah, this book is gets me the feels Diego is so confused he hates Donata one minute the next he loves how she is. Donata is the mafia princess, who was raised to me a quite young woman.

I enjoy the way this author writes her books. You get lost in the story. I enjoyed this book it has action and some dark scenes but the story is soo good. Can’t wait to read book 2 in the series..

When i received this story from Ginger,i was eager to start. Because i love her darkness.
This is the story of Donata,a maffia daughter, that gets into trouble by helping a man escape that was in trouble with the family. Diego, the family enforcer responsible for dealing with this man, demands retribution. And Donata, being the daughter of the man responsible for his father’s death, will pay with her body for 30 days. He will break her, that sweet pampered girl. And then he’ll hand her over to his boss. Only, she slowly breaks down his walls instead. Until he can’t stomach the thought of handing her over after the 30 days are up. An enjoyable read, with tough maffiamen, arseholes, sweet girls, bitches and drama.

With tons of twists and turns and underlying secrets that had me shocked, I was once again extremely impressed by how talented Talbot is! The characters were well developed and the romance was off the charts sexy hot and felt genuine. However, like her other books, this one was inundated with grammatical and punctuation errors. As just one example, 1 of the chapters is titled “NICO” yet there is no Nico in the story?!?! If Talbot would hire a proofreader, this book would be absolute perfection!!!

Pretty bow.

This was action packed, everything that happens is tied up in a pretty little bow for you so you're left wondering about nothing. The supposed jerk wasn't really a bad guy after all, just a nice guy in a tough situation. This couple itself was a side story and hard to relate to them as a unit, but they were good characters individually. Overall a decent mafia read. Diego himself was an awesome character, I think he could've been amazing if more focus was on him versus everything else.

I love mafia romance. While elements of this story were good there were others that frustrated me because I really wanted this to be a good one in regards to the Mafia lifestyle.

Everyone says this next book is better and I hope so because I really struggled to connect with the characters in this book. Still a reasonable start to a new series.

This book had everything I was expecting.
Alpha possesive anti hero, cruel but devoted to heroine.
The book is fast paced and entertaining.
I would prefer that the hero don’t be that cruel but it was easy to read.
I didn’t like that the hero let other men see her naked

The Master of Manipulation

Magnificent read in this the first book Diego: A Dark Mafia Hate Story of the Chicago Crime Family Series. Ginger Talbot certainly delivers a thrilling, dark Mafia storyline of the very best for her readers! From the outset the book is gripping, full of the most unexpected twists and turns, a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat with bated breath. The characters are amazing and written with such clarity. A highly recommended read.
Diego Costa is an enforcer for Umberto Rosetti and is using Donata Rosetti as a pawn in his revenge? But what is his end game? Will Donata’s soft heart and her biggest mistake to her father’s crime family be her downfall or will and can she fight back? Her pride is all she has will she survive Diego’s souless cruelty? Will Diego pay the price to avenge his father’s death?

I WILL HAVE TO AGREE WITH SOME REVIEWERS THAT IT WASNT GOOD LIKE THE AUTHOR'S THIRTY SERIES. THIS ONE SEEMED CHOPPY AND THE ROMANCE QUITE DISCONNECTED.

MALE LEAD is a jerk and I'm fine with that. While many complain about that fact...I revere in it because this is exactly what the story is about. A ruthless, alpha male with power who doesn't give a shit about anyone, does whatever he likes within his authority and a slip of a girl who almost cost him his life will not get away with it. Makes perfect sense because they were strangers and he also believes her to be like all the mafioso daughters, bitches who were sluts in disguise. While Diego treated our heroine poorly at first, he does have his redeeming qualities when his conscience gets the better of him and he starts to care for his little prisoner.

HEROINE came off weak and meek at first but I loved how she grew a backbone and the fact that she can kick ass and do self defence was a bonus. Pampered and brought up pure and strictly no masturbation allowed, she was a prude until she was given away to Diego. I was annoyed by her immature and childish persona at first because like I said the story had moments that were just disconnected.

OVERALL the story fell flat for me in some parts because if it wasn't for the jerk factor going on....there was nada que es interansante for me in this one. Don't get your hopes too high for this one.

What a fantastic deliciously wicked dark romance!!

This is a great read and I highly recommend it. Especially to all the dark twisted romance lovers out there.

Donata is a good girl mafia princess, but one wrong decision and her life will never be the same. Diego is the man that gets to ruin the mafia princess because her decision messed things up for him and made him look bad. Diego has secrets and he will use Donata as a pawn in his game to get what he wants. Part of what he wants consists of humiliating and ruining little Miss Donata and she definitely hates him for everything he's putting her through. Underneath it all there is an attraction between these two but nothing can ever come of it. One because Donata refuses to let him break her and she definitely doesn't trust him. And two because Diego has plans for himself and his crew when it comes to moving up in the cruel mafia world he lives in. As much as he'd like to keep Donata he knows he must use her and give her to the cruel underboss, Angelo in order to keep up appearances. Will they be able to save each other or will they end up tearing each other down? Grab this wonderfully written story and find out. make sure to hold on tight because it's a twisted wicked tale and will have you hanging on the edge of your seat to find out what happens!!!

Another beautifully written book from Ginger who is so talented writing dark sexy romantic suspense stories, this was filled with drama, action involving rival mafia gangs, emotion, betrayal and romance. It captivates you throughout making it an addictive page turner, it was fast paced with a complex plot making it difficult to put down until you turn the very last page. Diego is the enforcer for the Rosetti Mafia family in Chicago, hard with impregnable walls due to his family history, when Donata Rosetti’s daughter disgraces the Mafia code and ends up in Diego’s possession as a sex toy to punish and humiliate in public for retribution. Donata appears to be the mafia monsters spoilt princess but deep down she wants to escape her overbearing father. What happens when Donata and Diego start spending more time together especially when they have an undeniable chemistry between them?? And what will Diego do when he is expected to give Donata away to his sadistic mafia boss for him to degrade and demean her further?? Well the answers are in the book, I definitely recommend you get it. I was given this as an ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review, I have also purchased a copy for my own personal collection.

Diego is exactly as it says 'A Dark Mafia Hate Story'.
Ginger Talbot draws you into the Mafia lifestyle from the first page. I could not put this book down once I started it, it is definitely a page-turner that keeps you hooked. This book has everything you would expect from the genre as well as so much deception and backstabbing that you don't know whether Diego is a hero or an antihero.
Diego was a soldatos for Umberto Rosetti, but soon rose to be an enforcer. He was a sadistic man who loved to torture men who had done his 'family' wrong.
Donata Rosetti was the pampered daughter of Umberto, and just one kind, unintentional thing she did, caused a ripple effect that would take its toll on everyone that she knew and held dear.
Diego was a bad person and would use anyone he could to reach his end game, would Donata be able to survive him, would she want to?

The details the storyline the danger these characters are so well written you feel like you are watching a dark twisted mafia movie. The storyline is amazing the characters are complex and captivating. The tug of war between the cartels is darkly excessive in violence and corruption. The emotional attachment is compelling. The fight for power is overwhelming. Donata is the sheltered daughter of one of the mafia families. Diego is an enforcer within the cartel, nothing and no one besides his men mean anything anymore. That is until his plan to destroy Danota's father and his power for revenge takes a unexpected turn when he is given Danota as a reward for his services that everything he thought is challenged.

Ginger doesn’t disappoint with this mafia love-hate story
This is my 5th book by Ginger and I love an author who writes in dual point of view. Diego has long being planning his revenge of his father and mother’s deaths. Donata releases someone being held in the basement of her family’s lake home which starts a series of unfortunate events. Diego seizes the opportunity to use Donata as a chess piece in his revenge with some benefits. But what happens when the boss decides it is time to stake his claim to Donato? Will Diego be able to complete his revenge and keep Donata for himself? You have to read to find out and will be not be able to put it down until you turn the last page.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I do have a bit of a weakness for the Mafia stories and I did enjoy reading this one. I liked how Donata developed as a character and wasn’t the total spoilt pushover she seemed to be initially. I also confess to liking alpha Male Diego and the chemistry between them sizzled at times. What detracted from the story was the numerous minor typos and also one of the chapters was mysteriously entitled ‘Nico’ when I assume it should have been ‘Diego’? It’s a shame those discrepancies weren’t ironed out before publishing, hence it dropping to a 3.5 star rating from me. However, I would definitely read more from this author

A dirty romance

A good first book in this series, it's dirty and at times downright nasty but it's intriguing and love wins in the end. It's a brutal mafia story that involved the politics of the family. Diego is a mafia soldier who has worked his way in as an enforcer but has his own agenda Donata is a mafia boss's daughter who falls foul of the rules and brings the downfall of her father and is given to Diego as punishment. Nothing goes exactly to plan and these two end up falling in love. In the end she helps him to establish himself as a boss and his plan to take over is further advanced. A good start to what promises to be a gritty series.

A solid 3.5 stars. This book is a dark romance mixed with all kinds of lies, half truths, suspense, and finally the truth. There is a lot of things that happen in this book. This is not my first book by this author, it will not be my last.

Diego has worked his way up through the mafia for his own personal vendetta. Donata is a mafia princess who messes up and plays right into Diego's hands. Plans are set into motion, wrongs are made right, and hearts come into play. The question is will they survive once everything gets set into motion?

loved it! first was Matteo, now Diego. great freaking mafia romance that I would consider a must read. romance, action, steam, plot twist, all things mafia related and with a character like donate!? I absolutely LOVED her! meek yet strong, completely shakes what you assume of her while Diego was a perfect mafia man. does what needs to be done and is all about respect

id love to read about Claudio though haha. hardcore, uncaring, yet absolutely loyal to Diego. Where women are just women, what kind of lady would he fall for?

***3.5 Stars ***

I really enjoyed this mafia book by Ginger Talbot. This book had some dark elements. I like the loyalty aspect with the men in this book. Diego and his crew are loyal to each other through thick and thin. Even though Donata is the mafia princess in this book she has a back bone and wasn't afraid to show it. I liked how Diego had his own agenda and Donata fit right in and they managed to work together. For me b/c I was not feeling it at times, it was a bit on the slow side.

Couldn't put this down! Decided to have a Mafia Bad Boy Weekend(!) and finished this in a day. Got to love those brooding, sexy anti-heroes and Diego is one of the best, sublime tenderness submerged beneath his brutal exterior. Reading this was cathartic as I got to indulge my obsession with dark alpha males while safe in my armchair. Donata is a strong, multi-faceted heroine and I was rooting for her to the end. Would recommend this to anyone eager to escape reality and immerse themselves in a vivid and exciting world!

Unknown to Donate Diego must show no mercy and display her as a slave. Diego must continue with his plan for revenge and how to save Donate for himself. Good start not bad to read

What a great story full of truths, lies, suspense it has it all and I devoured it. Dante a Mafia Enforcer who is powerful and takes no crap at all from anyone and out for revenge and he gets handed the Mafia princess Donata for punishment and humiliation to pay for all her wrongs but he is in for a surprise she is one strong sassy powerful woman and I loved her character. These two together are fire and perfection as they battle who will win and who really is the captive.

I loves this book. Ginger Talbot is one of my favorites. Diego had me doubting but he pulled thru in the end. As for Donata she was so sweet but had a will of steel. They made a good pair. I cant wait to see if others from this series get a book. Kind of want to know what Diego has planned for the last man that had something to do with his fathers death. We will see if this is the end or there will be more to this series.

Diego is a hate story. Be warned. There is no compassion or anything of that sorts.
Diego is a bad man with no morals and eyes only on what he wants or is ordered to do. You are gonna dislike and hate him.
Donata is a pampered princess of the criminal world until she does something unforgivable. Yes - one thing and a fairy tale ending.
There will be abuse, cursing and power fight. It was an ok story as I think characters hadn't laid like both mc should.

This book was something I am still not sure if it was love or hate I have the book and that is what I liked. Donata was put in a bad place and everyone hurt her in their own ways her father her stepmother and even Diego. I liked the loyalty she had and the backbone. This book was hard in places I do not like those parts where she is shown naked publicly as punishment even if it is only to Diego's men it just put me off.

I read Claudio first and thought perhaps I’d like Diego more because I liked the characters as they appear in Claudio. Wrong again. I wanted to like this book but I couldn’t get into it. And the poor editing didn’t help (at one point the hero is named Nico instead of Diego and then in a later chapter the name of the heroine was “Heroine” instead of Donata. There’s some attempt at character development but by the time I was done, I decided to forgot the rest of the series.
