Gracie's Touch

Rate this book
Gracie Jones was little more than a child when the Earth was invaded by an alien species. Escaping into the subway tunnels of New York City, she hid in fear of being captured. Discovered by four men who became her protectors, she fought alongside them and they became known as the Freedom Five. At seventeen, she made a decision that turned the tide on the war between Earth and the Alluthans but in exchange she gave up all that she knew. Kordon Jefe is a Zion Warrior and commanding officer in charge of the Confederation of Planets military. When an unknown species begins attacking some of their outer settlements, he is assigned to discover who they are and stop them...at any cost. Gracie unknowingly finds herself stranded millions of light years and hundreds of years in the future in a distant galaxy on an undeveloped moon. When an old enemy threatens once more, she does not hesitant to use her knowledge to try to stop them once again. Only this time, it is not just Earth she will be saving but the Confederation itself. When their two worlds are thrown together, Kordon is unsure what to do with the strange, delicate creature that fights and behaves unlike anything he has ever encountered before. One thing he does know, he plans to keep her.

This was a cute, quick, alien/mate/futuristic read.

With not so of much this:

description

But some of this:

description

And more of this:

description

For realz though, some scenes did seem very...Star War-sy.

But whatevs!

I enjoyed it for what it was: a hot, short, mate-based PNR read with a surprising little punch of feels.

I could have gone for a little more character/relationship development, but I'll take it.

AND read number two.

I couldn't finish this book. I'm willing to give most books a pass on some of the technical details for the sake of the story, but I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough.

First of all, if you've just learned that everyone you care about died 800 years ago, you're not going to fall in love with someone you've exchanged about seven sentences with no more than a day later. It's made even worse when the medic on the ship points out that Gracie is suffering from depression, but it's apparently cured by the hawt sex she has with the hero.

In addition, the secondary romance has a bit of a rapey vibe when the hero ties the heroine up and has sex with her even when she's saying no. Plus, even if you tie up a partner, you NEVER leave them tied up while you go to a meeting! What if someone had attacked the ship (which happens in the next chapter)? She'd be helpless -- she couldn't release herself and he was elsewhere on the ship!

But even aside from this, what really bothered me was the lack of understanding of how female body parts work. (SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU ARE BOTHERED BY DISCUSSIONS OF FEMALE AND MALE GENITALIA!) The hymen is not far inside the woman's body. The hymen is on the outside of the vaginal opening -- on the surface. In addition, women don't have nerve endings at the deepest part of their vaginas. If the alien penis has magical tickling fingers at the end, that's nice, but it won't make a difference to the woman. It certainly won't turn her on.

When I got to the part where Gracie found a random working computer at the mining colony and used it to hack into the enemy ship without even discussing how she made access from the ground to the ship, I just couldn't read any more. I'd be willing to accept that she can write an effective virus on the fly, but getting it into the system is a whole different problem, and it's not even acknowledged. That's pretty much the point where I had to stop. Maybe if I could let those things pass, the book would be enjoyable, but I just couldn't manage it.

I just read this book for the 9th time. I kid you not. I absolutely think this is the best book that S.E. Smith has written, IMO. I cannot say enough about it. I am always surprised that there aren't a lot more people touting this book. It is so moving and beautiful.

My boys know that when I tell them that I am about to read Gracie's Touch, that I am going to be a basket-case for the first hour or so. I am serious, that first chapter rips my heart out every. single. time. It is unusual for a book to get you so quickly to a place that you care for the characters in such a short time. I cannot help but cry, and I am not talking about the "sniff-sniff-one-lone-tear-trickling-down-your-cheek crying, I am talking outright sobbing and bawling. My heart break for Chase, Adam, Mark and Adrian as they say good-bye possibly for the last time. And Gracie and Chase's love for each other was so young and beautiful.

I love that Gracie was this fragile, petite young woman, and at the exact same time was a brave and strong, albeit, little warrior. I cried for her when she was on the moon. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there. Her hopelessness and loss was so real. I felt it with her. Then when she met Kordon... swoon. What can I say, he was everything. I loved the way he loved her.

You have to read this one for yourself. But I read a lot of books, and sometimes I get a little tired of the usual miscommunications, the breaking-up and then reconciling, and then the possible, and sometimes actual, cheating, and the... balh, blah, blah... I read Gracie's Touch when I want a book with absolutely none of that crap.

I get a good cry; oh so cleansing. Then it gets funny as all get out; laughter is good medicine. Then some of those steamy, yummy love scenes; erotica is good for the soul (it says that somewhere, right?). It is perfect.

Thanks S.E. for writing one of my all time faves. Keep up the good work.

I really wanted to like this more. Maybe I'm burnt out on the insta-mate concept.

We have Gracie and the four men from New York that find her in the sewers after Earth has been attacked by an alien force. This group is known as the "Freedom Five" and they form a part of Earth's resistance against the invading aliens. Gracie is their John Connor, she is the voice of the people. The story of these men is actually the story that I wanted to read, they were fascinating to me. Sadly though, this was not meant to be.

I really, really liked the fleeting glimpse of the Freedom Five. I wish that Gracie could have stayed on Earth and that she and her resistance fighters could have their story told there rather than separating them. As it is this is an okay sci-fi romance with similar insta-mate tropes to others I've read. If I could have liked Gracie or Kordon perhaps the story would have resonated more with me.

I first read a book by this author about eighteen months ago and I'm ashamed to say I still have others by her sat on my kindle. Why? Well Abducting Abby had lots of sex scenes but not as much character development as I like. Still friends keep recommending her books and assure me there's a lot more polish to her work these days so happily I dove into this with expectations that truly were met!
I won't say too much about the story as the book synopsis gives away the basic premise. What I found enthralling was the heroines brave attempts to save her planet and those she loves. She's intelligent and great with computers but her Independence Day ( Gotta love Will Smith) idea about uploading a virus was inspired ! Now it does and it doesn't work out leaving the never give up Gracie in quite a quandary but the author somehow saves her life and sanity by thrusting her eight hundred years into the future! Ok yes it's probably lacking in strong scientific basis but boy does it work out for Gracie. Her distress call is finally heard and a whole new adventure begins!
There was a moment when I got teary eyed reading this. Gracie has been so brave, so strong and then her world crumbles around her. I enjoyed the romance side of the book but it was Gracie who truly pulled me in. I'm reading along and thinking well maybe my kindle is wrong and this story is nearly told and then bam, the story goes off at a whole new tangent! So surprises are in store along with scenes of hot loving but for this reader it's the heroines never say die attitude and self sacrifice, along with her humour that really impressed me. Now I need to get back to those other stories I've missed!

5 Gracie’s Touch Stars

I don’t know what it is about S.E. Smith, but she makes Aliens freaking awesome!

I can’t even I love this book, and the world she creates. Gracie is human and she ends up saving earth and a lot of other life forms.

Kordon is a unique Zion Warrior and finds himself feeling some pretty intense things toward this oddly unique human.

And Gracie adapts so well you almost forget she is human, I loved it! I can’t wait to read book 2 <3

And David Brenin’s narration is freaking fantastic he makes listening effortless.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I re-read this book for the 3rd time so I could remember what happened in the first book before I read Krac's Firebrand which is the second book to the series. (I plan on starting that right after this one.) It was good thing too, because even though the author does a quick review in the book I felt that reading the first book was better and I hate when the author takes the time to go over what happens in the previous books in detail when they should be focusing on the current book. That is why people should read the series in order unless otherwise stated! Sorry, pet peeve of mine...

I still really like this story and how it lays down the setting for the series.

Gracie and Kordon were an adorable couple. I just felt they got together too fast so there wasn't much buildup, which I always love, especially since they're two completely different species and realistically need time to adjust to each other. I love that Gracie isn't afraid to fight for the people she loves even though she probably gives Kordon so many heart attacks because of her selflessness. Kordon is also an absolute sweetheart for Gracie. If you're looking for a really light alien read with lots of action, this is the book for you!

**3.5** I love this genre so much and it pains me that we don’t have better books for it. This story was too much and yet also totally not enough at the same time. It's insta-love, and a complete cheese-fest, but I still enjoyed it. Horrible one-liners from movies like, The Terminator, Diehard, and Rush Hour.

The story begins with invading aliens rounding up the human population for parts. (They are a hybrid machine/alien and need occasional upgraded body parts). Genius 17-year-old Gracie and a select few have managed to escape alien capture. Like in the movie, Independence Day, Gracie manages to fly into space and upload a virus into the alien mother ship to safe Earth. Unfortunately for her, she’s transported over 800 years into the future! Her teenage love interest, all her family and friends are long gone. This all happens in the first chapter.

However, a hunky alien warrior is soon to find her. One sound of her voice and he knows she’s the ONE for him.

Random thoughts:
-There is some interesting knotting going on with his alien anatomy, he can knot FOUR TIMES.
-Bad form that
-Yuck on

REVIEW:

When Earth was invaded, Gracie Jones lost her family and was barely surviving in the subway tunnels when four men came to her rescue. She devoted herself to finding a way to destroy the aliens who wanted to harvest what remained of the human population. She never expected that her sacrifice would cost her everything and send her light years into the future. Three years after crash landing on a deserted moon, Gracie is finally rescued. The last thing she wanted was to fall in love with her rescuer. When the aliens who stole everything from her come back, Gracie is determined to do whatever it takes to protect her new world and the people she’s come to love.

The beginning of the books was a little slow as the author set up the world building. I was expecting a little more action and dystopian backdrop, but things picked up when Kordon arrived on the scene. I loved their first meeting! Kordon was a warrior in ever sense of the world, and I loved how completely he fell in love with Gracie. I enjoyed the action in the book, the way they worked together to defeat their enemies. The only thing that detracted a little from the fun story was how everyone seemed to immediately adore Gracie, repeatedly telling us how fragile she was despite all her actions proving otherwise. She fell in love with Kordon a little too fast for my taste, but, overall, I enjoyed this book—a great mixture of sci-fi and romance that keep me entertained throughout.

H is alien leader who falls for the human h when he hears her voice. She's young, sweet and so brave, sacrificed herself to save Earth from bad aliens. He claims her but she still has to fight for her freedom, and wait for it - from evil human man. It is a fun scifi adventure, where the poor heroine has to save herself and others, all too often. The pay off is her wonderful alien mate, and his interesting 'bits'!

Ok, this could be decent but there are so many scientific and biological mistakes in the book it's not even funny - I believe there are countless articles published about patently wrong romance clichés and any romance author ought to have read them by now. I’m taking away stars for this shit because I’m really tired of encountering them time and again. Even fanfiction writers know better by now, so I’m holding published authors to a higher standard.

No, the hymen is not covering the cervix because the penis never actually enters the womb (it would be excruciatingly painful, if that ever happened, ok), but it is located at the very opening of the vagina, usually just a small sliver of extra skin around the edges, not a full barrier one has to rip open. How else would menstrual blood ever leave the body? This stupid cliché makes my blood boil and I’m usually tempted to rage about it because it propagates this absurd idea about bloody sheets for a girl’s first time. No, there shouldn’t be more than a drop of blood if any at all; what are you guys doing in bed?!

Gracie’s computer skills and her single-handedly rescuing Earth are riddles with plot holes. I mean, where are other adults with these skills? The military certainly has some around, if not those big computer companies, survivalists and other fighters. But ok, let’s roll with this. Her tiny group manages to command the entire Earth for some reason that is not explained entirely. The story of the resistance actually has super potential and it is a shame we read so little about it.

The insta-mate cliché is slightly worn by now, but one learns to expect it in most romance stories with alien races and supernaturals. The couple could actually work out fine but it would have been nice if she didn’t just fall into his bed in her depression and was magically fixed by this. It was lazy writing on the part of the author. So they met and he’s already all over her – I’d think she’d be slightly more shocked by this after living alone for three years, no?

I’m also always surprised that very few romance heroines ever discuss protection. It just baffles me – you don’t love the person and you’re prepared to have a child by them? Really? Not to mention alien bacteria, viruses that must be floating around on space-ships. Why isn’t anything like that mentioned after she’s picked up from the moon planet? The author seriously drops the ball several times when she’s shown that she knows these things. The characterisation of male characters could be far better as well, but at least the story is short enough.

So, I'm going to call this a guilty pleasure. I enjoyed it but I also did a lot of eye-rolling.

Spoilers below***************Lots of them***********************************

Gracie is 17 years old and a freedom fighter for the last 5 years since some bad aliens invaded earth. It is apparently, current date. She's in love with one of her 4 protective brothers-in-arms who are called the freedom 5. She is known among the resistance for her uplifting broadcasts to rally the spirits of the fighters.

Gracie is ridiculously talented (emphasis on ridiculous)a computer genius, fluent in 15 languages (including the alien language) able to fly a space ship, you name it, there is nothing this plucky heroine cant do. She is even "the only one" who can fly a supply transport to the mother ship in order to upload virus's and cause the alien ship to self-destruct. That's right folks, the fate of the planet rests in her 17 year old capable hands.

After successfully uploading the viruses, her attempt to return safely to earth is halted when the mother ship attempts to follow her so she sacrifices herself by leading the ship away from earth and in the ensuing explosion winds up on a distant moon where she must fend for herself.

3 years later, Gracie is "rescued" by Kordon, an alien warrior who immediately falls in love with her. What she didn't know is that the blast had caused a rip in time and sent her 850 years into the future.

Gracie pretty much falls in love with Kordon within a few days even though she was still in love with Chance, she gets over him pretty quick.

Amazing alien sex is followed by Gracie AGAIN attempting a daring mission to save kidnapped women from the same mean aliens who had attacked earth back in her day.

Mind you, chronologically Gracie is only 20 years old. But, Oh that girl! She can charm anyone, isn't afraid of anything, can do anything!

It's just so over the top! Still, I really liked the story and Gracie was not unlikable, just too good to be true :)

(cross-posted on Amazon)

I stumbled upon this author's works and quickly devoured them, which left me hoping for new stories with more strong and intelligent women, tough but romantic men and loads of fascinating secondary characters that just demand their own tales.

So when I discovered that a new series was starting, I definitely spent the time anticipating release day, hoping that the author was going to create another story for my "favorites" collection. And she did.

The story held my attention from the introduction of Gracie in her time and Kordon in his, to their meeting and through all the ups and downs until the end was reached. Plus some very hot scenes once the two come together.

Then I had to go back and read it again. I already want to see more of Kordon's brothers and friends and Krac. And I definitely want to see more strong, independent female earthlings changing the mindsets of certain Zion warriors. Maybe others like Gracie are so busy with their lives and concerns that they don't have the time to waste flirting and chasing after Zion males.

After much debate, a 4 star rating rather than a 5. Perhaps a future story will explain how the "offspring" of the Alluthans are running around the confederacy and yet no one was aware of the Alluthan threat. How did Gracie hold onto her sanity for 3 years, most would probably have lasted only a few weeks. Still a few grammatical errors and word choices but most I didn't even notice until the second read-thru. But the author already has control of the important elements of storytelling like plot, characters and world-building. And each new story has had fewer errors than the previous one.

A very enjoyable read. Now I don't know whether to hope for another book in this series soon when I'm already waiting for upcoming releases in some of the other series.

I stumbled across this book and author through happenstance and now, S.E. Smith has went from being unknown to being on my "must buy" list. This is one of those romances that you come across once in a great while and wish it happened much more often.

The heroine, Gracie will make you laugh, cry and warm your soul. I really can't say enough about her. She is brought to life so vividly that you feel her pain and want to stand up & cheer when she manages to hold on to her hope and belief in love. Gracie is the type of person that you wish you could know, that you hope you would have the strength to be if you were in similar circumstances. If there is any problem with the book, in my opinion, it is that Gracie is such a superior character that all the others (even the hero) seem to pale in comparision.

I have already read this story twice and know I will be reading it again for many years to come. I will certainly be watching for more from this author.

I still love the writting but appart from the first big surprise regarding the time, I was left waiting for more actions and unexpected events. But they didn't happen, sadly.
And can Gracie fall in love in like hours nearly??!! I mean you think she was so into Chance, she would have trouble beginning a new relationship, especially with a non human but it felt like everything was pretty normal...
I don't know there were many small points that kept bothering me. But I woud be curious to read a sequel.

I am giving this a 5 based on the great storyline and characters. Still lots of problems with proof-reading! This time, I'm not marking down for it because the story was so good.

I would like to know how the H started out the book with the last name of 'Jefe', but ended it with the last name of 'Jeke'?????????????????

Just an ok read for me

This book had a lot of potential but I felt myself tiring of the unnecessary dialogue. At times I found myself growing bored of the plot. It just didn't work for me. I never felt emotionally invested in the characters nor storyline. Not a series I will personally be continuing.

Gracie and Murphy’s Law

The explosion in hyperspace created a rip in space sending Gracie forward in time 852 years.

I did get goosebumps once: “You are considered the Mother of Freedom for Earth and are still revered today for your skills and your sacrifice to your plant. The term Gracie’s touch is considered to be a blessing. Billions return to Earth once each year to celebrate you and the messages of love and hope you gave.”

I will say Gracie’s speech to the arrogant Earth Councilman was priceless. But, this Earth Girl was like a cat with nine lives she just refused to die. This alien story got a whole lot of 5 star reviews. Sorry, I’m just not getting that. I could list all the issues I had with storyline events, but whatever…
