What would you do? You live in small town U.S.A. You’re a typical teenager. You just have to make it through each day without horribly embarrassing yourself. You have a normal, uneventful life. You’re part of a wonderful, supportive family. Sure, your mother has the power to heal with her hands. But everyone has secrets, right? What would you do? You find out that you have a special power as well. That doesn’t make you a freak, right? It’s just one more thing you have to incorporate into your life. You just have to keep it hidden, no big deal. What would you do? Your world is about to come crashing down upon you. Just when you think you have a good bead on things. But as many of us already know, life rarely goes according to plan. What would you do?

What happens when the world of a malevolent lord of an unknown realm seeking the treasure collides wit the world of seemingly normal yet unique small town Nebraska teenagers.
Answers lie within Legacy Awakenings Vol. 1 by J. Dee Smith.
Teenage life is already hard enough just living the day to day life, but having a mother who can heal things makes it weirder. Now realize there is more to your life, it really throws a wrench into growing up.
Meanwhile a threat arises as seekers of the treasure arrive unbeknownst to your town and will soon change your life as you know it.
As you know life rarely goes according to plan. So what would you do?
In the interest of full disclosure I must say that J. Dee is my oldest and best friend on the planet. Also anyone who reads Legacy & knows me will realize that I have a deeper connection to the book then merely being J. Dee's little brother.
I do believe though that Legacy Awakenings is an unique little story about some small town/ rural teenagers that soon realize there is more to their lives then they realize. Teenage life is already hard enough but once you throw the unexpected into the mix they have to wonder are they going to do.
As the story unfolds you get a glimpse into a whole new world of creatures as they cross paths with the teenage country life and the worlds will eventually collide.
J. Dee takes you into a story with an interesting plot and lays a bit of foundation with introduction of the initial characters and worlds that will leave you wanting to know more then what the initial offering of Legacy gives you. Also you can see it is filled wit love and passion for family and an homage to friends, family and home. I can not help but wonder where future installments of the story will go from here.
With that said I must say as this is J. Dee's first novel and self published to boot there are some rough edges that truly could of been smoothed out. There will be a few moments that leave you wondering what was that for.
However I have to say I truly think the story is worth a shot. There is a world of potential waiting in the future volumes of the Legacy series. Vol 1 is a budding of J. Dee's creativity. Time and practice will and it will really begin to bloom.
If you are looking for something creative from an upstart independent author then try giving Legacy a chance.
