A delightful little quick summer read. The good guys are all very VERY good, and the bad guys are all very VERY bad. You know the good guys are going to win in the end, but it is a jolly romp to get there.

Wow. This book has so many ups and downs. It’s pretty slow paced so it took me a while getting into it but suddenly the suspense and wanting to know how it was gonna play out grabbed me and I got the last third finished up in one evening. It’s a military novel. A conspiracy type book and oh it’s so good! I recommend this to you if you like fiction that reads as fact and is very detailed. The books are written by a former Marine so I have to wonder how much of the book is really fictional. I loved this book tho not quite as much as the first one. Now I want to read the third one but I’ve decided to wait on it since I don’t want to be in the middle of another 600 pager. Lol. Absolutely love Peter and Rachel. The storyline in this one was great, all the twists and perfect plans not being so perfect after all was great. And because these books read so much like nonfiction I couldn’t help but be scared there wouldn’t be a happy ending. But things basically worked out in the end, some of the bad guys are still on the loose (whyyyyy can’t these guys die?) At least Komulakov is disposed of, tho I didn’t expect him to get killed by his own partner. I guess Dotensk did what Peter couldn’t. I do wish Dotensk hadn’t gotten away and they still haven’t discovered who the spy is!! 😭 Well hopefully they do in the third book.

It's just not my cup of tea. I only bought the book so I could meet Oliver North at a signing in Oak Brook. I had reasons, but reading his book wasn't one of them. I just figured I'd read it since I had it. I'm not generally a fan of thrillers, at least not in book form. They don't work for me. I don't mind them in movie form. They can be fun sometimes. But it takes a great writer to get me into such a book. Ian Fleming could do it, but very few others can. North (and his ghost writer) couldn't.

The Jericho Sanction (Peter Newman, #2) by Oliver North Oliver North

Boring with tons of military abreviations and implied insight. The story gets lost within the military jargon. It's too bad, it's not a bad plot and story.

Re-reading this on date above. Earlier reading took place just after the Iran Contra Hearings.
Wish he had written more.

We continue to follow Lt. Col. Peter Newman's struggle to keep peace in
the Middle East. Looks like Israel is the intended target of nuclear
weapons this time.

Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North’s second novel. He’s actually a very good author – not some celebrity shlock cashing in on a famous name. I read his first book many years ago (this one was released 13 years prior to when I read it. He’s written several more since) and I was pleasantly surprised by that effort as well.

This is one of those “continuing character” books. The hero in this novel is present in most, if not all, of North’s efforts. Not surprisingly, with a guy like Oliver North writing a book, you can kind of guess the subject matter: Military, espionage, terrorists, the Middle East, preventing nuclear war, etc. etc. etc.

Although this is a good book, I confess that I found nothing particularly dynamic or fresh in it. Maybe I’ve read too many Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn novels. This one doesn’t deviate from the formula. You pretty much know everything that’s going to happen. In addition to the above mentioned cliché subject matters, the plot really isn’t that original either. We have Russians illegally selling Iraq nukes, clandestine operatives in the Middle East (with not one, but two aliases), a kidnapping, a clueless inept American congress and President, and therefore, a rogue agent who doesn’t “follow the rules”.

Oliver North tends to get a tad too preachy in his books. It’s not that I have a problem with his beliefs or sentiments – I actually find such attitudes refreshing, but North lays it on his readers rather thick. There are quite a few diversions within the book where one character will ask another something like “So tell me about your belief in Jesus again…”. And North will spend the next few pages conducting a mini sermon. I found it a tad too pedantic and can’t help feeling that an unconverted reader won’t be swayed, yet only highly annoyed. He did this in his first book as well. Well, it is better than reading about grouchy secularists. Anyway…. On a related note, I didn’t find the book “overly political” either. And for that, I’m very grateful.

I imagine one would really like this book if you’re somewhat new to the genre, or if you really like modern military stories. It’s very good, just not very original.

Dang good story.....

Must say, Oliver North, you are a superior writer. You too, Joe Musser. The story is all tied up by the end. Doesn't seem to be anything left out. The characters, situation, dialogue are all interesting, keeps you turning pages long after eyes have started to shut down for the night. Looking forward to more stories. Thanks,Amarillo Turtle

This is a very serious and mature book. But it taught me a lot about history and the wars in the Middle East. I found this book very interesting because it shows the life of people in the military and the FBI. It is very inspirational so I recommend it to pretty much everyone in middle school and above.

A strong follow up to the debut novel with more entertaining and exciting exploits provided by Peter Newman. This series is a cut above most others in the genre and on par with the best efforts by Vince Flynn.

Good book

This is the second I have read this book. It is a fast pace book. It took me 3 days to read. When you start to read this book, time will slip away. I am very excited to read the third book. I really like the story is told.

Plot Summary: What happens, When & Where, Central Characters, Major Conflicts[return]Peter Newman is called out of hiding by General Grisham. Not only is his and his wife Rachel's cover being compromised, there are also rumors that Iraq has 3 nuclear weapons. Grisham wants Peter to go on a hunt for the nukes, but before he can leave his wife and her best friend are kidnapped. Newman teams up with the Israeli security guy who is the husband of the other missing woman to try to find them. But a phone call reveals that Peter's old enemy, a Russain Ex-KGB guy, has kidnapped them to force Peter to uncover a mole in the US for him.[return][return][return][return][return][return][return]Style Characterisics: Pacing, clarity, structure, narrative devices, etc.[return]Very lengthy with lots going on and loads of details about military and security procedures. It took a while to get going but once the kidnapping happened the suspense started to really flow. There are some improbabilities, but not enough to mar this as an entertaining and suspenseful read. The behind the scenes looks at the military gadgets that Israel has and the explanation of how they would be willing to use their nuclear weapons was very illuminating.[return][return][return][return][return][return][return]How Good is it?[return]The Best part is the "Insider" details about how things work in the military, security, and political realms.

Oliver North writes differently, in a good way. Very learned in this niche. The elements are pieced together nicely, an enjoyable read.

Excellent book, this book had me captivated from the beginning. I've seen Ollie's books for a while and was skeptical about picking them up, I guess because I've been spoiled by the likes of Don Brown, and Dee Henderson. Being a Christian and veteran I love reading military Christian fiction. The characters were well developed, and the story line could have been taken from the news headlines today. I think that is why the book draws you in and is hard to put down.

I think that I like this one better than Mission Compromised. In this one, you find out what happened to minor characters from the previous book, which was nice, since there were some minor characters that I would have hated to see killed. It was also a sad book. But even with sad parts, I still liked it.

A very good book. It is great to read a great thriller/espionage book with a Christian base and not all the swearing and sex and other stuff. Mr. North wrote a great three book series, "Mission Compromised", "Jericho Sanction", and "The Assassins" and I enjoyed reading them all.

Another thrilling adventure with Peter Newman in the Middle East. This is a continuation of the story started in Mission Compromised. To get the full flavor of the story, the reader should read Mission Compromised first.
