Twice Round the Clock is a book by George Augustus Sala that explores the daily life and activities in London at different hours of the day and night. The book provides a vivid and humorous description of the different people, places, and events that make up the city's bustling scene, from the bustling streets and busy markets to the quiet parks and secluded alleyways. Throughout the book, Sala presents a unique and entertaining perspective on the city, offering insights into its social, cultural, and economic landscape.
Sala has a wonderfully entertaining writing style, and the book's format (a tour of a different part of 19thc London at each hour of the day and night) is fascinating. I don't know why more people haven't heard of/read this book.
Salsa does like to show off his flowery language and his extensive vocabulary but he does give a fantastic detailed insight into the day to day life of Victorians.
