3.5 stars - Giving this book 4 stars would be a bit excessive when compared to other art books, but it would be a 4 stars if it was categorised as a 'starter book' . This is not an excellent book but it is a fine one, which I specially recommend to those who want to increase their knowledge of Italian art, appreciate Tiziano (Titian), and want to acquire a more in-depth knowledge of him and his art. This book offers good quality illustrations, fluid writing, and it is very affordable.
Aesthetically pleasing, this book displays captivating illustrations accompanied by detailed descriptions of Tiziano’s paintings, which helps the reader gain a more insightful understanding of the works showcased in this book. This book also provides a fluid and solid description of Tiziano’s life, his development as an artist, and the society in which he lived.
One of the issues with this book is the formatting. I also believe it could have been better organised. Moreover, even though most illustrations were large, a few were too small, thus, I didn’t see the need for their inclusion. Lastly, I believe that the number of portraits displayed in this book could have been fewer, this would have given the author the chance to explore more interesting works created by Tiziano.
Overall, this is a good starting book for those who are still becoming familiar with Tiziano’s work.
