Love Lost by Maria Desouza isn’t your typical Romance. I warn you if you want a mushy, gooey, sticky sickly sweet love, you won’t find it here, but… what you will find is something sooo much better! This author has a flow that draws you in from page one. Each scene is written with true passion, and executed with style. The love is deep, the hate is deeper and the crazy…it crossed the line straight to insane and I loved every second of it.

Maria Desousa, has created characters that you will fall in love with from Jason, the sexy detective to Selene, the confident layer. You will even love Lucio the villain of all villains, or should I say (love to hate) him, the mad man who will stop at nothing to ruin anything good that enters Selene’s life, and yes my friend, that includes Jason. Every character has a story and the author invites you in to view things from the perspective of each of the main characters, giving you a chance to see the story unravel and the plot thicken.

While reading through Jason’s perspective you will find that he is a true leading man and I see him being one that the ladies are going to talk about for years to come. He is sexy, strong and he knows how to take care of his leading lady. He is passionate and his love goes to his very core. He will bring out emotions in you that you couldn’t even imagine, leaving you wanting more.

Then we have Selene, Selene’s story is complicated and heartbreaking, but her strength and courage makes for a fantastic heroine. You will root for her and cry for her, maybe even want to throw your reading device as things unfold (in a good way).

Maria also gives us a rare opportunity to look behind the veil to the thoughts of a maniac and honestly I have to say (call me crazy) some of these moments were my absolute favorite. There was no sugar coating; just plain deep crazy that I feel so many books could use when it comes to making a true villain.

All in all even though it is very early in the year, I am confident that this book is going to be on my top 5 of the year and Maria Desouza is going to be one of my very favorite authors. So to all of you that are reading this review, do yourself a favor and go GET LOST in Love Lost!

Quick read that forces you to turn the page. Jason & Selene have a fast paced romance. I wanted more for them, but you'll have to read the story to find out why. Loved it! Great start to a promising series.

Yes, yes and yes! Selene and Jason are two characters that I immediately enjoyed. I loved seeing their conversations, hesitations, and overall path to fall in love. MD's writing style brought the characters and the scenarios to life. As in there were a few times I wanted to be like nooo just talk to each other, really TALK about what is going on, how your feel, etc...just do it! As a reader I was able to see what the other characters couldn't see and it was genius how MD brought that awareness to Selene and Jason.

For me this was the perfect blend of a romance and suspense. There were times I thought I knew what was going to happen, but either the method was different from what I expected or I was completely wrong! Along with Selene and Jason we meet several friends and family members that are very well developed and I can't wait to learn more about them. When Selene's friend encounters Selene's monster my mouth dropped open in shock. I did not see that coming. Jason's friend Vin led me through the wringer of emotions. For most of the story I thought he was maybe one of the biggest jerks I had read about in a while, but then...oh then..we see the actions he takes for certain people and I completely changed my thoughts about him. By the end of the book/preview of the next I loved Vin's character and hope to read his story soon!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I am starting to pay more attention to the cover of books. I think this cover is a fantastic portrayal of Jason! I enjoyed this book a great deal and loved the fast pace, overall energy, emotions and what can only be called a doozy of a cliffhanger.

What to say about this book. This is definitely not your everyday boy meet girl and they fall in love. They have to fight against the nightmare that has consumed Selena’s life. There is plenty of thrilling twist and turns throughout the book. It will keep your eyes glued to the pages turning them until the very end.

Maria’s way with the characters was captivating. Not only do you fall in love with them but the story that they go through is heart breaking. I have to admit that I did shed a tear or two.

Selena was such an amazing character, as more of her story is revealed. She is a strong determined woman even after having lived through horrible things in her childhood then another nightmare as a young adult. She became an attorney so that she had a way to fight to put her nightmare away for life.

Jason, funny sexy detective, I do think I feel in love with him from page 1. He is a detective that has never truly loved before but a chance encounter with Selena all of that changes. He feels things for her and will do anything to protect her, now that she is his life.

As the story progresses and we finally meet the nightmare from Selena’s past, Lucio, who you will want to hate with a passion for the pure evil that he is. Lucio is obsessed with Selena, doing anything he can to hurt her in the process of trying to get her back in his arms.

I can not wait to read the next book in this series and yes it did leave off at a bit of a cliffhanger but wow what a punch to get us excited about the next book!!

“Love can come into your life in an instant and leave just as quickly...”
“Can they handle the truth about each other? Can love truly conquer all or is there a limit?”
Jason Straiz is a detective first and foremost. He takes his duty to serve and protect serious and he has never made time for relationships. Until, Selene comes along and turns his world upside down. She consumes his every thought and he longs for all that she invokes in him.

Selene is a no nonsense lawyer. She carefully guards her heart given that she has been to Hell and back. When Jason comes into her life, she questions whether or not she can handle all that he makes her feel. Happiness has been short lived in her life and she is unsure if she is willing to risk putting Jason in harm’s way.

When Jason and Selene first meet it’s as if fate is on their side. But they soon realize that the case they are working could be one in the same, and that would be a conflict of interest. They have to make tough decisions about their safety and livelihood. Will they make the right one or will they choose the one that rips apart everything they hold near and dear?

The heroine is so beautifully written that your heart bleeds for her and all that she has endured in her life. I admired Selene. She is strong, independent, and not afraid to take what she wants. Jason is what every girl dreams about rough around the edges but romantic. His passion for his work and family are a quality that draw you to him.

I have never read a book where the villain was written so good that I shuddered at the things he has done and plans to do. The way Maria writes him is like she took him straight out of the depths of hell. He is what nightmares are made of. He is pure EVIL. He is the best villain ever.

Love Lost is Maria DeSouza’s first novel. She is a new up and coming author that I feel everyone should read. It is a well written page turner that will have you on the edge of your seat. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I give it 5 STARS. If the scale went higher I would give it higher. This book will go down in my Top 5 of 2014.

I was given a complimentary copy by the Author for an honest review on A Literary Perusal Blog.

This is the first book in the Love Lost Series and also the authors debut book. Maria did not disappoint my expectations. She exceeded them and so much more. This is Sel and Jay's story and you immediately love the connection they have. The title is held up in the writing because love is lost in the book, in more ways than one. You are constantly on the edge of your seat by most of the chapters end and you cannot wait to see what will happen next. The story flows great, the characters are well developed, and you will definitely want to keep reading this series as the next installment come out. One little warning, when you fall in love with one character and claim him as yours or your favorite, you might just flip flop by the end lol. I can't wait for the next in this series. Congratulations to Maria for her first release and for doing an amazing job. Can't wait to read many more from you.

WOW, where do I start?? Love Lost had me on the edge of my chair throughout most of it. I felt for Selene and all she has been through, yet she was still so strong and focused on what she felt she had to do. Jason is just yummy!!! I loved his personality and how he interacted with his family. He treats Selene like she truly deserved to be treated!! Oh Lucio, Lucio, Lucio... I have plans for you that involve lots of pain!!!! I enjoy when I don't see certain things coming and this happened a few times. Granted, some of the things that happened I wish didn't and made me want to cry for the pain the characters had to go through. The only thing that I wanted to scream about what the cliffhanger.... I didn't want it to end. I want to know what happens NOW!!!!!! I'm super impatient like that though :). I seriously cannot wait until the next book and recommend this to anyone who loves a sexy thriller!!!!

When I started reading Love Lost, I wasn't really prepared for the roller coaster of emotions I was going to go through. The characters are written so realistically that you feel as if you are watching this story unfold. I love drama and this book packs a whole lot into it. Jason Straiz, the main character is gritty and real but also you get to see a soft side he really hides due to his job as a cop. Selene Mendez is a smart, beautiful attorney who, as fate would have it, lands in the path of Jason just when it seems she needs him most. What follows is a whirlwind of situations leaving you turning pages as fast as your e-reader will allow. I don't do spoilers but suffice to say, you will be freaking out by the end of the book!!! I look forward to the next in the series!!! Excellent debut for Ms. DeSouza!

This was an excellent book. I was hooked from the beginning. Who doesn't love a hot detective! Jason is a hot homicide detective who bumps into Selene, a lawyer, at the coffee shop. They are immediately attracted to each other. Jason and Selene's lives are connected and they don't even know it. There is lots of love, danger and devastation in this book. You will not want to put this book down once you start. My only complaint is that I have to wait for the next book to see how everything works out in the end!

Love Lost was a quick, compelling read that I enjoyed immensely. The plot was very intriguing and the writing flows nicely. For a short story I did become connected to the character’s and would love to see more to their storyline. Jason is a sexy “manly” man while Selene is courageous and strong-willed and their charisma is memorable. And let’s not forget Lucio who’s picture should be next to Villain in the dictionary.

Well done Ms. DeSouza, I’m anticipating more of your work!

I made the mistake of only skimming the reviews before purchasing this book and wasn't aware it was a cliffhanger until I got to the end. So heads up!!! It's a nasty one and I nearly threw my precious Kindle across the room.

Selene is an District Attorney who is after Lucio, a major criminal she has a past with and who hurt her terribly. One day on her way to work, she meets Jason, a police detective. Jason and Selene soon began dating and grow close quickly. They are perfect together. Unfortunately, Selene doesn't tell Jason about the case she is pursuing until it's too late. It's the same one he is working on, and her being honest could have helped everyone and saved a number of lives.

I can't really go into much more about what happened without providing major spoilers. I will tell you that I hated Lucio with a deep passion! The man is pure evil. Jason, I loved. He is a wonderful man and what happens to him just breaks my heart. I really need Book 2.

This story has a lot of action with twists, turns and secrets. There is clean romance between the main characters, and you can feel the emotions they share. I wasn't able to find a release date for the next book, but hope it'll be released ... yesterday.

I love Jay and Sel's story!
Sel has been done wrong since she was a child. She devoted her life to becoming a lawyer to make sure the bad guys are put away. She finds herself in danger, though she doesn't seem to realize just how much danger. She meets Jay and they hit it off great.

Jay is an officer who loves his family. He isn't looking for love or a relationship as his job keeps him pretty busy. Then he runs into Sel and that all changes. He is drawn to her.

These two embark in a relationship with a lot of twist and turns, and danger lurks at every corner. Sel makes new friends in his family, and Jay is finally learning what love really is. He will have to fight to keep Sel, unless fate steps in and changes the game all together.

I can not wait for the next book in this series!

Solid 3* from me as the plot and characters were intriguing but it just didn't hold my attention enough.

Jason is a good honest cop who every woman would want to meet but after being burned before he's a little wary to let his heart love freely but a chance meeting with a beautiful lawyer gives him hope.

Selene went for the worst type of bad boy in her teens and now she's paying the price for that romance. He wants his vengence and she knows getting people involved will only end badly but meeting Jason seems like fate.

There was alot of promise in this book but the characters interractions seemed flat and didn't draw me into their situations or emotions making me feel disconnected from the story. It was easy to read but didn't compell me to continuously stick with it.

I love to read suspense stories with believable action and this one fits the bill. The twist and turns keep you turning the pages until the end. Tragedy that makes you stronger for living each day but an understanding of family and friends help you through.

Selene Mendez is trying to escape a horrifying past. She hopes that by bringing down the bad guys, she will be able to rid herself of years of fear.
Jason Straz is an NYPD cop whose blood runs blue. The epitome of what a NY Cop should be, Jason loves his job and takes it very seriously. He doesn’t have much time for girls, except the occasional fling. That is until he meets Selene.
A chance encounter at the coffee shop sets Selene and Jason on a similar path, unbeknownst to them. Will Jason be able to help Selene forget her past or are they both fighting a losing battle? If Lucio Cardoso has anything to say about it their battle will be a bloody one.
Who is this Lucio Cardoso and what is his connection to Selene and Jason. All we know is that he is the devil. Not even in disguise, just pure evil. There was a part of me that WANTED Lucio to be good, deep down inside, but I can’t see how any good can come out of a man like him.
I LOVED this book. Selene is a strong female character, even with her past hardships and Jason is an amazing male character. I love that Maria didn’t give in to the typical character stereotypes of the romance genre. Her characters were strong and real and that was refreshing to see.
This book took me on a ride from beginning to end. I found myself laughing, crying and getting angry along with the characters. I can’t wait to see what Maria has in store for us next. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who likes a little suspense with their romance.

Love Lost is a romantic suspense novella by Maria DeSouza. It is told in 3 POVS, Jason and Selene, and Lucio who is determined to have Selene back his life one way or another.

Selene is a lawyer and and is determined and passionate about trying to bring Lucio to the justice he deserves. Lucio is pure evil in this book and will go to any lengths to get Selene back into his life where he thinks she belongs. I loved the character development of him, and haven't found myself hating a character as much as I do Lucio.

Jason is a Detective with the NYPD and is tasked with going undercover and trying to get involved in Lucio's world to bring him down from the inside. He and Selene meet in a coffee shop one day and the attraction is instant. But as they start out with their relationship, they have Lucio to contend with and his attempts to get Selene and get Jason out of her life for good.

This is a short and quick and read that even though ends in a cliffhanger, you will want the rest of the story. Maria DeSouza writes characters that are strong and determined and in the case of Lucio, very twisted and dark. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone who loves the romantic suspense genre. Some topics brought up in the story can be hard for some to digest but it gives the story the core of what the main characters of Jason and Selene are doing, to bring down the one and only Lucio.

description

What the flipping fruitcake Cliffy. Ugh.

So I really enjoyed this book, I liked the plot and the flow of the story. I thought everything From Selene to Jason even to Lucio it was all mended together well. There relationship (Selene and Jason) was believe able because they didn't fall for each other in one day lol but in a good couple months. Jason was a great male lead, he was adorable and into Sel and u can tell her genuine felt for her. bad ass cop btw! Sexiness.

What I didn't enjoy to much was that there was barely any emotions. I felt at times that I was just reading sentences and I didn't totally believe some of the things that went down. Let's just say that if someone I was close with died I would've been crazy, and I felt like that didn't transpire well enough. I also felt with the ending that things shouldn't have been given up so fast. That was a bit of a shocker I just thought more would've come to it.

The cliffy was out of nowhere but I'm interested to find what will happen in the next installment. Overall great job from the author.

Love Lost is the first novella in the Love Lost series & the author's debut book. This is a great, quick read that is action packed and will have you turning pages to find the answers to what is haunting Selene.

Selene is a smart, strong, & determined woman despite all of the horrible things she endured in her childhood & then again as a young adult. She became an attorney to build a case & put her nightmare away forever.

Jason is a funny, sexy, detective. He meets Selene at a local coffee shop. In the past he has never been in love but once Selene is in his life he will risk everything to protect her.

Lucio is evil; pure & simple. He has always been evil & doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities; I hated him from the start. He is obsessed with Selene & doesn't seem to care if he hurts her in his quest to make her his again.

Love Lost is not your typical romance; you follow Jason & Selene as they fight for their relationship despite Lucio's attempts to get Selene back in his life.

This was a great debut for Maria DeSouza & I look forward to the second book in the series. BTW the ending is a major cliffhanger...leaving you with the question is Selene & Jason's Love Lost??

Love Lost, where do I start? There was a point while reading that I only wanted to give it three stars. This is a fast paced story, for me, sometimes it was a little too fast. I would've liked a little more detail is some scenes. The lack of contractions in the dialoge sometimes drove me nuts but that's just me. Kind of a pet peeve. There were times that I couldn't put it down. A few times, I didn't want to pick it up again. BUT, I'm glad I did!
Jason and Selene are one of those couples that you just love to read about. Love at first sight turned into the love of a lifetime. The ending had an unexpected surprise and it's definately a cliffhanger. I know that Selene is a strong woman that will survive the position that she's in now. Man, I really feel for her. She's in a living hell right now!! I have confidence that Jason and his brothers, (along with others) will find away to help her. Jason has all the right stuff to be her hero and savior.
DeSousa has created two strong characters with a whole lot of potential! I'm looking foward to seeing what happens in book two, Lost Soul. This is really a Goodread!! Thanks Maria!!!

Maria does a great job with this book and I think it is an awesome first novel. Whenever you read that a book is going to be about a cop and a lawyer, it can always go one of two ways, at least for me: good cop/bad lawyer or bad lawyer/good cop. I had my doubts at first, but as a reader I am happy that Maria decided to have them fight the same battle.
Love Lost is full of passion, angst, heartbreak and a little bit of humor. I love Jason’s sarcastic remarks and I love how, despite her past, Selene is a strong female character. We don’t see many of those in this genre, so it was refreshing that the author decided to make both the male and female characters equally strong.
Let’s get to the bad guy. There was a part of me that wanted Lucio to be a good guy. No shot! He is the devil and I can’t wait to read his story and see what Maria has in store for us.
Overall, I think Love Lost was a great book and I love that this story was different than others that I have read. I love a great romance, but I also like when there is a back story, and Love Lost has that. I am looking forward to reading Hidden Heart and getting to know Vin better. 

What an action packed read!! It kept me entertained for a couple of hours, with its multiple plot twists and turns. So with Jason, a police detective, and Selena, a lawyer, after the same suspected criminal but they don't know this, there is plenty of opportunity for secrets and misunderstandings. With Lucio, the evil trafficker and murderer, much more determined to take Selena for his own and therefore put an end to Jason's life, there are lots of near misses and hits as other people get caught in the crossfire.

At times Jason and Selena frustrated me as they kept secrets from each other in a misguided attempt to keep the other safe. While their love story was sweet, it is the secrets that nearly destroy them.

This book touches on the evil business that Lucio is involved in but doesn't really go into it in any great depth, used as more of plot tool than as a subject to raise awareness or as central to the plot.

It was a highly enjoyable read but frustrating at times. As the first in the series I'm looking forward to seeing where this story leads.

What an amazing debut book and start to a series that is going to be fantastic!!

I was given this book for an honest review and I LOVE it. Can't wait to see what comes next.

This is not your typical love story. There is tons of adventure. Some bad things done to and innocent girl and a sexy, funny detective.

I feel in love with Selena and Jay from the very beginning.

Selena is a smart, independent woman who has managed to be strong and fight for others even after living the horrors that she did.

Jay is the funny, smart detective that is not looking for a relationship but when he gets coffee dumped on him things in his life take a change.

Lucio is just plain evil and he wants Selena back in his evil clutches.

Selena and Jay must fight for not only their lives but the relationship they never knew they wanted.

There is so much I could say about this great book but I really don't to give anything away. Read it and you will love it!! I can't wait until the next book!!!

Selene is running from her old boyfriend that was bad news to beginning with and she is trying to help build a case so that they can lock him up for good and she can breath again. with help from others she feels confident that she can succeed. but Lucio has other plans. Jason on the other hand every day puts the bad guys away for a living. detective so did faith put him in her path for what was to come next. the author out did her self and it was full of excitement and action. can Jason be enough to help Selene.

When I read a book I judge it like this:
5 stars= LOVE it! Couldn't put it down and the story was amazing. I scream from the mountain tops for my friends to read it!
4 stars = Really like it. There was just something missing to where I wasn't in love, or there was something that bugged me. I would probably tell my friend to read it. If I thought they would like that kind of story.
3 stars= It was ok. It isn't bad, but I just felt "meh" while reading it and wouldn't recommend it to my friends
2 stars= I just really didn't like the book. Some books have really annoying characters, nothing at all happens, or I just dont feel connected to the characters so I dont want to keep reading. And if I dont feel connected then reading becomes a chore. I would not recommend these books to a friend. Or enemy

Great start to a brand new series! Selene has been abused by an ex-boyfriend. She had to leave her native country but in now she's an ADA putting away the bad guys and she almost has enough evidence to bring Lucio down.

Jason is an NYPD Detective who just got told by his captain that he will be going under cover against Lucio. When a dead body shows up the clues lead to Selene. But Jason can't believe she could be involved.

Selene and Jason are both working towards the same end but can they trust each other enough to get Lucio before it's too late? And what about the budding relationship between them?

This story catches you from the very beginning! Jason and Selene heat up the pages and Lucio is the devil himself!! I can't wait to read the next installment!

Love Lost is a good romantic suspense novel. The detective and the lawyer, Jason and Selene, meet in a coffee shop, accidental spillage occurs. Attraction is pretty instantaneous, but each has their problems and debate letting anyone get close; especially Selene, as her past haunts her...or stalks her. Lucio, her ex, has an obsession, a warped and twisted obsession, with Selene. With money and power behind him, he's a threat to be reckoned with. Love Lost is a well-written, fluid novel. I found Selene's responses to Daphne's death and Lucio's stalking, the lengths he was prepared to go, a little off, but all in all it was a great read. Lucio's 'whole lot of crazy' was very well done. And the way it ended...well, bring on the next one!

I loved the law enforcement/mystery part of this book! The details were as accurate as they could be for the storyline. I thought the romance was a bit rushed, but then again there’s only so many pages to work with in books. The characters were believable, and I was invested in the story. When I had to stop reading, I found myself thinking what may happen next in the story. I am not a fan of cliffhangers, so I naturally hated the ending. The writing was good, but there were times when the details seemed excessive and detracted from the scene. Overall, if you like mystery with a solid romance, this is a good book. If you dislike cliffhangers like I do, you may want to wait to read this until the next installment is scheduled for release.
