Sometimes, I crave for just a light read. If you are like me, reading 3-4 books at a time, you will understand me. This book has been a perfect fit for my light read time.

Lacey is given a test from Godmother Academy to be a fairy godmother for Gina. If Lacey doesn't find Gina's true love and get her married by Friday, Gina will be miserable for the rest of her life and Lacey will be hated by everyone forever. Lacey has no choice, but to agree. She knows Gina is her best friend, Sunny's mom, who is not ready to come out of her house, still dejected over her recently cancelled wedding. Even with her friends, Sunny and Paige, ready to help, Lacey is not sure this is not going to work. But, then things start interesting, when an unexpected proposal comes up to Gina..

Lacey and her friends are one awesome team. And then there is Katarina, who is checking on Lacey on her godmother performance. There is Scott, Gina, Lacey's parents - I can keep naming all the characters in this novel and keep telling them I loved them. There is not even one character that I don't like and that itself is great and awesome.

The authors had built up a perfect regular children's mix with the right amount of fun, action and humour. It works well for this light read. The mistakes that Lacey makes every time, like making herself and her friends wear a bridal dress for a whole day, made me love her more. Lacey is kind, friendly, loyal and true to herself. Overall, she is a perfect protagonist for this novel.

Did I mention that the occasional illustrations are cute as well? It is. When you need a little break, the illustrations fills in your imaginations.

Although this seems like a series, I loved it perfectly as a stand-alone.

This is a great time-out from your busy day. Fast, humorous, romantic and fun-filled middle grade novel, perfect both for kids and adults.

It's more a 3.5
I liked how bright and vibrant the voice is in the book.
Lacey will grab your attention and won't let go until the story is over. She was given the task or finding Gina her true love and have her married in less than a week. Wow!
There is an insane (I'm using it lightly) amount of mayhem and stakes are so high you can't help but wonder how a clumsy 12 year-old fairy godmother in training can solve it all. Luckily things don't always go as she plans them and some disasters turned out to be not so disastrous.

There is some light romance in the book. And I didn't care for it. I'm one of those old fashioned people who think 12 year-old is too young for boyfriend girlfriend things. But it was light and definitely not the main focus.

The reason why I couldn't rate this book any higher is because I've read something similar before and there was no surprising twists for me. However it can still be fun to read because curiosity will keep you from putting the book down. Also you have malicious bugs, thousands of frogs, a wedding gown that comes with its own pillar attached to it, and so much more.

Since I haven't had the chance to read book one yet, I think I'm still going to give it a try. I need to know how Lacey got roped into the fairy godmother business in the first place, because it brings nothing but trouble. And a lot of it.

When I took a chance on winning this book in a Goodreads giveaway, I felt very 50/50 about my chances of liking it as I love magic but have no interest in romance.
I felt the book started out a bit slow after the prologue, but as it begins with a marriage this might have been due to my lack of interest in the subject. For the first few chapters I was also having trouble getting interested in the characters as I couldn't relate to the main character.
It took a little time, but the combination of magical screw ups, funny moments and learning more about the characters eventually brought me into the story. Had this book had a different focus than on love, I actually think I might have given the book four stars in the end.
As I didn't read any of the other books in this series I feel it is worth mentioning that you don't need to have read book one to fully understand and enjoy this one. Even while it does a good job standing alone, there are mentions of past events. I didn't feel these moments revealed enough to be considered spoilers to anyone who hasn't read the first book but were interesting enough for the reader to want to read it. I definitely plan to go backwards and read book one then read the rest of the series after that.

I am always a little concerned when I pick up the sequel without reading the first book. In the case of The Magic Mistake - I needn't have worried! It's perfect on it's own. I loved the cute plot, and how light it was. It was definitely a fun read!

The story is about a girl (Lacey) who is chosen to be a fairy god other in training. In order to pass the test, she needs to help her best friends mom find her one true love and get married -- all in 6 days! It seems impossible, but she has help with Katarina, a fairy godmother who helps her and a magic wand! Unfortunately, magic hijinks occur and lead Lacey and her friends on a really wild ride.

If you want a light, fun, cute read, I suggest you pick up this book! It's perfect for tween girls.

A copy of this book was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I like it. It was really interesting. I don’t want to take away the suspense by giving you the story. You should read it yourself.

My favorite part was when Lacey managed to complete her assignment, and that Katarina managed to convince Augustina to let her home school Lacey, instead of sending her to the Fairy Godmother Academy for a hundred years. My least favorite part was when Lacey kept casting spells, trying to make things better, even though they actually made things way worse. My favorite charcter was Katarina, because even though she was sometimes a little bit mean, she was loyal and helpful the whole time. My least favorite character was Dwight, because he was very mean, and sneaky, doing what he did.

It is a cute story about a girl who is being a trial fairy godmother. She is trying to make a fairy tale wedding for her best friends mom, but things start going all wrong.

Oh My Godmother: The Magic Mistake is from the Oh My Godmother Series written by cat lovers, Barbara Brauner and James Iver Mattson. This duo work well together! And, I believe they will be successful with this new series.

If you like Tinker Bell or fairies then the Oh My Godmother: The Magic Mistake could be right up your alley! It is a contemporary fairytale written with middle schoolers in mind. But I must admit, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so much fun to read! It made me laugh and cry. Seriously!

Middle School and Magic Don't Mix

Tap! Tap! Tap! It's Katarina Sycorax, a three-inch fairy godmother, seeking out twelve year old Lacey Unger-ware to be an apprentice for the Godmother's League of Fairies. What an honor! Um, no!!! The horror of it all is that she must attend the academy for one hundred years. She'll be separated from her family and friends, not to mention her cat Julius. If she refuses, she could be cursed forever. What's a girl to do? What a nightmare! To top it off, Lacey must complete a test to help one special lady find her true love and arrange the whole wedding before the deadline. Lacey and her entourage of best friends gather together to help her before time runs out. Unknowingly they try to help her. They have no idea Lacey may disappear from their lives forever.

Oh My Godmother: The Magic Mistake is a wonderful story jam packed full of adventure, fun and friendship. I think your young adult will enjoy every page. It is age appropriate and good clean fun.

I received this book through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

This book arrived at my house a few minutes after I finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The Night Circus is some pretty deep stuff, and it makes you think a lot, so after reading over 350 pages of that, I was definitely ready to pick up something lighter and easier. This book was perfect.
I was a little worried that this book might be too cheesy for my tastes, but it wasn't. There were parts that made me laugh out loud, and not because it was so bad that it was funny, it was really funny! I really liked the characters in this book, especially Katarina, the assistant fairy. She was sarcastic and lovable.
This book is the second book in a series, and I think it is done really well. I haven't read the first book, so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to understand everything, but the situation was explained really well. It let people who hadn't read the first book get caught up quickly, and it was done in a way that if you had read the first book, you wouldn't be bored while you skimmed through 5-10 of a plot summary of the last book. After reading this book, I'd definitely be interested in continuing on with this cute, middle-grade series.
Though this book is middle-grade, I think kids of all ages could enjoy it. While I read it, I could picture the funny banter and witty one-liners being translated into a Disney movie or TV show. Who doesn't love sticky situations that can (hopefully) be solved with a little bit of magic?

This is a terrific book for any young lady (probably 6-14) to read and or to be read a couple chapters a night too! I'm 63 and just fell in love with the characters, the plot - the scenes. "The Magic Mistake" was so very good that I'm going to go get the first in the series and watch for more to come out! I was sorry when the story ended and purposely dawdled reading it, just because it has heart - great read! The illustrations were delightful! My copy is going to my local library so that more children can enjoy it, then if it sits on my bookshelf! The illustrations were delightful!

Twelve year-old Lacey Unger-Ware thought that she was done with her magical godmother duties when tiny fairy godmother, Katarina flies back into her life. Katarina arrives with an invitation for Lacey to attend the Godmother Academy where she will be expected to study up on godmother-ly magic for a hundred years. It's an invitation that Lacey can't refuse. If she does, she will be cursed forever.
Lacey accepts the offer and is challenged with a magical task to test her godmother mettle. She must find the one true love for someone very special and arrange the perfect wedding - all before the end of the week! And this is just the beginning because Lacey will also need to deal with a buzzing swarm of pinch bugs, a cranky fairy, a best friend that is totally in the dumps, a cute boy trying to get her attention, a basketball team in need of a star player, a father with dreams of a coordinated daughter, and a few magical spells that haven't been, well, the best ideas she's ever had. But this is one little magical chic that does not give up. She jumps in to do the right thing by everyone and does so in the most hopeful manner. You will cringe, you will cheer, and OMG...you will laugh!

Just when things were getting back to normal the fairy godmother, Katrina is back on the scene. This time with an invitation for Lacey to attend Godmother Academy and become one of them. This invitation is not without its drawbacks though. The training will take one hundred years and she has to leave her current friends and family behind while she is being trained. But, an invitation to the Godmother Academy is not something to turn down lightly. If you refuse you are cursed! Before going off to the academy she has to preform one more Godmotherly act under the supervision of Katrina. She must arrange for true love and create a magical wedding to fulfill someone's dreams. One of her best friend's mother has recently lost her husband and the girls seem to focus on her as the best available candidate. Values are woven into the fabric of this book, Lacey has to learn where and how to use her magical gifts. The story is absorbing and easily read in one session and is worth a reread to catch any subtleties you may have missed hurrying ahead so you can find out what happens next. I can't wait for book three (and I hope for even more after that!).

Oh my godmother #2, The Magic Mistake by Barbara Brauner and James Iver Mattson, illustrated by Abigail Halpin – Fantasy – 3rd grade and up – This was an entertaining quick read to enjoy. Didn’t matter that this was book 2 in the series, it was just fine as an independent book to read and enjoy. The illustrations additionally helped keep the pacing smooth and original. Love the idea of a girl who has the obligation to be a fairy godmother in training and if she fails in bestowing her assigned person her wish, she will have dire consequences. Cute book packed with twists and turns. I just interviewed Abigail Halpin, the illustrator of this book here: http://thestylinglibrarian.com/2014/0...

While this book is definitely marketed for tween girls, this little novel exceeded my expectations. I honestly enjoyed reading this in a single, quick sitting. It's well-written, with good pacing, humor, and fun. Perfect to brighten up my day! Now I'll hand it over to my tween daughter. Thanks, GoodReads FirstReads, for this copy!

P.S. Probably my favorite part was with the Bridemonsters! Watch out! :-)

It's an easy to read, light subject and most especially fun book.
A perfect book for the in between reads. It's got fun little illustrations that don't distract too much from the story and still leave plenty for the imagination.
We will definitely keep this book until our little girl is old enough to start reading it by herself.
The book was given to me by Goodreads Firstreads.

I can't say enough about this book or the authors! If you haven't read any of the books in the OMG (Oh My Godmother!) series you are missing out. Yes, they are written with younger readers in mind, but they are such funny, witty, and well-told stories that anyone of any age will enjoy them. I've read them with my daughter who is 10 and we both LOVED the books!
