3.5 stars!

I had a hard time rating this one. I loved the writing style and the story overall but it could have been a lot better especially towards the end.

Unstoppable is one of those slow-burning stories set in a small town with great side characters. I usually love these types of stories, and while Unstoppable did have great characters and undeniable chemistry, it was too slow for me. I like knowing about the day-to-day stuff and all that but really, it became tedious after a while.

The second half was a lot better. The story really picked up and we finally have a glimpse of the reason why Bennett was afraid of commitment in the first place. The conflict between the two characters was done well but then the resolution just fell flat for me. I would have loved to see Bennett grovel more. The time apart and the groveling part should at least constitute around 20% of the story or more but meh, it was all over just like that. He was forgiven. I was so looking forward to the groveling part but it didn't happen. It had a nice epilogue though but other than that, I was totally let down by how they resolved their issues.

In spite that, I still gave this one a 3.5 since I love the writing style of the author. :)

An ARC was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Unstoppable. It was a cute and sweet read. My issue with it was that the hero needed to grovel in a major way. That said I liked the cast of characters both second and main and I'm definitely interested in reading the previous books in the series.

Stilted dialogue with many pointless scenes. It is the generic brand equivalent to books in the Lucky Harbor Jill Shalvis series.

Sorry if that sounds harsh and this is the most I can muster up to write about it. Talk about a double edged sword, I paid for it but that also means I don't feel obligated to write a good review. Maybe others will like this but to me there are several other, way better, contemporary series out there.

The Country Roads series focuses on a group of friends finding love in small town Mirabelle, FL. In Unstoppable, we follow a young teacher, Mel, and a former soldier, Bennett, as they find their way to each other and learn what it means to love.

I love Shannon Richard's writing. She makes her characters pop and the small town setting is very well done. She has "meet cutes" and sweeping romantic gestures, but also grounds it with good friends and fun nights out. That said, I didn't love Unstoppable as much as the first book, Undone . It was still an entertaining read, but just didn't have the same... pizzazz as the debut novel. I think a lot of that stemmed from who the characters are -- not that they were bad, just quieter people than Undone's Paige and Brendan.

Melanie, or Mel as everyone calls her, was a very sweet girl and a great teacher. I loved seeing her interact with her students and seeing how much she truly cared about their well-being. She was a little bit quiet when it came to her worries with Bennett, but I did like seeing her let herself go with him in the moment, especially when they were checking things off her "I didn't kick the bucket" list. Bennett was the strong, silent type but he did make some stupid mistakes from time to time. He's still suffering from survivor's guilt and probably some PTSD, so some times he makes bad choices in regards to his relationship with Mel that he then regrets. All in all though, the characters were interesting, if a little placid, and it was fun to see their whirlwind romance.

I do think the second half of the book was stronger than the first. The beginning of Unstoppable focused on getting Mel and Bennett into a relationship and then settling them in for the long haul. I like romances where we get glimpses of the more domestic side, but it did drag a little bit here and there. I did love when Bennett bought Mel a puppy though; so sweet! There is a big event that happens in the second half of the book that makes Bennett start questioning things in his life. It seems like whenever things are steady, something bad has to happen and takes away someone he cares about. He starts questioning whether or not he could go through that with Mel and wondering if the good times would be worth it if you lost them in the end. He doesn't react well to this situation and he hurts Mel in the process. It was interesting to finally see Bennett's war experiences coming to the surface and how they cloud his thinking. It would have been nice to get more glimpses earlier, but it served as a good plot point here. I did think the end was a little too tidy, with Bennett being forgiven much too easily. I know he gets some slack because of his experiences, but he said some really hurtful things and I just expected a much bigger "grand romantic gesture."

Even with my complaints, I did find Unstoppable to be an enjoyable read and I continue to love Shannon Richard's ability to tell a heart-warming romance. I know what I am getting with these books and that's a feel-good happily ever after. I'm not sure whose story will be next, though there seems to be a setup for both Hannah and Nate. I plan to continue with this series and know that I can expect a romantic pick-me-up whenever I am in a rut.

Oh, man. I absolutely devour every single Shannon Richard novel and am always left wanting so much more. Unlike the first two novels of the Country Roads series, Unstoppable explores the slow growth and realistic uncertainty of starting a relationship that isn't hot and heavy right off the bat.

After Melanie was shot by the two men who victimized their town, Bennett did not leave her side as she recovered and returned back to teaching. No matter how big of a crush Melanie has developed for Bennett, though, she knows he's just a friend she can count on for anything, and that includes helping her math class build bookcases for an entire semester. Spending so much time together, Bennett has far more than friendly feelings for Melanie, but his past still haunts him, as well as the tragedy that has scared him from ever letting anyone in again.

Like I said, this book is not like the previous two books in this small town romance series, but definitely in a good way. Bennett and Melanie's relationship is slow-going and they hang out a lot as friends before things come even close to progressing towards being more than friends. That being said, though, I love how we got to see Melanie and Bennett be friends first and finally have a relationship that develops instead of having an attraction that just take of running like so many romance novels do. Not to mention that I absolutely loved how they watched Game of Thrones together. As a GoT fanatic, I understood all of the references and was way too excited whenever they would talk about it together. Nothing like a little Game of Thrones to light the flame of a relationship!

Not only was their relationship so much more realistic, but Melanie's character was definitely a character I could relate to. Melanie was a high school math teacher and she didn't wear super revealing clothes or have a totally hot body that every single guy in the room stares at. No, she's just average, but Bennett saw everything in her that made her special and completely irresistible in his eyes. And when she got sick and he took care of her? A completely normal occurrence in a person's life, but one that just made me swoon. Bennett is super sweet and I loved how much he took care of Melanie and put her first in their relationship. And the cooking! A man who can cook gets an A plus in my book.

I must say, though, this novel was definitely a lot more serious and emotional as well. Bennett went through some traumatic and emotional experiences when he was in the Air Force and when something happens that brings all of those feelings rushing back, his relationship with Melanie is put to the test. I was on the verge of tears at one point, and that's definitely saying something. I became very connected to Bennett and Melanie as they faced the uncertainty and shyness newly forming couples go through, which only made me love them that much more when they had to face their own demons as they attempted to let each other in by the end of the book. As much as I loved this book, though, I am beyond ecstatic to finally have Shep's story in the next book! Mmmm, more irresistible men in an addicting story where the small town is impossible not to love? Yes, please!

Bennett that boy is just I loved him, "well, I was concerned about your limbs, too," Bennett said with a smile." When Melanie FINALLY decides to grow balls and not put up with his crap I must say I was really pleased with the way Bennett handled it, "I can't leave you alone." He came into the room and shut the door behind him. "And I'm not playing games." He crossed the small space. "Or at least I'm not trying to." He shook his head. "I think about you all the time." Bennett his mind is such a guys and I really loved it, "the most intriguing pair of panties was cream and tan leopard with cream lace all around the edges. He was also a pretty big fan of the red lace thong. Not to mention the number of bras made with lace and satin." Communication is key when it comes to these two, "you want me to write down that I want you to stay?" he asked above her lips. "I'll paint it on the effing walls." He kissed her, and not so gently this time." I must say Bennett gets wild when his woman gets wild, "what?" He looked over his shoulder at the mirror. "Holy s***," he said as he got a look at the dozen or so scratch marks she'd made across his back. "I must've done something right." He looked back at her, grinning like an idiot." I hope Harper's story is next in this series, because I really do enjoy reading about this group of friends.

I enjoyed this novel! I usually don't read a lot of romantic novels because, face it, they all end happily ever after. Although this novel follows the form, I enjoyed that the main character was a teacher. She is a teacher that I can relate to; one who works hard to connect with and "save" the students she can.

I also enjoyed all of the supporting characters. They seemed like "real" people who would say and do things that good friends would do/say to each other.

Because this is part of a series, I worried that I wouldn't be able to follow along because I hadn't read the other books. I needn't have worried, the book was so well written that I learned just what I needed to know about the other characters and their situation.

I would pick up and read the rest of the series!

Mirabelle is such an adorable little place. I wish towns and people like that readily existed. I really loved the characters but I felt a little bored at times reading. Looking forward to the next book because there is a love interest outside of the main group of friends. A cute and summery read though :) this is adult contemporary romance, just FYI!

I CAN’T GET ENOUGH!! I absolutely ADORE these characters and I LOVE how the books seem to bleed into each other. I become so attached to characters when I read books (especially these ones) that I don’t want to let them go! With this series, I don’t have to! This is the third book in the series that picks up where the others left off only from a different person’s perspective. I love the slow-burn romance of Mel and Bennett and getting to know these characters’ personal stories makes me feel like I’m a part of their world. This is such an easy and FUN read that I find myself slowing down so that it’s not over too quickly. Can’t wait to read the next one!!

Melanie needs to help of Bennet Hart, a former Air Force sergeant, with her students for a school project. She is hoping he notices her but she feels he is hiding something. Bennet finds himself happy to be back home and meeting Mel, but will his past keep him from moving forward? Will he continue to play it safe?

This started off really cute. I loved how the story was flowing along. The middle of the book was too slow and the same things happened for pages and pages. I felt the end was a bit too quick.

Quick & Dirty: Very steamy romance with lots of drama and heartfelt moments.

Opening Sentence: The pain was incredible.

The Review:

Melanie O’Bryan just recently came to terms with how short life can really be. A few months back she was shot, but luckily there was no permanent damage. Former Air Force sergeant Bennett Hart has really been there for Mel through the whole healing process. They are just friends, but Mel’s feelings have started to go way beyond friendship lately. She gets butterflies every time she sees him. The fact that he has a killer body and is very easy on the eyes doesn’t hurt one bit. Being a good friend, Bennett has agreed to help Mel with a school project, but Mel is secretly hoping that he is going to offer her a whole lot more.

Bennett Hart is just happy to be alive. After surviving a terrible accident in Afghanistan that killed everyone in his unit except for him and one other, Bennett feels blessed to be back home. But living through an experience like that leaves its scars and all Bennett wants is to live a quite, peaceful life with no complications. He never expected the gorgeous math teacher at the high school could make him feel so many complicated emotions. After one amazing kiss, Bennett finds himself entering into uncharted territory with Mel and he is determined to not screw it up. But with memories and fears from the past slowly creeping in, he will have decide what risks he is willing to take to be with the one woman that has ever made him feel anything.

Mel really develops and grows exceedingly throughout the book. Starting out, she is timid and has always been a little scared to put herself out there. Somewhere along the line she realizes that life is too short and that she needs to go after what she wants. She has the patience of a saint, which is good since the certain man she has her eye on seems to take forever to act on his feelings for her. I love that she is willing to take chances and try new things. I really loved getting to know Mel, she was a great character that was easy to sympathize and connect with.

Bennett is a very appealing man. With his quiet and sweet demeanor, and his rocking body, what is not to love. There are parts of him that are broken, so letting someone in that could hurt him is extremely scary for him. There has never been a woman that has made a lasting impression on his heart until Mel. Everything about her is sexy and interesting to him. They have hot chemistry and together they seem to complete each other. Everything about Bennett was perfect and I’m not going to lie, just thinking about him made me drool just a little bit.

Unstoppable is a great romance story filled with inspiring characters, sexual tension, and heartfelt moments. My one complaint about this story was that there wasn’t really a subplot beyond the romance. In the other books in the series there was always an underlying plot that was completely separate from the romance, and it seemed to help add substance and drama to the story. Because this book pretty solely focused on Bennett and Mel’s relationship, I felt at times the story dragged. That’s not to say that I didn’t love their relationship because I did, I just wish there would have been something else added to make the plot more intriguing. But with that being said, I still really enjoyed this novel and I really hope that Richard will release more books in this series. There are a few other secondary characters that I hope get a book because I really love them. If you are looking for a fun and steamy new adult series, I suggest you give the Country Road series a try.

Notable Scene:

Mel Jumped back into him as his arm skimmed over hers. He steadied her by placing his free hand on her hip. He grabbed the container, and when he set it down on the counter she turned and looked up at him.

“Thank you,” she said softly.

He was so close to her. All he had to do was lean down a little bit and he’d be able to press his mouth to hers.

“No problem,” he said, unable to look at anything but those soft lips of hers.

She was breathing unevenly. He was pretty sure he’d stopped taking in oxygen a while ago, because he felt a little light-headed. He took a step into her, pushing her back against the counter, and her breasts came up against his chest. His eyes flickered up to hers, and what he found there made all rational thought leave his mind.

“Bennett,” she whispered.

My rating: 4.5 of 5 ⭐️

Since returning injured from active duty two years ago, Air Force veteran Bennett Hart has slowly readjusted to life in Mirabelle, working construction and renovations. He has even started building some furniture and is scheduled to help out at the local high school with a project, something he is looking forward to. He loves working with his hands and he also enjoys hanging out with Mel, the math teacher who spearheaded this project and happens to be a friend.

She's had a bit of a crush on Bennett ever since he helped nurse her back to health, but Melanie O'Bryan isn't quite sure if she is willing to stick her neck out and risk their friendship. Especially since they will be working closely together in her classroom in the near future. If anything happens it will have to be initiated by him, because the signals he is putting out are all over the map. Mel doesn't have a whole hell of a lot of experience with men, but she knows that when there is one as skittish as Bennett, one wrong move will have him running.

Urged on by his friends and unable to suppress his craving for her, Bennett finally makes his move and Mel is cautiously over the moon. It took him long enough and she wants to carefully test the waters. Who is she kidding, her heart was invested long before her mind ever caught up, and Mel knows it. as long as she keeps it to herself because she is quite sure Bennett isn't ready to hear any declarations of love just yet.

For now Bennett is enjoying being with an amazing woman who is doing all kinds of wonderful things for him. In and out of the bedroom. But he prefers not to think too much or too far ahead, he does better when he stays in the here and now. Not something that goes unnoticed by Mel, his holding a big chunk of himself separate. A part of him that he won't let her see. The part that eventually might grow too big and split them apart......

********

What a wonderful, sensitive, yet quick-witted novel. A story that shows the ease with which we tend to throw up our own barriers when it comes to finding happiness.....it never is something to be found elsewhere or in others. Happiness is always something you have to allow yourself to feel, to be.

The town of Mirabelle and its inhabitants are slowly becoming a familiar backdrop for these stories and we get better a quainted with the group of friends that meander through the series. In the second book we managed to get brief glimpses of Mel and even Bennett, both of whom are taking centre stage now. Although all the stories are loosely connected, they can also be read as standalone novels.

As a veteran of war, it is not surprising that Bennett suffers from some form of what might be considered PTSD. Enduring nightmares and panic attacks would be considered part and parcel of the symptomology, as are mood swings, which is something else affecting Bennett. Mel instinctive sense not to push him to hard is probably wise, however frustrating it must be for her. She is not aware of the full effect his experiences in the military have left him with, but realizes it is not something he should be keeping bottled up. However, she is not willing to make herself subject to his push and pull attitude and has the backbone to stand up for herself, demanding full committment in a relationship.

Shannon Richard writes the third novel in her Country Road Series with again more depth and confidence. I have read, reviewed and enjoyed the previous two books UNDONE and UNDENIABLE and although all were good, this one is at the top of my list. The story and the insightful, yet resilient and upbeat manner in which it is written is an absolute treat!

If this growing trend continues for Ms. Richard, there will be a point where I run out of stars

✨A warm, insightful and spunky romance!!✨

Unstoppable is a very pleasant read. I think this is something you can read in one afternoon when you’re finally done with the laundry and other household chores. The story is simple and easy to dive into. The characters are likeable. The secondary characters even steal the limelight from the main couple! They’re wacky and fun, and more than once I wished I had such a supportive and fun group of friends.

The way Unstoppable is written reminds me of Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She is an expert at writing romances that are set in communities where there are many secondary characters with interesting individual stories. Even though they stand out once in a while, the story doesn’t stray from the main romance. I think Shannon Richard was able to accomplish the same thing!

I haven’t read the first books in this series, so my impressions of Melanie and Bennett are purely built from this story.

Melanie is one of the nicest book characters I’ve ever encountered. She is a high school math teacher who initiated a bookshelf-building drive for the school library. She is a very good friend to Harper, Grace and Paige. Even during her lowest of lows, she can still celebrate the wonderful things going on in her friends’ lives.

I also found Mel to be the princess of the group. Perhaps it’s just because she’s the one who’s exploring a romantic relationship at this point in time, but everyone is really looking out for her. Bennett is one of them.

Bennett is an ex-military who quit after his group had been gunned down in Afghanistan. What he went through was terrible. He was injured himself—and has the scars to show it—and was rescued by the only other man who survived the attack: his commanding officer and now best friend, Danny.

Bennett’s experience may not have been dramatized in the story, but it is actually the main reason why he is so reluctant to make things official between him and Mel. So yes *deep sigh* there’ll be that frustrating I-like-you-but-I-don’t-want-to-love-you moment on Bennett’s part.

We all have scars. Some of them are just more visible than others.

Since the beginning of the story, it was a given that Mel had a crush on Bennett. It was also very obvious to all their friends that Bennett is equally attracted to her. You’ll be amazed at everything this guy had done for her. I won’t go into details anymore, but there’s no denying the EFFORT on Bennett’s part. To think he did all that with NO INTENTION whatsoever of impressing Mel! Goodness, any girl who’s at the receiving end of his attentiveness and thoughtfulness can really fall head over heels with him. With the exception of his bullheadedness near the end, Bennett showed all signs of being the perfect boyfriend/fiancé.

Here is my favorite line in the book (may change in the final version) said by Grace, when Mel said it's okay if she and Bennett won't end up together because they only got together for a short time:

So, I've loved Jax for a longer amount of time, but that doesn't make my love stronger or more powerful than yours. Love is love. It has the strength all its own, a strength that can't be ranked by time. Don't let anyone diminish how you feel, especially yourself.

All in all, I really enjoyed Unstoppable by Shannon Richard! It's a 4-star read for me because although it isn't the type of story that will reduce your heart to shreds and then tape it up again in the end (or not, in some cases LOL), it didn't seem lacking at all for me. It wasn't pretentious or ambitious, and it didn't crash and burn.

I recommend this to anyone who’s looking forward to a light read and sweet things in between!

Thank you very much to the author and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book for review!

Unstoppable was a cute, light-hearted contemporary romance that is not so emotionally heavy you feel you can't breathe. Instead, it's a breath of fresh air and will leave you smiling at the friendships Richard has created, as well as fanning yourself over the sizzling tension between Mel and Bennett.

Pacing: I really liked Richard's writing style. The story felt natural and relatable, and one that I could easily envision happening in everyday life. Mel and Bennett's relationship starts off as a friendship and eventually morphs into more. I liked seeing the two hang out first as friends and then witness them start to fall for one another.

Storyline: Melanie has been crushing on Bennett for some time now and after a potentially fatal scare, he embeds himself in her life even more by simply being there for her and taking care of her. She isn't super experienced relationship wise, but she can't deny she wants something with Bennett. Bennett, who is former military, has some past demons of his own that still haunt him and doesn't think a relationship is really what he wants right now. However, the closer he gets to Mel, he finds his resolve faltering and wants to be with her. They don't have to think about the future holds, but just embrace what they have right now. However, will Bennett let his fears rule him and dominate his life to the point where he just might lose the one good thing he's found in a long while?

Characters: I liked Mel a lot. She's got some spunk in her and I'm glad she confronts Bennett about his hot and cold act. You go girl! She has feelings for him, but she's not going to let herself be jerked back and forth either while he tries to figure out what he wants. She is a teacher and is excited for the big project her and Bennett are doing together. Their project has the power to change kids' lives and that is so rewarding to her.

Bennett is a good guy, despite the fact that you want to smack him around a bit for hurting Mel. She is disappointed by the fact he is interested in her, but won't make a move. She feels rejected and my heart hurt for her because you can tell she really likes him. Bennett lets his fears unconsciously rule his life and he has to realize for himself that life is too short to live that way.

Grace and Harper, Mel's best friends, show up quite a bit in this story and I really liked that. I love their friendship and how they will drop everything when one of their own is in need. They are good shoulders to lean on, cry on, and hug on and I'm glad we got to see just how much of an impact that has on Mel.

Final Thoughts: This storyline isn't an overly original one, but it's still cute and I like that Richard made it her own with her characters' personalities and spunk. It's definitely a great choice if you're looking for something fun and cute that's low on emotional turmoil.

This is an excerpt of my complete review, found HERE at Into the Hall of Books.

THIS IS WHERE I DECLARED THIS SERIES ONE OF MY FAVORITES EVER EVER EVER. The first time I read the first book, I gobbled it up - I devoured it. And then I devoured the second and third books in the series, Undeniable and Unstoppable. This series has basically all of the things that I love about a fun romance series: the small town, the quirky characters, the friends/siblings/family relationships that are INCREDIBLE, and the fun romances! Plus, I smile while I read them. This is all KEY for me to know that a book or series is "favorites" status for me.

Unstoppable continues with the story of high school teacher Melanie O'Bryan and Bennett Hart, who is ex-military. This is one of those really great, fun-to-read stories that made me smile the entire way through. IT REALLY DID.

Melanie is much the opposite of her friends Paige and Grace, who are both fiesty and outgoing (and featured in the previous two books). Melanie is much more reserved, preferring to plan things out and keep life in its box. She has a huge heart for her students, which leads her to start a community project...which means she needs a little bit of help. Bennett Hart is perfect for the "helper" position because he is back now from serving time overseas in the military. Surviving an accident while deployed has left Bennett a little...well, he has maybe a little bit of PTSD and maybe a little bit of guilt over how things went down over there. Because of this, he has had a hard time coping. Helping Melanie with her project at school has given him something really wonderful to focus on, something to build him up a bit. PLUS it doesn't hurt that he gets to spend some extra time around Melanie -- because it's pretty obvious that even though these two are both reserved about how they're feeling, there are some sparks flying.

Melanie and Bennett also have a slow-burn romance, but it isn't as explosive as the romance between the previous two couples in the series. What I mean is that TO ME, both Melanie and Bennett seem to be a little more mature about almost everything, but I personally attribute this to the fact that BOTH of them have survived big accidents in their lives. Both of them have either guilt or fears or issues in healing from those accident process, not counting the actual physical healing that they've had to do. They are actually perfect for each other and their romance is so wonderful to read.

Loving someone is the best thing in life but don’t push it away because you’re scared of losing them because in the end it’s best to love than not love at all.

Wow can I say that this book was an emotional read for me. I can’t wrap my head around these two characters that were meant to be together but because he still had issues he pushed the woman he loved out of his life. That was so not cool. Life is not all roses there are times that someone dear to your heart passes away or they get hurt, but that part of life. That’s exactly what Bennett Hart did he pushed her away and broke Melanie “Mel” O’Brayn’s heart. He knew he loved her and she knew too but the what if’s of life broke that.

What started as a school project ended up being the one thing that brought two amazing characters together. Mel had wanted to help her math students with a project and now that it had been approved the project included having Bennett assist her with it. They were going to be making bookshelves for the library and it was something that Bennett could pay back because the library was a sanctuary for him when he was in high school. The librarian also even sent him books when he was in the military as a pass time. While the project was on its way there were two students that actually became friends and one of them actually made changes in his life. Hamilton was Mel’s brother and Dale was a student that was lost but that all changed when these two students were in the same team building the bookshelf. The more time that Mel and Bennett spent together it was only a matter of time before they would end up together.

It was hilarious when Bennett found Mel’s bucket list that she made while drinking lots of wine with Harper and Grace. But the only thing was that he now knew what she wanted to do and knew her a little bit more but she knew nothing about him. He was having nightmares and he didn’t talk to her about them he was closed off from her. She knew she loved him but she didn’t want to tell him so soon but the moment that he said it when he thought she was sleeping was perfect. Only you already know just when things are going great between them two something ends up happening and I was so so mad at Bennett for doing what he did. He totally broke her heart and in the process he broke himself.

Unstoppable was an incredible read. It was funny, there were tears and then my heart filled with so much happiness. I absolutely fell in love with this story. I have to admit that I struggled in the beginning. I felt every emotion in Ms. Richards writing. I can’t wait to see what she has in store next.

Unstoppable is the third book in this series by Shannon Richard and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Set in the small town of Mirabelle Florida, Unstoppable, which is a companion novel and can be read as a standalone, is Mel and Bennett's story. Melanie O'Bryan is a high-school teacher who has always been the more subdued one in her group of girlfriends when it comes to guys and relationships. She knows how to cut loose and have a good time, but isn't the type of girl to just sleep around. Bennett Hart was formerly in the Air Force, and has been back in town for a few years now after a serious accident that occurred when he was overseas. He and Mel are friends, but things begin to become more than that after an event during which Bennett steps up and holds things together for her. He's not looking for anything more than that because he believes he can't and isn't willing to open himself up. Melanie on the other hand, would love nothing more than to take things to the next level with Bennett. After a passionate kiss, Bennett knows he can't stay away from this girl, but when his fears from the past rise up into the present, he choices and actions threaten to destroy everything he has with this woman that he has come to care so much about.

I really like Mel's character. She is compassionate and really cares about her friends, her students, and her community. She's also a lot of fun, has a tremendous amount of patience, and you'll love her her "I Didn't Kick the Bucket List." You'll have to read the story to find out more about that. Bennett is a really awesome guy. He's hot, sexy, and he's really great with Mel, as well as the teens that she teaches. He went through a rough time while he was in the service, but Mel brings out the best in him, even if he doesn't realize it himself. We also get to see the characters from the previous two novels, which was really great also. The romance was sweet as well as sexy, with just the right amount of steam, and the story itself was one that I enjoyed and kept my attention from beginning to end.

Overall, Unstoppable is an enjoyable, sexy, fun, and entertaining story that fans of contemporary romance will love. If you haven't read anything out by this author before, I think you will really enjoy her writing and I most definitely recommend checking out Unstoppable and the rest of the books in Shannon Richard's Country Road Series.

Bennett Hart is now out of the Air Force after an almost fatal accident while deployed. He has spent the last couple of years not necessarily recouping but more like avoiding his issues. Unfortunately for him, those problems are brought front and center when (if you read Undeniable or the prologue in this book) Melanie O’Bryan is shot. While the sweet and sassy math teacher is still recovering from her physical and mental wounds, he’s there like a knight in shining armor trying to help her. The problem is that he’s getting too close.

All of the time Mel and Bennett spend together is not relieving either’s emotions. She has had a crush on him for a while and the more time she is with him, the more in over her head she gets. The same thing is happening for Bennett except he is a bit skittish with his emotions.

First, I’ll just put this out there I loved this story and at one point there may have been a few tears involved. The characters are rather complex. Mel might initially come across as sweet and perhaps a bit meek but really she has a firm backbone and the patience of a saint. Bennett is the strong quiet type complete with chivalrous southern values. These people could be anyone in your own group of friends so the familiarity of them makes for ease and more amusement.

I enjoyed the push and pull of their budding relationship. They start out as friends before moving on to be more. When they finally decided to pursue a romantic inclination, they did not disappoint. There is so much build up to their first time and it is fantastic, romantic with enough naughtiness to make it sizzle.

The story arc transpires over several months so you really get to see the growth in the characters and their connection. I knew there would be a “big” blowout at some point and when it happened I was taken aback. Yes, logically I know there has to be dissention to make that HEA even better, but wow.

I think the only downside to this book is I just wanted more. I know we’ll see them in future stories but theirs is a touching and poignant one. I can’t wait for the next one. This is a group of friends I can’t get enough of.

Mel is a high school math teacher who has taken it upon herself to talk the new superintendent into letting her math classes build bookcases for the school library to show the students how math can show up in every day life. Something I severely wish my high school teachers had bothered to show us. It's no wonder Melanie O'Bryan is one of the students' favorite teachers.

Since the school doesn't teach shop anymore, though, Melanie asks one of her friends, Bennett to help out. He's in construction. He knows how to use the tools at his disposal. And boy does he know how to use those tools.

The two adults have been friends for years, and apparently have had feelings for each other for a great amount of that time, but it isn't until Mel is shot in the beginning of the book that either one of them even begins to think of doing anything about those feelings. Bennett, ex-Air Force, knows what it's like to be shot and when he finds out what happened to Mel he is there in a flash to be there for her. To be the one that calms her down and keep her awake so help can get to her. And then once she's finally clear of danger, Bennett doesn't leave.

I could have hugged him. I wanted to hug him. Here was this guy whose helicopter had been shot down, who was one of two to survive the crash, and rather than run away like he could have at the memories of shots being fired.. he stayed there. He was there to hold her hand through it all. Waiting for the EMTs, while she was in surgery, and while she was recuperating. His only problem was his fear. Fear that something could happen that would take her away from him for good.

Unstoppable is right. It was nearly impossible for me to stop reading this story and I was beyond sad to have to let the characters go. I wanted to continue in their lives. I wanted to see if Mel chose to wear a dress that resembled the one in Bennett's dreams. I wanted to see them have kids and see if they ended up looking like June, like I figured they would. But more than anything I just wanted them to continue loving each other because I thought they were amazing together. Even when things were off, or they weren't actually dating, their chemistry was undeniable.

Three cheers for Unstoppable.

This was a sweet, fun and light contemporary that was just what I needed. With the utterly adorable small-town, Southern setting and characters you can’t help but to fall for, there’s really not much to complain about.

When Mel (a high school math teacher) finally is able to do a project she’s been wanting to do with her class for a while, she needs some help. Luckily she has oh-so-very swoon worthy Bennett Hale falling head over sneakers for her, even if he doesn’t know it himself. Now, this is both insanely frustrating with the whole “just friends” thing that they are so determined to stick to, especially said man. Gah, I wanted to hit him with a brick in the face a few times. Mel has more patience in these 300-something pages than I’ve ever had in my lifetime. Though, for me, that’s saying almost nothing. That whole “patience is a virtue” thing never really registered in my mind. Like ever.

With the tv show + dinner nights at each other’s houses, the lines become blurred between friends and something more. And with Bennett’s fear of getting close to anyone (and who wouldn’t with the past that he has) feelings get hurt and confusion, frustration and hope become Mel’s bible. When tragedy strikes, things (and by that I mean them) get even more complicated. I know, I didn’t think it was possible either.

Okay. Okay. I love this book. I was so, so, SO sweet. I was giggling through pretty much the entire book. And *takes a deep breath* I almost cried. Me, the girl who didn’t cry in Titanic (but did in TFIOS! Shh. . .tell no-one!) almost cried in this one. Yeah, didn’t expect that one either.

I adore Mel’s friends! I haven’t read the first two books in the series because I saw this could be read as a stand-alone, but now I NEED IT! Also, there were hints of the next book, which I am oh-so-very looking forward to. Anyway, Mel’s friends were SO AMAZING! Especially with the whole “I Didn’t Kick The Bucket List.” Love it!

So, y’all need to get your paws on a copy of this book ASAP!

Melanie O'Bryan was shot when she walked into a robbery-in-progress and Bennett Hart has been at her side every step of the way. They're friends, but the more time they spend together the more the lines start to blur for Mel. There's no doubt that Mel is attracted to Bennett, but she knows that he doesn't see her that way--until that kiss.

Although Bennett would never deny his attraction to Mel, he doesn't do relationships with women. He doesn't believe he's capable of it. But Mel is smart, funny, patient and sexy as hell and he can't seem to stay away.

I admit, I had a bit of a hard time with this story. Mainly because Bennett was so very clueless about his feelings for Mel. From the very beginning, you could see that he care deeply for her and it was very frustrating for him to continue to ignore them. However, Shannon Richard did a fantastic job of bringing him around. With the use of flirty banter, good-natured bickering and honest interactions the author made sure that I was convinced that there was something there between Mel and Bennett.

Of course, it helped that their chemistry jumped off the page. That first kiss alone proved that although the chemistry was always simmering in the background, it only took one moment to make it boil over the surface. I loved it!

Keep in mind that although this is the third book in the Country Roads series it can be read as a stand alone. As a follower of the series I would recommend reading the previous books, especially if you enjoy a fun and sexy read with a bit emotions on the side.

All in all, a great addition to the series with a sexy clueless man who's brought to his knees by a sweet school teacher. ;-)

Melanie, Mel to all those who love her, is a high school math teacher with curly hair that loves to frizz in the wonderful southern humidity. Since her accident, she had been shot in book two - Undeniable, she'd been getting a lot of attention from a certain somebody who had caught her eye way before her run in with a bullet. Though a nice friendship wasn't exactly what she had in mind when she thought about him.

"Mel was a Southern girl through and through, and there was just something about a guy in a truck that drove her crazy. And Bennett in a truck? Yeah, there were absolutely no words."

But, if you were to ask him he'd simple say: "We're just friends."

When Bennett Hart had been shot down in Afghanistan it had broken more than his body. He decided to never share his pain with anyone. He was better off alone. That is until Mel turns his world upside down.

You can only run so much and so far before the love of a good woman catches up with you.

This book has added additional characters that the others did not have, including ex-military friends of Bennett's and students of Mel's. But my favorite is Hamilton, Mel's younger brother. I love his unfiltered comments to both Mel and Bennett.

"I'm pretty sure they were making out in the supply closet this afternoon," Hamilton announced to the table.

"Your intentions are written plain as day on your face, and it's rather disturbing as it's directed toward my sister. Maybe you should calm it down there, buddy."

My Favorite Part: Mel's "My I Didn't Kick the Bucket List"

I loved everything on it, including the ones Bennett later added. But I definitely loved #6!

My Favorite Moment: There are many, but I'm pretty fond of the locker room discussion between Bennett, Preston, Tripp, and Shep.

Bennett really is Mel’s hero. Mel was shot when she inadvertently walked into a robbery in progress and Bennett was suddenly there to help her. He visited her in the hospital regularly. He helped her recover at home. Then after the recovery, he stuck around to share carry-out and his favorite TV shows on DVD. Needless to say, they became close friends. But Mel wants more. She’s been interested in Bennett long before the shooting. His constant attention and their growing friendship have only succeeded in making her crush stronger.

Bennet is what I like to call a “slow starter.” He obviously has a thing for Mel. But he doesn’t realize it. It takes a while for Bennett to really figure out anything when it comes to feelings and relationships. Actually it doesn’t take a while. It takes forever. He insists they are just friends even though he is now spending more time with her than his own friends. When he finally realizes that he likes her and wants to start dating, he dives right in. But then begins the painstaking yet amusing process of him realizing the next step in their relation. Five billion years after Mel and all their friends have already figured it out.

I might make fun of Bennett but the fact is I absolutely adored him. He tries so hard and succeeds almost every time. And Mel is absolutely lovely. She is one my favorite types of heroines; patient, nurturing, funny and sexy. Together, these two have an amazingly fiery and sexy relationship.

Unlike my usual fare, Unstoppable only contains a smidge of angst and temporary heartbreak. This story is full of sexy happiness and good times. I can’t recommend this one enough if you enjoy contemporary romance.

ARC provided for honest review....This was a change of pace for me with this read. Not too dark, not an over abundance of angst, but more of a slow building relationship between two characters that was fairly uneventful even in the moment of the big drama...it was still not too overwhelming.

Basically Melanie has been crushing on local war veteran hottie Bennett forever and a day. They have a friendly somewhat flirtatious relationship that isn't anything exciting. After weeks of hanging out, eating dinner, watching tv, and having almost kisses, Bennett gets freaked out over the fact that, oops he might like this girl and yep, gee she likes him too. So two steps back, some girly tears and then a come to jesus moment of damn, what am I doing? So begins the hot make out sessions that are very marathonesque!!! I mean holy hell...I was going crazy reading about how frizzed out poor Melanie's curls were from all her bed romping!

well all good things come to an end, especially when Bennett is strangely closed off and overly pessimistic. After his BFF suffers a major trauma he has increased panic attacks and cant tolerate anyone getting close to him thus pushing Melanie out the door. She spends days crying buckets only for him to come back and say sorry...I love you and all is well....HUH????? come on...make him grovel for heaven's sake!!!!

So, was this a bad read...NO. It was a predictable, definitely mellow and uneventful, but nonetheless written well. I honestly did find myself skimming a bit with the everyday actions of the characters, but I enjoyed the steamy scenes, lol!

So, this is another new to me author and yet again, I will be adding on to my huge TBR pile. This was the third installment of the "Country Roads" series so of course, now I must go forth & purchase the first two books to read and then wait for the fourth one to come out! Argh! I wish I had read the first two in the series before I got my hands on this one but I don't feel like I missed out on anything by reading "Unstoppable" first. There were plenty of re-caps woven into the story but not so many as to bog down this storyline. I enjoyed the chemistry of the lead characters of Mel & Bennett. What I DID have a hard time with was Mel's wait. Holy frustration Batman! I would NEVER have had the patience that Mel did. It was literally almost halfway through the book before Bennett FINALLY made a move - and I'm not even sure he would have done it then except for Mel's little nudge. Oy Vey! Maybe it's just me, but are there really men out there like this?? Seriously? I mean he was a wonderful guy and he had his issues but, come on now, he IS male. Then again, maybe I'm just jaded from my own personal experiences...
At any rate, this was quite a ride - sentimental & sweet with lots of human vulnerability and (in the later half of the book) plenty of steamy, sensual sexy scenes. All good in my book! Now, I'm off to the local bookstore, again.

FTC Advisory: I won a copy of this book through the GoodReads First Reads program. No compensation for my review was given.
