I don’t know why but I didn’t love this one. I enjoyed the first part but the second part was too much – too many events, too many secrets, too many twists, too much everything.
And the heroine irritated me for some reason. Not that she was weak or stupid. On the contrary. I just couldn’t connect with her.
I even skimmed the sex scenes.
Yeah, about that.
I read a lot of reviews here and on Amazon complaining about too many sex scenes in this book.
Seriously?
Did we read the same book?
I hope these people never visit my bookshelves section here on GR. They may faint or get sick.

I read a few reviews prior to reading this one. But mostly stayed away from them. I saw the big twist coming. No idea how I did. Not exactly the revelation but
This was one I couldn’t put down. Especially the last 20%, I just had to find out how it would end.
Sentimentality could get you killed
Loved the secondary characters too.
The diary entries for Flora were interesting too. Sex scenes were few and far between but quite hot when they happened.
”I hope you don’t mind chest hair.”
“Mind?”
She rubbed her face in it.
… as his body relaxed and enfolded hers, he sighed her name like a benediction.
But when he closed his eyes and tried to focus only on clouds drifting across snowy mountainpeaks and brooks rippling through primeval forests, his mind stayed stubbornly fixed on the woman who had walked out of his life earlier today....

I know I am handing out 5 stars to this author like it is nothing, but I'm hooked. I love her writing. I love the suspense. I love the longing for the sexy moments. I love the intrigue.
Deadline was another winner for me. Sandra Brown writes her stories with such depth, filled with suspense, mysterious characters, twists and turns and that slow burn of a romantic connection that will keep every single one of your emotions tingling.
Dawson Scott is a staff writer for NewsFront magazine. His stories are always thorough, thought provoking and they give a voice to people who may not otherwise get one. He is also freaking sexy, a bit broken and pretty damn sweet too.
When Harriet, his editor in chief hands him his next story, Dawson is more than annoyed and has no interest in it. With a bit of a push from his godfather Gary, he sets off on another story. It is the story of Willard Strong who is on trial for the murder of former Marine Captain Jeremy Wesson.
For Gary his reasons for this push are not that simple. He shares an unsettling past with Jeremy’s biological parents Carl Wingert and Flora Stimel who are leaders of a domestic-terrorist group. Reluctantly Dawson agrees and leaves to cover the story. It is a story that will unleash ominous black clouds over the lives of all involved.
The way the suspenseful story unfolds, as a reader you are given just enough to create your curiosity and lead your thoughts one way only to be faced with yet another twist. I thought it was great that we got to read journal entries from Flora too. Even though I didn’t fully understand the importance of these small pieces, my interest was piqued keeping me wondering.
Even with background information he has, Dawson was not prepared for Amelia Nolan, Jeremy’s ex-wife. The first day he set his eyes on her in the courtroom, she provoked more than the writer’s curiosity in him. (This would be the slow burn I was referring too. ❤) Amelia is a museum curator and a mom to two beautiful boys. These boys are the center of her life and as a momma bear she will do anything to keep them safe.
The setting once again puts you in a sense of comfort yet there is a feeling of vulnerability lurking.
At the break in the trial Amelia escapes to her family’s summer home with her with her boys Hunter and Grant. It is her place of solitude. But this time things are different. And one of those differences is Dawson Scott. It isn’t only Dawson that is seeking out a story. The more time Amelia spends with him the more she realizes that he is haunted by something that has happened. Something from his time spent while covering war stories.
This story was crazy good. The web that is spun connecting people, events from the past and present, leaves for no stone unturned. The suspense was carefully created, the unpredictability will have you on the edge of your seat and the twists and turns were thrown in perfectly. Even the side characters, Gary, Eva and Glenda all provide for some pretty amazing moments too.
I know many of my GR friends love hot sex scenes and lots of them. But I have to say this one had my heart racing with a sensual kiss, implied desire and that slow burn sexual tension between Dawson and Amelia was HOT. When things get shaking between the sheets it was heavenly. ❤

Deadline was yet another solid good suspence audiobook romance... my new favorite genre maybe. Not a boring minute and as my all Sandra Brown fan friends (more or less 5 stars from them all) am I very glad and pleased about this one but maybe not stunned.

When Dawson's godfather Gary Headly, an old FBI agent, a short time later ask him to check out an trial that may relate to a horrible story that began many years ago, he can't but approve. It could be a good and important story to add to his career as well.

In Savannah is Dawson covering the disappearance and presumed jealousy murder a year ago of former Marine Jeremy Wesson. A man who after new DNA evidence is assumed to be the biological son of the terrorists Carl Wingert and his wife Flora. A dangerous couple which still remain on FBI's Most Wanted list. Dawson's mission is to find out if his godfathers old nemesis Wingert still is alive.
Wesson's ex-wife, Amelia Nolan, is a witness in the trial and Dawson can't but feel for her beauty and strong appearance at once.
Amelia is spending the summer with her two young sons, Hunter and Grant on an island in her familys old beach house. Dawson rent the house next door and soon begins both tender emotions flow and an intriguing old mystery gets in the end solved.

I liked this audiobook edition (12:20 hrs) narrated by Stephen Lang. Mr Lang is without doubt good but maybe not great compared to Victor Slezak who read the other two SB audios I recently listened to. (My next audiobook from SB's huge book collection will however be one narrated by Mr Slezak.)

Exciting and well done...
This story-line offers a delicious thought out plot and it gets nail biting exciting with quite surprising twists (or I'm gullible?), towards the end.
I hated, hated, hated that evil nasty old terrorist. There are a lot of ugly villains in suspence and crime fiction but this one was entirely, in his soul and heart, an egotistical assh@le. ~ I'm not sure if it was the author's intention but my heart was hurting so much for poor Flora. Her fate, and strange life, is almost worth its own book.

In the usual SB way was even this story steaming hot, lovely romantic and touching sweet in the end. The main characters, Dawson and Amelia were excellent and truly believable. Add those two little boys which were absolutely adorable. ~ Sigh! Such a awesome perfect future little family.

What a twisty, turny tale of "what's happening now?". This was a pretty long book...I listened to the audio, so that made it even longer. I was going with four stars, but toward the end, there is a huge twist that I promise you won't see coming. And that twist made me rethink the entirety of the story, changing my perception of it altogether. I LOVE when that happens!! It's a big WOW, and one of those things that makes Sandra Brown such a favorite author of mine. I wasn't a huge fan of her early contemporary romances, but her romantic suspense is usually just flat out kick ass. She excels at characterization, her heroes sometimes riding that anti-hero line on a razor's edge, her heroines somehow innocent and still tough as nails.
One thing I thought about while reading this book is how Brown has some fairly defined gender roles, which I love. I'm old fashioned to a point. Yet I don't necessarily see her men as being sexist at all. Just very protective, and very much all about utilizing their man powers as they should be used. Her women tend to be the nurturers, but they still have high power jobs, and they still have a great sense of self. She just writes so good.
I've been a fan of Brown's since I rediscovered my love of reading a few years ago. I've devoured nearly all that she's written, and I think this one tops her best. In addition to the writing, the narration for this audiobook was fantastic as well. And it's a STAND ALONE...can't beat that!!

What a fantastic book! I love getting surprised and thinking I have something figured out only to learn I know absolutely nothing! The plot was tight and incredibly well written, the characters well rounded and full of depth and the slowly evolving romance was sweet. Having it written in third person with diary entries of one of the secondary characters was genius. As I was reading I'd get a feel for something and then have that knowledge deepened with a diary entry that helped enhance the pov of the bad guys.
This is a RS but it truly was SUSPENSEFUL, not just mysterious. The last 20% were on-the-edge-of-your-seat nail biting. And then a huge, HUGE reveal completely had me shaking my head in complete wonder...I NEVER expected that development! This is only the second book by SB I've read but just the beginning for me, it was great and highly recommended.

I'm just going to do a mini review, but this story was brilliant!
Dawson, a star reporter, returns from Afghanistan battered by war and suffering from PTSD. At the request of his godfather, a retiring FBI agent, Dawson goes to cover a murder trial he has no interest in. This all changes when Amelia, the beautiful ex-wife of the murdered, takes the stand. Dawson is helpless in his desire to get to the bottom of things. His past and the present collide putting all involved in great danger.
The romance was a slow, satisfying burn, and that as well as surprising twists keep glued to this riveting story! Another well-plotted mystery from Sandra Brown that has me anxious to work through her entire backlist of titles! This woman is good!

4.5 Stars! Sandra Brown manipulates the mind of the reader as well as Carl Wingert, the crazed sociopath, controlled the minds of his followers.
Heavy on the suspense/mystery with a sweet romantic thread...just the way I like it in this genre of book. The author's all about the shock value, and at times what was revealed, rocked me to my core. I love when an author makes me hate the villain as much as I despised this one! I wanted to smash Carl Wingert in the face with a hammer for all the hateful things he did, especially to those who loved him...yes loved him...what a nasty piece of work! He was the devil himself and had no regard for human life, just his own! GAAAAAHHH!! Just thinking about him gets me all riled up!
Full of twist and turns, this was a thrill ride from beginning to end. It was hard to put down!

Now that this is my third SB book, I know what to expect. These books lingers on your mind until you find out the full story. I've always felt like romance wise the main characters hook ups are a bit random. However that's not the main reason it didn't get higher ratings, but because I had the twists all sussed out and when it didn't surprise me it turned into another average read.
I will recommend if you enjoy:

Deadline by Sandra Brown is another gripping suspense novel. I must confess that the woman has a way to keep me on my toes and as much as I try to guess on the plot there are always spots that take me totaly by surprise...
This story is no exception.
I won't go into details about the plot because it's better if you go in with no warning, but I will say that in this story there is an insident that happent almost 40 years ago, and still affects the life of the protagonist today.
This story deals with some pretty hard stuff, like PTSD, suicide, loss of a family member, terrorism and more.
I give this story only 4 stars only because I didn't feel the heat between the main couple of the story. I got it plenty from the H from the start, but the h appeared really reserved and didn't indicate interest until almost the very end.
I listened to the audio version of the book and the narrator, Stephen Lang, did a decent job, but I must admit that most times I hate men impersonations of women. They tend to high-pitch their voice and the women appear to be shrieking.

I have been a fan of Sandra Brown's work for many years and "Deadline" didn't disappoint. Fast-paced suspense with shocking twists and turns.
Many years ago there was a shootout between the FBI and a gang of homegrown terrorists. Most of the officers and the gang died but the leader, his woman, and their new born baby were able to escape.
Many years later, Dawson Scott, a journalist recently returned from Afghanistan is suffering from PTSD with recurring nightmares. He is convinced by his godfather Headly, an FBI agent involved in the shooting, to cover a trial he thinks is linked to the gang leader who's never been caught.
A beautiful young woman, mother of two young boys, enters the courtroom to testify and Dawsons world is never the same.
Sandra Brown's characters are unique and the plot is pleasantly unpredictable. The romance builds slowly and realistically while the suspense grabs your attention so that you aren't able to put the book down.

Very well written romantic suspense by Sandra Brown. The last two books from her have been winners for me which puts a smile on my face. I've missed the Sandra Brown that introduced me to this favored genre. She kicked up the romance in this one but suspense still remains the center focus. And believe me, the suspense in this one was driven by well-developed characters and a generational crime spree that just kept on giving over and over throughout the years. I was captivated and awed by the entire storyline and how well it flowed and kept the momentum going until the very end. And near the end two masterful surprises that I didn't see coming but I should have -- really I should have, especially one in particular. It was a blast reading "Deadline" and a more perfect title could not have been chosen.
Bravo Ms. Brown for another winning addition to my SB Collection.

Are you really surprised? I’m not. So far, I believe Sandra Brown has earned a 5’er from each and every book I’ve read. Now, keep in mind, the woman has written a shit load of books, and I’ve only read a hand full. But I will be expanding on that number in earnest!
Deadline is another sensational story. Intricately woven and delivered with intense page-turning skill that will keep you guessing until the very end

That is all I want to say about the plot… it will grab your attention right from the beginning. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Sandra Brown’s tortured heroes! She writes the best leading men. Always. I have fallen in love with each and every one I’ve read about so far.

And the sexual tension builds at the same rate as the suspense of the story. I would have liked a little bit more from the two as a couple this time, but the build up made their eventual connection so much sweeter… and the epilogue was perfect.

I just cannot say enough about Sandra Brown. These books are so well written, and so numerous, it boggles the mind. She would definitely be on my list of people I’d like to meet.

Are you really surprised? I’m not. So far, I believe Sandra Brown has earned a 5’er from each and every book I’ve read. Now, keep in mind, the woman has written a shit load of books, and I’ve only read a hand full. But I will be expanding on that number in earnest!
Deadline is another sensational story. Intricately woven and delivered with intense page-turning skill that will keep you guessing until the very end

I have been reading books by this author since the 80's and though Deadline is not one of my top favourites, it still did not disappoint me.
A ell-written, good paced, multi-layered plot with amazing twists that deal with domestic terrorism in America, the effects of war and the evil and darkness that lurks underneath the most innocent and placid people and places that one can never imagine.
Dawson Scott an investigative reporter, who experienced some horrors whilst covering the war in Afghanistan, has returned home and trying to deal with PTSD, when he's asked by his godfather, a retired FBI agent, to cover the trial in Savannah, of a man accused of killing Jeremy Wesson, the son of a terrorist that has been haunting him for the last three decades. Agent Headly wants the case solved before his retirement so he can move on with his life.
Dawson meets Amelia, Jeremy Wesson's ex wife and soon both are on a journey that's filled with murder, betrayal, secrets, and lies that soon have them running out of time in avoiding being killed by people, like Carl Wingert, Jeremy Wesson's father, a total sociopath, who will stop at nothing to avoid the truth coming out.
I liked Dawson and Amelia, who felt very real to me, with all their flaws and insecurities and how each brought some good into each other's lives.
The subject of PTSD was very well-handled and felt very real to me.
And the twist near the end.........WOW....I never saw that coming!!!! What a revelation that just stunned me...in fact left me breathless!!!!
Anyone who enjoys a suspense and mystery filled story with a bit of romance (would have loved a bit more between Dawson and Amelia....), then this is a book for you.
Oh, lastly.......I so wanted a HEA for Dawson & Amelia at the end....but it kind of ends with....did they get it or not?????? Guess that's another Sandra Brown Twist!!!!!!

A well crafted and steamy novel in the genre of romantic suspense. Normally my eyes just bounce off the scads of Brown’s books that come in my path. But I screen a lot of books with a neighbor couple, and both were enthused over this one, The man shares my interest in the best of action thrillers and hard boiled detective fare (think Lee Child or Michael Connelly), while the woman helps me find family dramas and comic human interest tales (from Evanovitch to The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry). I’m glad I didn’t ignore their convergence on this most recent Brown. I almost stretched to 4 stars, but that would leave little room to the top for my favored police procedurals.
It was a fair diversion in my focus to be just as concerned about the ultimate consummation of the main characters as the resolution of the mysteries that have them running scared. In the story here Scott Dawson is a journalist recovering from a long tour of the war in Afghanistan who takes up coverage of a trial of the presumed murder of a veteran sniper in that war in Savannah, Georgia, at the request of his friend and godfather in the FBI. The soldier, Jeremy Wesson, had been acting out a case of PTSD--drinking, abusing his family, and getting in the middle of a love triangle with another couple, with the result that the other man kills his wife and probably Jeremy. The draw for Scott is that he too suffers from PTSD and the analysis of blood at the scene reveals Wesson to be the son of a domestic terrorist gone missing for decades after a big shootout.
Scott begins by monitoring the abused wife of Wesson, Amelia, who is enjoying a stay at an island cottage with her two pre-school boys during a break in the trial. Scott gets caught by Amelia, but instead of backing off he worms his way into their lives due to sparks of attraction. She feels it too, but the relationship takes a long time to grow due to her mistrust of nosy journalists and his inability from is secret past to commit to relationships. When Amelia’s nanny turns up dead one stormy night, the plot kicks up a notch. The pacing is great on the unfolding mystery case and interludes with relationship building, setting the reader up for a surprising ending. I don’t think Brown would ever get one of those awards for worst sex scenes.

Deadline was my first book by Sandra Brown, and I'm so, so glad I tried her out. In fact, I had to read another one of hers right away, but am taking a break for now, as to not spoil my new-found love.
Deadline has everything a classical Romantic Suspense story should have. I didn't find any aspect lacking, despite the fact that the romance didn't have the highest priority here.
I'm in awe of this authors talent and can confirm it in every regard.
The romance is just right, with a slow development, but high ranking emotions all over the place. The relationship between Dawson and Amelia was woven perfectly into the overall story, so that I never felt that anything was missing.
Generally speaking SB can convey emotions and analytical masterpieces of characterization like very few out there. Criminal Thrillers, and Romantic Suspense stories especially, tend to forgo a sweet love development and focus on the physical side, which leads to the whole romantic part being kind of cold. Here? Not at all. I felt emotionally satisfied, and this applies not only to Amelia and Dawson as a couple, but also to Dawson's relationship to Amelia's sons.
Then there is the suspense, the thriller aspect that starts on page one and lasts until the very end. Although this should be a given in this genre, it really isn't, so it's a great feeling to be cautious and anxious and squirming and nearly peeing in ones pants when the suspense becomes unbearable.
And I was introduced to Brown's characteristic twists, which came one after another. Even though this is something to be expected when one is reading a novel by this author - or so I've heard - I'm exited to do so.
An overall well plotted, fast-paced and satisfying suspense/thriller with a healthy dose of emotionally balanced romance.

I didn't like this one as much as I liked the last. Mean Streak.
The mystery, suspense were all well done so I guess the problem lay with the "romantic" part of the romantic suspense.
It's something I noticed in both books. The lack of actual romance, the intimacy, the getting to know, falling in love, the little things. I missed these, so essentially it just felt abrupt. One day they didn't know each other and the next day they were a bona fide thing.
*shrugs*
The MCs irritated me in this one, they weren't exactly consistent in their actions and words. Like our h would be all about the kids and next she'd leave them with acquaintances for a day and over. I get that. Circumstances and all. But I don't know, the situation should have made her more jittery, the kids always on her mind, calling them up very little while.
Might just be me but it's how I felt.
So I guess it was the little stuff. (Swear I can just hear "Don't sweat the little stuff" echoing in my ear. xD)
All in all it was fun. Hope Carl rots in hell.

High praises for my first Sandra Brown novel and solid assurances that it will not be my last. It was great from beginning to end! This story incorporated moments of tenderness, sadness, revulsion, doubt, pity, humor, passion, loyalty, suspense, and much more. The characters were all believable, and they played their parts well. I loved the hero and heroine and applaud the strength they demonstrated throughout each of their personal struggles as the story unfolded.
Many of the secondary characters were delightful as well.
“They called to tell me that you’d been shot. I checked my calendar and it was clear. Having nothing else to do, I flew down.”
“Just as well flush the Viagra. I can’t move my hands. Foreplay’s out.”
She laughed softly. “The paralysis is temporary.”
“She lying?” ( he asked a person in the room)
“No. You’ll live to screw another day.”
I was completely taken by surprise at a point near the end of the book- did not see it coming at all, and while I love an epilogue- which I did get, I would have been happy had the book ended at chapter 29. Sigh!!! Well, maybe not!! ;)
I realize I am not giving an actual summary of the story. I’m not very good at doing that. Instead I just convey my feels. :D

Finally finished a book after 2 weeks. And it wasn't because this book wasn't good - it's fantastic! Book slump + no reading time makes me an unhappy bookworm, but I'm glad I picked this one up - so good!!

It has been awhile since I have loved a book so much. I seriously could not put this book down. I didn't care that we get multiple POVs, I didn't care that the book was heavy with mystery and suspense, with some budding romance put in. I simply loved it.
I have always loved murder mysteries and suspenses since I was a kid, but throw in a little romance and steam, and I am SOLD! Now on a scale of 1-10, I'd say this has about 4-5 steam level. There is definitely some steamy moments and LOTS of sexual tension, just not a lot of sex. But I found myself okay with it because I loved the story and how it was presented.
Being someone that has literally read HUNDREDS of books, guessing plot lines is usually pretty easy for me. I have to say there were two twists in this particular book, that I literally didn't see coming! Looking back, I did see a few things that did stand out to me related to these twists, but I just didn't see that is where the information would lead. I would say that's a damn good book if you can do that to me! :D

Deadline by Sandra Brown is a Grand Central Publication and will be released on September 24, 2013.
Amelia is a widow with two children. She has removed herself from public life as much as possible. Her deceased husband, Jeremy, was murdered by his lover's husband and now Amelia is having to testify at his trial.
This has brought out reporters and other media, causing Amelia to attempt to keep a low profile.
However, she never suspects someone would go so far as to move in right next door and break in to her home and spy on her. Which is exactly what Dawson did, and he got he caught- by Amelia.
Dawson, like Amelia's former husband, is suffering for PTSD. Dawson was a reporter covering the war effort. He came home with horrible nightmares and has resorted to popping pills and drinking too much.
When he gets a phone call about covering this trial, he has other reasons for agreeing to it. He never expected to be so drawn to Amelia or her two boys.
Amelia is furious at being spied on, so she and Dawson get off to a rather rocky start. But, Amelia's boys just love Dawson and before long, Amelia grudgingly opens up to Dawson a little.
However, there have been some rather odd occurrences going on around Amelia's home. She suspects Dawson at first, but he swears he knows nothing about it.
Then during a storm, when Amelia's nanny goes into to town for some supplies and never comes back, the investigation opens up the possibility that Jeremy may not have been murdered by his lover's husband after all.
While we are pondering on all that, we are given excepts into Jeremy's childhood through a diary his mother kept. Jeremy's parents were vigilantes and his father was particularly cruel.
Jeremy didn't fit in with that lifestyle so his parents gave him to a friend to raise.
Things might have been alright with Jeremy, but he came back from the war a changed man. Or did he?
Since Jeremy's father, Carl, was never found, was it possibly the two of them finally met after Jeremy became an adult? What impact would it have on him to know his father was a killer?
Amelia never knew anything about Jeremy's past, but she is quickly getting a lesson from Dawson of all people.
This would have to be one of the most different novels by Sandra Brown that I have read. This one called attention to the horrors and realities of war. The PTSD suffered by men and women who see things we couldn't possibly imagine and the effect that has on their coping mechanism.
The plot is twisted. So many lives were manipulated by one hard, cold, killer. A man hunt that has lasted for years, the danger Amelia and her sons are in, and the secrets Dawson are keeping, has the suspense mounting.
The feelings that develop between Dawson and Amelia can only grow once Dawson is able to come to some kind of peace in regards to his past. Not only about his PTSD, but about his heritage. I loved the way he managed to use his gifts as a reporter to bring about closure, not only for himself, but for many others as well.
This is a multi-layered story with Brown's usual twist and turn type romantic suspense, but there were many other issues at hand in this one. I recommend this one to all the lovers of romantic suspense and mysteries, but this one could also appeal to those that like women's fiction and contemporary romance.

Deadline is a standalone novel written by author Sandra Brown. I have only recently discovered this very seasoned author and have been wanting to read more from her. While researching her different novels, I read some of her online interviews that were posted while she was marketing her 2013 release of Deadline. I decided to read Deadline simply because of where Ms. Brown's inspiration came from. Based on one of the interviews, Ms. Brown participated in a 2011 USO tour to Afghanistan for a meet-and-greet with the troops. Based on her experiences during the tour, she decided to pay tribute to the civilians who also serve in Afghanistan and return home with PTSD.
The hero in Deadline is a journalist who has been covering the war for nine months, and after witnessing a particularly horrific event, he returns home with PTSD. His character was well-written, but the book is not just about his personal struggle. It actually has a lot going on! There's some courtroom drama, domestic terrorism, FBI's most wanted, murder mystery, some historical components, and a bit of romance. However, when I say romance, let me be clear that Deadline is a thriller mystery first, and a romantic suspense second. Most of the books I enjoy have the romance element first, so this story setup was a bit different for me. When I realized this book was not my preferred genre, I planned to set it aside as DNF. But remembering how much I enjoyed Ms. Brown's latest book Mean Streak, I decided to stick it out. I didn't love Deadline, but that's only because of my lack of compatibility with the primary genre. However, there is a pretty significant twist at the end that blew my mind!!! ...and I ended up forgetting about all those earlier bits that had me zoning out. So instead of a 2 star rating (which was where I was heading), I raised it to 3.5, rounding up to 4 on goodreads. The twist was that good in my opinion. I am so excited to see what else this author has written. What I have learned about her writing so far is that every book is a new and different experience. If you love a good thriller mystery with a flawed but strong male lead, then consider reading Deadline...and get ready for your mind to be blown!

Through my second sister, I got to know Sandra Brown. Her books used to be the ones I read first. Mcnaught, Robert, Miller, Spencer were always 2nd best. Now however, if I have a Lee Winter book next to Sandra Brown's. I'll devour Ms. Winter's first then only Ms.Brown's.
In this story, I found the hero, Dawson Scott as the main attraction. He was different from the rest of Brown's heroes. Yes, he had zombies in his closet, a typical characterization but he was hardly an asshole, he was laid back, a sharp reporter and when he cared, he cared deeply.
The plot, interersting. It had a father and son killer combo and they had connections with Amelia and Dawson so that was the major issue. Loads of Sandra Brown's trademarks that you'd know that she was the author even though her name was not printed on any of the pages+missing covers. For her romance thriller, I would say that this is my most favorite. Give it a read, hope that you'll love it too.

Dawson Scott, a well-respected journalist, is persuaded by his godfather and friend, Gary Headley, to go to Savannah Georgia and check out the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife and her lover. Amelia Nolan is the ex-wife of the murdered man and the mother of his two sons. But her ex-husband's body was never found and there is so much more to the story and it began nearly forty years before.
I really enjoyed this book. For a while it felt a little predictable but then Ms. Brown threw a few surprises at us. It grabbed me from the beginning and held on tight through the whole book. There was more suspense than romance but I didn't think the romance suffered too much. I would happily recommend this to Romantic Suspense lovers.

A book with a logical, interesting action and with intelligent, sensible people.
I liked it. I liked it very much!
The story was engrossing and intriguing, nicely paced and with nice writing without an overtly complicated sentences. It was a joy to read.
The love story was perfectly set in the story: not too much and not to few. Just perfect! The hotness factor was also very nice and perfectly timed.
I remembered why I like this author! ;)

A fantastic thriller. It's all plausible. There are so many twists - family, military, psychological, relationship, fbi, and the children involved.
Sandra Brown is now a new favourite author of mine.

I won a signed copy of this book, and it finally came in the mail last week. This book is absolutely incredible, and so much better than I was expecting. It was the very first book from Sandra Brown that I have ever read and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors. She has a way with words that is so moving, and touching, and suspenseful. This story had me hooked from the beginning, and I immediately took a liking to Dawson's character. I really loved the relationship between Dawson and Amelia, and I was rooting for them to end up together the whole time. I also really loved Dawson's relationship with Grant and Hunter, and it was insanely adorable to see him play with them all the time. From about page 160 through the end of the book, the plot twists keep coming on-stop which made it a very entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and that ending blew me away, and I did not see that coming at all. So incredible! Even though Dawson's character could be rude at time, I knew he was just troubled and he was trying to do the right thing, and as it turns out, he had all the right reasons for behaving the way he did. He was such a developed, and intriguing character, and I felt so sorry for him towards the end. I loved the romantic scenes between him and Amelia, and I just adored them both in general. It only took me 4 days to read this, and I'm a slow reader, so that's how you know it's good. This won't be the last book I'll be reading from Sandra Brown.
