The suspense was pretty good on this one, and I didn't figure out whodunnit before the reveal, though I had several theories at various points through the story.
I didn't connect with the characters as much as I'd hoped to, though. Both Nick and Rachel seemed to be bordering on one-dimensional, and Joey came across as a fair bit younger than the 9 year old he was supposed to be.
But, the encouraging way Nick had in telling Rachel (and later Joey) about what it meant to have faith in God was quite sweet.

Nick and Rachel met once before when he was trying to get information on her ex-husband. Not having seen him in over seven years she hadn't been able to help him. But now she's receiving threatening notes and phone calls and is convinced it's connected to the mafia and her ex. She contacts Nick and within hours her son is kidnapped and she finds herself spending her time with Nick trying to find her son. Lots of action and questions about the mafia connection or if it might possibly be connected to her pharmaceutical work. Attention grabbing, page turning suspense at its best.

Rachel Simon is receiving threatening notes and then her son is kidnapped when someone forces her off the road and she is trapped in the car. She must come up with $10 million dollars for ransom and no police. She calls Nick Butler a detective she has dealt with before for help. He tries to protect and and figure out who has taken her son and why! Will they stay safe? Will they figure out who took her son and get him back safely? Is it someone she works with or is the mafia trying to make a resurgence with her money?

The relationship between Rachel and Nick felt natural, but the actual bad guys were not foreshadowed enough and came as too much of a shock at the end. I did like how Rachel's son Joey helped unite the couple.

Good for Vacation read

Rachel Simon is CEO of the company and they do produce drugs. The latest is one for diabetes and after a few years things turn up that put the company in turmoil.
She had started to get threatening letters and just before her son Joey was kidnapped she had called on the detective that had helped previously with her ex husband's case. Problem was he wasn't there when the accident happened.
The kidnappers demand a millions and it's up to her to get it fast and she learns more things. Many leads arise that have her turning towards the Mafia that want her son but others that are helping say it's someone in her company.
Very action packed and a light romance and danger. Love how Nick is able to help protect her as they both have feelings for one another. Through the whole book there is a lot of faith and hope and praying to God along with talk of always talking to him.
Loved learning of the woods and deer information that is brought up.
I won this book in a facebook holiday bash and giveaway from the author.

I remember Nick Butler and Rachel Simon from Laura Scott's previous books, and I'm glad they got their own story in HER MISTLETOE PROTECTOR.

Selling all shares of her company to raise the ransom of one million dollars seems a small price to pay for her little boy's life. But she knows she needs Detective Butler's help for Joey to return home safe and sound, as well as to catch the villain. After losing his own family, Nick will put his life on the line for Rachel and Joey. But once hurt, will he risk his heart again?

When my wife suggested I read these "love inspired suspense" novels, I was reluctant, as I felt they would be nothing more than excuses for hitting me repeatedly with trite fundamentalism and bad theology. I have been surprised. However, this book was the book I feared. This was a religious tract dressed up as a not very good story, platitudinous and simplistic.

It took me so long to read this book because I just couldn't get into it. Suspense isn't my style and I failed to see the chemistry between the main characters.
