Virginia was born near the Rocky Mountains and although she has traveled around the world, the wilds of Colorado run in her veins. A big fan of the wide open sky and all four seasons, she believes in embracing the small moments of everyday life. A home schooling mom of six young children who rarely wear shoes, those moments usually involve a lot of noise, a lot of mess, or a whole bunch of warm cookies. Virginia holds degrees in Linguistics and Religious Studies from the University of Oregon. She lives with her habanero-eating husband, Crusberto, who is her polar opposite in all things except faith. They've learned to speak in short-hand code and look forward to the day they can actually finish a sentence. In the meantime, Virginia thanks God for the laughter and abundance of hugs that fill her day as she plots her next book.

Fair warning: I read everything! Well, maybe not erotica and horror, but I do read widely and often. I don't usually review every book I read (more often, I don't review) but my reviews cover everything from children's lit to Christian romance to YA to women's fiction to crime procedurals to mysteries to... you get the idea!

"Season of Hope" was an absolutely wonderful Christmas story about love, family, helping others less fortunate, following your God-given purpose, facing your fears, forgiveness, and last but not least, hope. This was my first Virginia Carmichael novel, and it certainly did not disappoint. I look forward to reading many more of her novels in the future. "Season of Hope" is definitely worth reading. You won't regret it!

Season of Hope by Virginia Carmichael

A Christmas story where two meet at mission where they do volunteer work,
Gavin is reluctant to become more then friends at first.
This was a very good book focusing on second chances and how we can rise above our past mistakes with God's grace. It is also a great way to show that even big mistakes can be used to better others if we are willing to try.

I really wouldn’t classify this as a “Christmas Story “ as the only Christmasy thing was it took place in December. The characters were likable for the most part. At times the book dragged and then the ending seemed a bit rushed.

"Season of Hope" is a clean, well-written, and engaging love story by prolific and talented Christian romance novelist Virginia Carmichael.

In this age of romantic fiction that often revolves around explicit and gratuitous love scenes, this book swims against that tide and instead gives the reader an inspiring tale with a whole lot more depth to it. Through the well-drawn characters of principled Dr. Gavin Sawyer and beautiful newspaper owner Evie Thorne (who has made ethical mistakes in her career in the past, and is haunted by them still), it presents two people who are interested in something much deeper than a one-night-stand.

The novel also explores the Christian understanding of redemption and forgiveness--and it illustrates beautifully that no matter how far, in our human weakness, we might fall, we all deserve the chance to be forgiven and loved.

Set during the Christmas holidays, "Season of Hope" would make a great book with which to curl up on the couch, sipping a nice hot cup of coffee, on a cold December day. (Coffee optional --but highly recommended!) It's a quick, entertaining read with a love story sweet enough to satisfy the cravings of any romance genre enthusiast.

I really like how Season of Hope revived some of the characters from the first book, Season of Joy, and told more of their stories as well as telling the stories of the new cast of characters. Picking up threads of other stories is not easy -- I had intended to do that with my first book, but have yet to follow through.

I did like the new characters and their stories, but somehow they did not feel quite as fleshed out or sympathetic as the returning cast. Even so, this book made a delightful Christmas read (even if it was romantic fiction).

Actual rating: 4.5 stars, but I round up.

Season Of Hope by Virginia Carmichael was a VERY GOOD BOOK. Gavin volunteers at a Mission in his spare time. He works at a medical center. He is trying to get the word out for kids to get their shots. Journalist, Evie, also volunteers at the Mission. She helps Gavin get the word out. But....Evie has a past, that has to do with Gavin's sister. Was a good message there about kids getting their shots. Enjoyed the book.

I enjoyed reading Gavin and Evie's story. I also think it was an appropriate introduction to Jack, who is featured in the next story (A Home for Her Family). I also liked Allison and Sean and hope they'll get their own 'happily ever after' sometime! :)
I think I liked the theme of this book most of all: forgiveness, grace, and hope!

I really liked the plot of the story, the parts where God's grace is sufficient and erases all sins and pasts is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone.
