Carolyn Fulgenzi was born on 28 July 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, USA, daughter of Janet (McLaughlin) and Andrew Fulgenzi. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and completed her undergraduate education at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She continued her studies attending Syracuse University receiving her Master’s in English Education. After retiring as a teacher with the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, she joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an adjunct professor in the writing department. Concurrently, she was also teaching at Onondaga Community College.
Carolyn blamed her tenth grade English teacher for nudging her into the writer's life. Sister Rose Terrence insisted that she enter a short story contest sponsored by the Detroit News, and Cara won! Of course, she was thrilled with the award -- a dictionary that still sits on her desk -- but at that time, her goal in life was to become an actress, and eventually, she attained that goal. She married Mr Hanlon, and had three sons: Kevin D., Brian A, and Brendan J. Hanlon. Only after her three sons were born that she turned her full attention to writing again. She sold her first Temptation to Harlequin in 1994, and that book, C.J.'s Defense as Carolyn Andrews, also sits on her desk -- right next to the dictionary. Since 2000, she wrote under the pseudonym of Cara Summers. She believed that her background in theater had influenced her writing, allowing her to create new characters and bring them to life for the reader. She passed away on 10 September 2013.
I haven't read the first two books in the series. Triplet brotherrs- all in special forces/secret service etc - fall for 3 sisters while trying to find a hidden treasure. it is also the story of Eleanor and Angus, lovers who fled 18th century Scotland and were married for 50 years. Eleanor has left behind her diaries, a wonderful portrait where she is wearing fabulous sapphires and a mystery of their disappearance. In the prologue the old Eleanor forsees the future, when three young women look for the jewels. While looking foir the jewels, Adair and Piper fall in love with Cameron and Duncan .Now it 's the turn of Nell (Eleanor ? ) to seek the necklace. Someone sends her blackmail letters, demanding she finds the stones in 48 bours. At the same tim e Piper is almost hit by a speeding driver. The ooldest twin, Reid, decides to check the situatiion, thinking he can resist Nell's charms. Who is the rightful owner of the sapphires and who wants them to themselves ? Who has burned a library in Eleanor's ancestral home and why ? Are there coincidences ? I felt the story isn't really finished- no epilogue. Is there the story of aunt Viola and Daryl as a separate book ? What about the respective parents of the sisters and the triplets ?
This story required a little suspension of disbelief with the blending of some paranormal elements but it was well done & I quite enjoyed it. I did not realize before starting that this was part of a series, which becomes apparent with the interactions of support characters while reading, but it's okay as a stand alone too. Although I would have liked to have read the other two sisters' stories. Overall, it was an enjoyable tale with a little romance, a little intrigue, a little danger, and a nice HEA.
Cara Summers' Blaze novel blends a bit of the supernatural with a suspenseful romance. Not having read prior titles that have brought the brothers of hero Reid Sutherland together with their lady loves left me without what is clearly a throughline that I would have enjoyed (no fault of Ms. Summers, or course!). A number of varied and interesting secondary characters enhanced the book and moments of high tension as well as romance made for a solid read.
