Spindles And Spells: A Fairy Tale Retelling Of Sleeping Beauty 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I really enjoyed this retelling of Sleeping Beauty and the story for Briar Rose and Walter. This series has been really enjoyable so far with excellent world building and character development. While each story can be read as a standalone reading them together allows you to get to know some of the characters better by getting more backstory for characters whose stories are ahead as well as glimpses into how other characters whose stories have happened are doing later. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Pumpkins And Proms: A Fairy Tale Retelling Of Cinderella 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This was a fun Retelling Of Cinderella and a great addition to the Grimm Academy Series. Each story can be enjoyed on it's own but are more enjoyable when you read more of the series since some of the characters show up in multiple books.
Tower of Thorns book 1: A retelling of the Rapunzel fairy tale. Set in Grimm Academy Rapunzel is brought by her mother supposedly to avoid her prophecy think the curses from the originals. Rapunzel views this not as a prison but an opportunity to be free from the oppressive life her mother kept her in. She quickly makes friends a finds her handsome fellow. A sweet and romantic take on the tale. Hea included.
Spindles and Spells book 2: Princess Briar’s tale and a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty. Briar has been adamant in her belief that prophecies are not real. She’s just as adamant in her desire to get her father to name her as his heir. Enter Grimm Academy. Briar compromises with her parents if she goes to Grimm her father will consider her request. While she is a somewhat unwilling student at first the more time she’s there the better she enjoys it. She makes friends, finds a special guy and has classes that challenge and enlighten her. The only drawback is Aramantha. Briar is given the task to be her new student guide but she feels there is something off about the girl. When the signs of her prophecy start to appear the more she suspects the new girl. Now Briar will need her friends more than ever if she’s to escape the destiny that her prophecy foretold. Exciting and entertaining retelling of a classic tale. I love the creative changes within the story while not changing the core of it. And who doesn’t love a good hea?
Pumpkins and Proms book 3: Ella’s story and a retelling of Cinderella. A sweet and kind girl, friendly, helpful, determined, smart all things that can be said to describe Ella. A girl with a prophecy that hangs over her head and a horrid step mother who’s banished her from her home but who doesn’t let that change her or make her bitter. When the clock starts ticking on her prophecy the friends she’s made gather round her and are ready to do whatever they can to make sure that the curse doesn’t come to pass. I love this series. The books are familiar in that we can recognize the parts of the fairy tales from our youths. Yet they are unique and special stories about young women in difficult circumstances. I enjoy the camaraderie between the friends and how they all pitch in to help and encourage each other. An enjoyable read all around.

This was a lovely collection of 3 well-known fairy tales retold in an Academy setting. The characters from the different tales all integrate into each other's stories and make the world feel very alive and responsive. I preferred book 2 as an introduction to the series vs. book 1, but still really love the world of Grimm Academy and will continue on.
1. Tower of Thorns: A very cute and sweet start to this series. I wish we had a little more explanation of how Grimm Academy came into being, and how it works, but as far as a quick fairy tale retelling of Rapunzel, I really enjoyed the tale.
2. Spindles and Spells: A wonderful and quick retelling of Sleeping Beauty! It's always been my favorite fairy tale (and Disney movie), enough that our wedding dance was waltzed to Once Upon a Dream. This retelling kept true enough to the personalities of the characters, while integrating them into the Grimm Academy world with ease. I read this after reading Tower of Thorns (the current book 1 in the series) but I feel that this installment would make a better book 1 and introduction to the series as there was a bit more explanation of how the Academy worked which I felt was lacking a little in Tower of Thorns. Without giving spoilers, I really appreciated the way the prophecies could be re-imagined over and over depending on circumstances and players. A solid retelling and a new favorite.
3. Pumpkins and Proms: Will Cinderella make it to the ball...and survive? This was a wonderful retelling with harming characters. I continue to enjoy the way the different fairy tale characters are able to integrate with each other at Grimm Academy, and it all flows together so well. Even knowing how these fairy tales are going to end, the author still manages to make the scenes exciting and suspenseful. Another solid installment to the series.
The author has given us an interesting selection of stories with this collection. Each story is a Fairy Tale retelling of the students attending the Grimm Academy in order to avoid their prophecy.
