The Truth is a weak thing. It has no power. The only power the Truth holds is the power we grant it.
The conspiracy is over. A deep draught was taken from the bitter cup of revenge. But not all is what it seems. Deceptions, new and old, unfold in this dramatic third book in the WAHRHEIT series.
AC Cobble is the author of Wahrheit, The King's Ranger, Benjamin Ashwood, and The Cartographer series. Signed print copies of all of his books are available at Merrick Bookshop:
Wahrheit is a classic epic fantasy adventure. It is packed full of political intrigue, epic battles, spies & assassins, ancient magic, a little humor, a young man and woman against impossible odds, and dragons. If you liked AC Cobble's other books, you will love this series.
The King's Ranger is a clean, action-packed adventure. Rew, the titular ranger, wants only to manage the wilderness he is responsible for, but the arrival of three youths in his jail cell force him to embark on an epic journey. To protect the youths, he's forced to confront a darkness in his past and join a swirling conflict that will envelope the entire kingdom.
Benjamin Ashwood is AC's take on the classic farm boy with a sword fantasy story. It starts much like they all do, but in Ben's world like the real world, heroes are made not born, and the good guys don't always win. Try it today and find out why this series has sold hundreds of thousands of copies!
The Cartographer is a little sexier and a little darker, but has the same sense of fun and adventure as Benjamin Ashwood. Think world spanning travel and exploration, occult rituals, dark seductresses, bodies dropping like flies, and bar fights. Fans of Rhys will love Oliver and Sam. Join the adventure today!

This book was superior to book 2, in my humble opinion. (Book 2 had a little too much...revenge...for my tastes, haha.)
Deception lives up to its name, as this book is rife with it. There's a lot of sleight of hand going on among different factions, and as the story goes on we learn that our main cast of characters are destined to be the 6 paladins who can save mankind from the fae. Their success is yet to be determined, as we learn that the fae are more insidious than even our stalwart heroes expected...
I'm a huge AC fan and have been in his Advanced Reader group for several years, and I am a Patreon and GoFundMe supporter. Except for one book, I've always given AC an enthusiastic five stars - why is this two stars?
Readers follow authors because they like their writing style. Unfortunately, AC has drastically changed his writing style in Wahrheit. I don't see Benjamin Ashwood or King's Ranger in this series. It's as if he had someone else (who lives in a DARK PLACE) write it for him. Everything positive from BA and KR is removed. This series is NOT fun, with easy-to-follow humorous plots filled with hope and boundless adventure. AC dipped into the darker side with the Cartographer series and went all in with Wahrheit.
Wahrheit is deeply, deeply complex. The twists, turns, complex intrigue, and insane plots and subplots are challenging to follow. He'll spend pages describing the political intrigue of how the queen cannot trust her advisor, this land baron, or that king or the minister of intelligence but maybe the Dragon Rider, or on and on and on. Honestly, it gets overwhelming. Worse, when fighting starts, AC often ends the chapter! Sometimes it will be several chapters later before we learn what happened. Really???
Next, there is ZERO humor, ZERO hope, ZERO joy; it's only dark, more dark, and extremely dark! AC has also introduced graphic same-sex scenes between men. I don't like reading about gay sex and found it offensive and unnecessary (IMO). It left me feeling gross and dirty.
Lastly, I love Elves, Dwarves, and fairies. In Wahrheit, they are evil, evil, evil! I like insanely, horribly evil who want to kill all humanity - really???
However, this is AC's BEST series from an author's standpoint. He has gone far outside what writers in the genre lean on (such as Elves, Dwarves, and Fairies are generally good!) AC has invested tremendous time into building his world - he's gone deep, and it shows. The world is natural and harsh to the point that you feel and hear what is happening around you. It's like one of those highly acclaimed, artsy Academy Award movies few people see, but those who appreciate the arts LOVE It! I'm a Guardians of the Galaxy, Top Gun - good guys vs. bad guys person. Strictly what Benjamin Ashwood and Kings Ranger catered to, this is "Everything Everywhere All at Once" - a movie I would never see.
In conclusion, I profoundly respect AC for what he has created. He's grown as an author. Unfortunately, AC has risen above my tastes. My simple tastes strive towards heroes, humor, joy, kindness, fun adventure, and hope - all missing in Wahrheit. Don't read this book or series if this is what you enjoy. If you love George R R Martin and felt BA was simple and predictable - I expect you'll LOVE this series.
AC, it pains me to leave this review. You've always said to say what we feel - good or bad. I know you are proud of Wahrheit, and you should be. I respect your conviction to step out and take your art to a new level. I am confident you'll find many new readers who appreciate your unique writing style. I wish you all the best; you deserve it.
Solid 4-4.5 rating. I really like the characters and their development. I like the pacing and action. A very good book.
I've said this about the prior books, but I still think there are too many characters and several get lost in this book. The books need to be a little bit longer to accommodate the crowded field of characters, pick a primary character or two for each book, or reduce the number of characters.
After Finishing reading Book 3 Deception of the Series, I was happy the story just kept going, I'm now reading Book 4 Betrayal, I find these longer type stories 3 / 4 or even longer are great reading they keep me interested for a much longer time instead of starting a New short story, I can highly recommend Series written by A C Cobble he just writes Great stories Laurie S
Excellent third book in the series. Enjoying the continued intrigue while pieces of the puzzle are slowly revealed. Enjoying Ulrick’s role and journey as part of this story. Very much looking forward to the continuation of this story.
These books have been consistently engaging and entertaining. Truly unputdownable! I can’t wait to continue the next phase of the adventure. Each character is well developed and has their unique motivations. Great reading!
Great book! Entertaining and interesting, with well thought out story lines. The characters and plots are intriguing and fun, and the imaginative twists and turns are very well executed!
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Enjoyable. Definitely a middle of the series book, with lots of set up and getting to know the characters better, but it was loads of fun and I wanted it to keep going. Looking forward to the next book!
So after the mercenaries attack the Dragon Knights and kidnap an apprentice, what does the captain do?? He went on a dinner date and get laid!! He didn't go back to the fort, he didn't investigate it. He went to get laid.
