I received an arc in exchange for a honest review.
What Happens in Ireland starts with Kate Barrows on her first night in Ireland. After dreaming about this trip, she has finally arrived, ready to live and work in Ireland. On her first night, she meets Jack, charming, sexy as sin and confident, as much as she is drawn to him, he reminds her too much of her past and the betrayal she still feels. With little more than a kiss from the sexy Irish stranger she is on her way to her new life and home. The last thing she expects is for the Irish stranger to be none other than her boss who she meets on her first day at work.

Jack O'Reilly is confident, self assured and is attracted to Kate from their first meeting, he realises who Kate is and can't help himself from pursuing her, where Kate needs convincing whether she should take a chance on Jack and a relationship, Jack knows what he wants from their first meeting.

Kate and Jack are sassy, sharp witted and strong characters that you can't help loving, having William, Jennie and Tom only sweetens the pot in terms of character development and likeability. What Happens in Ireland, has just enough angst to keep you cheering for Kate & Jack while remaining real, other moments are laugh out loud funny and in turn heart warming, I thoroughly enjoyed What Happens in Ireland, and I look forward to reading William's story in Deceive Me in Ireland. Congratulations Whitney K.E. on a beautiful story.

While I loved the concept of a young girl getting away from home, and exploring the world, Kate’s stubborn ability to hold on to the past really got under my skin. I’ll be the first to admit you never forget your true love, but four years is a long time to let a teenage romance dictate.

What Happens In Ireland is the debut novel, and the first in a series, for Australian Author Whitney K.E. It revolves around Kate, an Aussie who has always wanted to travel and gets offered the job of a lifetime on a stud farm in Killarney. On her first night in the country, Kate meets a charming young Irish lad and as they say the rest is history.

What Happens in Ireland is a fun, witty and flirty read that just oozes sexual tension. It features believable (and highly entertaining) characters cast upon a wondrous and beautifully described exotic backdrop facing every day trials and tribulations. The character’s are easy to connect with, and the events of the narrative are expertly paced. It’s a story about love and friendship, and finding that special someone who might just be worth the chance and heartache. What’s most surprising about this novel is the command that Whitney has over the English language and the way she has beautifully crafted this narrative. Being a young Australian author, with this being her first novel, I can’t help but take my hat off to a young and remarkable talent that I’m sure we will see great things from in the future.

With vibrant backdrops and gorgeous descriptions about meadows and rolling green fields, I cant think of more perfect and exotic location to set a rural romance story. And what a story it is. Not as fast paced as many other romance novels I’ve read lately, What Happens In Ireland, lets you fall in love with the characters and their surroundings as the characters themselves fall in love. It’s perfectly paced with a slow decent into a mind blowing romance, but with just enough – and by just enough, I mean excessively oozing in the right way – chemistry and sexual tension. Right from the start Jack wants Kate and he’ll do just about anything he can to make her believe she’s good enough, that he is good enough. But Kate’s still hesitant, and although she can’t deny her body’s physical responses to the irresistible man before her, she’s not ready to get involved in any shape or form. Especially not emotionally. She won’t allow it. What follows is a balanced love story that will leave romantics wanting more.

What Happens in Ireland features a strong cast of energetic and witty characters, who are full of life and charm. Kate and Jack are two strong, like minded and stubborn characters who know what they want; the difference being that only one is ready and willing to put everything out there on the line for a chance at true love. With an array of vibrant and warm supporting characters such as William, Jennie and Tom, there’s not a lot missing from this fantastic mix of personalities who immediately make you feel at home.

One of my favourite aspects of this book, is the interactions between the characters. At his heart, this narrative is witty and hilarious, with the characters more often than not trying to out do themselves. No one takes themselves too seriously and there’s a warmth in that that becomes endearing. Likewise, this novel is set in Ireland and it showcases some of the Irish traditions and legends in an authentic way that never feels forced. Whitney K.E’s passion for both her writing and the Irish culture really shines through the narrative and it’s hard not to fall in love with the characters and the narrative in turn. It’s clear that Whitney has gone to great lengths to capture the very essence of Ireland and it’s culture, while staying clear of stereotypes and yet staying true to the heart of the country. This is most obvious through the flawless portrayal of the Irish dialect throughout the novel that really makes you feel as you are witnessing everything that Kate does.

My only issue with this narrative was the slight repetition of Kate’s backstory. Having been hurt years before by an old boyfriend named Michael, Kate is cautious when it comes to love, and wary when it comes to Jack’s charismatic Irish charm. A point that often puts her on edge when her ever present boss is around. Although we learn a bit about Michael and Kate’s issue with him, I never felt we really got the entire story. Which was unfortunate, because at times I felt it held me back as a reader trying to connect to Kate and understand her actions. And it might just be my reading of it, but I never thought Jack was informed about it either, so when Jack brings up Kate’s fears and her past, I was surprised and alarmed in many ways because the whole issue of Michael was brushed over. However, this was a minor flaw in the narrative at large.

With quick and witty comebacks and riddles galore it’s hard not to fall in love with the main characters. What’s more, Whitney’s suburb use of dialect and dialogue makes you feel as though you have fallen through the pages and are in Ireland yourself. So sit back and enjoy a glass of whiskey as Kate and Jack and the cheerful Irish gang take you along for the ride. You won’t be disappointed.

Beautifully written, and well crafted, What Happens In Ireland is not to be missed by die hard romantics or lovers of everything Irish.

Deceive Me In Ireland, book two in the series is due for release January 29, 2014.

WHAT HAPPENS IN IRELAND is the debut romance novel by Whitney K-E (Whitney Keevers Eastman), an Australian romance author. With a picturesque setting in Ireland and an Irish hero, I, an expat Irish woman, was more than a little interested to read this book.

And a lovely read it is too. Unashamedly romantic and sentimental in parts, hot and steamy in others. Now the steaminess comes in towards the end of the book, when the romance heats up. If you're a person who prefers sweet romance, you might like to keep that in mind. But honestly, I wouldn't let that put me off reading a good book. I have no hesitation at all in recommending this novel to readers of romance fiction. And in particular, to readers of romance who love Ireland.

The characters are memorable and attractive. Kate Barrow, a young Australian who is an accomplished and experienced horsewoman, arrives in Ireland to take up a job in a stud farm in Killarney, a job which she's acquired through contacts in the equestrian world. She arrives in Ireland with some preconceived notions that the Irish must all be like leprechauns and that they're drunk 24/7. But she's soon disabused of that particular notion not long after her arrival. She meets a certain Irishman who sets her heart a flutter and her pulse racing. Although they separate soon after they first meet, they're reunited in a most unexpected and surprising way. Jack O'Reilly is not only ruggedly handsome, he's witty and talks in riddles continuously and he never ceases to exasperate and intrigue the young Australian woman in equal measure. And therein lies the USP of the novel. Jack's a silver tongued charmer all right. He has what it takes to be a lover. But does he have what it takes to be a life partner? Kate doesn't want a man to waste her time. She has issues. Serious issues involving trust and betrayal. One things's for sure - she's not going there again! But how can a woman be sure of a man who alternately romances her off her feet and teases her till she explodes with anger?

Kate's initial reaction to Jack is to resist him by putting up on iron reserve which he becomes determined to overcome. Jack's reaction is to do his darndest to melt this reserve. And that, my friends, is the basic story. I had to confess, there were a few moments when I shivered in my shoes. Kate's iron resistance to Jack's Celtic charm sometimes bordered on utter rudeness. I would never underestimate an Irishman's capacity to lose his temper, because like any man, he has self respect. Lots of it. Any woman unwise enough to test the boundaries of that self respect might find herself nursing a very sore ego. That legendary wit can have an edge which can, as we say in Ireland, cut the ground from under you. And you'd be getting away lightly!

As a romance novelist, Whitney K-E has what it takes. Both her premise and the setting are perfect. She writes of Ireland with great love and affection, you can really feel that. The setting for me is both familiar and new, because I haven't spent much time in the south west of my country, nor do I know much about the equestrian community in which the story is set. But living under the Indian sun as I do, reading this book gave me a free trip home. At first I found it a little incomprehensible that Jen Tully, one of the characters, could drive from Killarney to Dublin and back in a day. But a little research showed that with the progress the country's made in the past eighteen years since I left, the motorway system has improved transport considerably. Well, I hadn't even thought of that! How some things change.

Whether the region is Texas, Australia, Scotland or Ireland, it's not an easy task for an author to write in a foreign accent. When I write myself, I prefer plain English with an odd local word or phrase to emphasize the local touch. There's a wealthy female character in the book who also speaks in a flat, local accent. Someone like that, in my estimation, would speak in a plummy, west Brit accent. But all in all, Whitney K-E has done a commendable job here. So if you're curious to find out WHAT HAPPENS IN IRELAND, you could do a lot worse than pick this one up.

I love animals of all shapes and sizes and when I find a book that includes animals in the story line I'm in my glory. I just finished What Happens in Ireland by Whitney K.E. What a fabulous story Whitney has written! Not only does she have a way with descriptions of the beautiful land of Ireland, she has also created some charismatic characters that I had the pleasure of meeting.

Kate Barrow is a strong, sassy, spunky woman that has been hurt by a man in her past. I found myself very drawn to Kate and truly enjoyed reading her story. She does her best to keep a distance between herself and Jack but the attraction is just to strong. However the sparks they throw off while they are trying to keep their hands to themselves are quite explosive. There are also some very funny scenes that we get to see just how spunky Kate is. I have to say Kate is a lady I would enjoy chatting with about her experiences with horses. I am sure she would have some very interesting stories.

Jack O’Reilly is instantly drawn to Kate. He does his best to break down her defense and I found it so sweet some of the things he goes through and does to get her attention. Jack is just a fabulous guy who even though I was reading the words I swear I could hear his accent.

Kate & Jack go through many things before they are finally able to be together. There is plenty of tension and drama, as well as some just plain hilarious scenes between these two.

Over all I REALLY enjoyed this story. I loved all the beautiful scene's that Whitney described to us, I have never been to Ireland but I feel like I took a short trip there while I was reading this book. I loved the set, the characters, and the story line. I do believe this is Whitney's first release and I have to say I know I will be on the lookout for more books by her. I would love to see if she has a story cooking for Will (Jack's brother), or either of Kate's two friends.

If you enjoy a romance story with plenty of drama, some steamy scenes, with a beautiful setting I think you should check try this book. If you should happen to get a chance to read What Happens in Ireland, I would love to hear your thoughts. Please stop by and let me know what you think.

I was given a chance to read this book in exchange for sharing my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to read this fabulous book and share my thoughts.

Kate Barrow isn't looking for romance when she accepts a working holiday position on the O'Reilly's horse stud in Kerry. Jack O'Reilly tries to persuade her otherwise, and a right charmer he is. Kate spends much of her time fending Jack off with challenge, insult and banter, but Jack retaliates with Irish blarney and a seductive accent she can't resist. It is obvious from their first meeting that Kate won't walk away unscathed. Despite her defensive barriers, she gives in to passion so strong it has overtones of pain. She has been deeply hurt in the past. Is pain waiting for her again? Perhaps Jack is concealing failures from his own past.
With only the two main characters as a focus, the author builds their conflict slowly. There are occasional insights that suggest she is seeking a deeper portrayal of the lovers and their interaction. "Humor satisfied him for now, but what he really wanted was unbridled understanding. She had understood him. She just ... wasn't willing to admit she had."
Descriptions of Ireland's beauty and its freezing weather anchor the location. The love making scenes are realistic and Kate's struggle to overcome her resistance is not glossed over or quickly resolved. As in real life, demons affecting behaviour are slow to exorcize. Readers who are charmed by the beguiling accent of the irish will understand Kate only too well, as she thinks: "Irishmen were like male sirens ... with the sound of his husky, lilting brogue."
Whitney's second novel also has an Irish setting. With two romances already published, this 19 year old author will surely have a successful career ahead.

I wasn't sure what to expect when Whitney K.E approached the Naughty Ninjas.net requesting a review of What Happens in Ireland. I'd already seen the book around, I'd really loved the cover and I'd decided I'd love the premise... I'm usually always a fan of the "guy pursuing girl/mistaken identity" thing so I was looking forward to this read.

So, I took it on a holiday to Scotland with me and what happened was that "What Happens in Ireland" happened in Scotland! It consumed my time completely, turning into one of those holiday reads that really stand out.

Where to start in telling you about it?

I had a look through the other reviews out there for the book and I don't want to repeat the whole plot recount thing, but I can tell you what struck me in particular:

Okay, well the heroine, Kate, is really stand-up and doesn't take any crap. Something I'm very much a fan of. The hero, Jake, is yummy and, better yet, attracted to Kate from the very beginning, so there's no messing about on his part.

The tension was well done and kept the reader going, the setting was really well written. In fact, there were times when I felt like I was there, it was so well done.

I think this is a really strong first release and that Ms K.E. is going to go a long way. I'll definitely be watching out for her in the future:)

I don't normally read romance novels, however after reading the first pages of this break out novel by Whitney, I was enchanted. I was unable to put it down and read it one sitting.
Kate's quick wit and fiery disposition had me in stitches at times, and Jack's unwavering determination to capture her affections had me swooning.
I fell in love with both of them wholeheartedly, laughing and even crying, and feeling like I'd parted with two friends when I reached the end.
I can't wait for the next novel from this incredibly talented young writer. I have no doubt that we will be seeing more from her.

Jack and Kate's story was a refreshing romance. A very enjoyable read. Kate and Jack are very charismatic characters. Kate a stubborn Australian who came to Ireland for work. One night in an Irish pub she see's Jack for the first time and in that moment her life will never be the same....This was a very, soft, heartfelt read with drama, fun and hot steamy scenes making you really wanting your own Irishman.. Oh Yeah... Then being set in Ireland and how its is described makes the story more charming and warming.

A fantastic novel filled with romance, drama and a picturesque scenery of the beautiful Ireland. The characters are so easy to connect with bringing them to life right from the start. The exotic descriptions of the scenery makes you feel like you're actually there. A mix of emotions from laughter, sadness as well as desire left me wanting more and more!
Very well written, I assure you you will not be disappointed.
Looking forward to reading Whitney's next book. :)

I loved this book! It was funny and light-hearted but had at times, it's deeper more serious moments. In other words, I was crying in the last pages. The romance between the characters is easily identifiable and realistic as I too have had my fair share of inappropriately timed embarrassing moments! A really lovely, easy book to read.

What Happens In Ireland is the debut novel, and the first in a series, for Australian Author Whitney K.E. The story starts off with Kate Barrows first night in Dublin, Ireland. After dreaming about this trip for so long, she has finally arrived, ready to live and work in Ireland on a stud farm in Killarney (County Kerry).

One word to describe this book: WOW. Whitney, you've got a new fan! I absolutely loved this novel from the first page on. I couldn't put this book down. I found myself turning page after page. I didn't want it to end. Unfortunately I finished it after two days already. Jack and Kate's story was a refreshing romance. This book involves a perfect mixture of romance, drama, steamy scenes and a beautiful setting. Whitney decribes Ireland beautifully. During my staying in Ireland I have been to Kerry once. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I know the places Whitney is writing about and that made the story so real for me.

Kate and Jack are two amazing characters: attractive and enjoyable. Kate is sassy, spunky and strong willed. She does her best to keep a distance between herself and Jack but the attraction is just to strong. They are trying to keep their hands to themselves but after a while it's not working anymore. I was blown away by the sexual tension between Kate and Jack. I adored Jack. He is very confident and he knows what he wants. You can say I fell a little for him. Sometimes it felt like that he is too good for Kate. He was fighting for her til the end.

Whitney's writing style is also witty and gripping. Jack and the irish secondary characters are written with irish acctent. Some people might have to get used to it but I loved it. I heard Jack talking with that sexy irish accent in my head.

I really want to rate this book 5 stars but I can't. There was one thing which really bothered me. Kates stubborness. I wanted to slap and shake her for her stubborness and serious issues involving trust and betrayal. It really annoyed me sometimes. Let go of the past, girl!

Whitney, thank you for this wonderful book! I am dying to read the next installment in the series. It's called Deceive Me in Ireland. The story is about Kate's friend Cara and Jack's brother William.

What Happens in Ireland is a debut novel by a young author in Australia. It is a leisurely paced book that charming and fun.

The plot is to the point, but it isn't rushed. The characters and their relationship are well developed. The author takes her time portraying them as individuals and as a new couple. They are likable and realistic. Kate is spunky and independent. Jack is chivalrous and takes his time with Kate as she battles ghosts of boyfriends past. Refreshingly, Jack is not a billionaire! Thankfully, when co-worker/friend, Jenny, tells Kate that, "sometimes it's nice to let someone care about ye...", she takes it to heart and lets Jack in to hers.

The banter between the characters is deliciously flirty and fun. Although, I must admit, I did get tired of the use of "ye" by the Irish characters. I would have loved more translation of the Gaelic phrases that were thrown into the conversations. The story is primarily about the chase of the their relationship not the consummation per se. The sex scenes are delicately approached--described without being graphic.

This delightful story will appeal to romance readers. It is evident that we will be seeing more good reads from new author, Whitney K.E.

Attraction is a very hard thing to fight and Kate, a young Australia woman working on a property in Ireland, is finding it especially challenging to try and keep her distance from a very hot irishman, Jack, but its a little hard when he is her boss and constantly trying to convince her that he would well be worth it if she let her defences down. What makes it even harder for Kate is that Jack has great looks, good sense of humour and an engaging personality, any woman would find it difficult to resist his charms. My favourite part of the book was the first few chapters when Jack was trying to get on Kate's good side, using all his good natured humour to make her laugh in an attempt to get her to fall for him. I don't normally believe in love at first sight and even though it is not really described as that in this book, more attraction (until a couple of chapters down the track), I feel as if it was love between Jack and Kate, an indescribable force pulling them together with out them knowing it and I loved reading every part of every chapter with the two characters growing closer and closer. I loved everything about this book from the hilarious characters to the beautiful Irish scenery that Whitney described so well with her writing style. 4.75/5 <3 s What Happens in Ireland is an amazing book.

Overall, Whitney is a good writer. I just had a little trouble warming up to her heroine. I found Kate too...harsh of tongue and heart, at times, and that closed me off to her. I tried to find empathy for her, but I just couldn't. For a long time through the novel I found myself thinking she's not good enough for Jack - which is a shame, as all heroines should be the 'princess' of their own story, and I found I just couldn't accept her as such. I know the Taming of the Shrew story, but I want to see a good heart beneath the pain the shrew has, not the bitchiness that is the result of it. I want to feel the woman's heart, and, for most of it, all I felt was her tongue. I felt more sorry for that Brady (?) character who approached her in the pub than I did for Kate, because while she had already judged the guy as being no good, I didn't get time to check out his character for myself, and, therefore, was left thinking he was treated too harshly.

I thought Jack was great until he chose the shower over a 'quickie' (my word, not their's) with Kate, when she was just in the next room. At that stage, I lost respect for him for not choosing Kate over that. And, I may have missed something, but I never came to understand why Jack seemed so distant near the end.

This is nothing against Whitney's writing. Rather, it's the preference of my own heart.
