(thanks bob)the other from Anonymous calling me an idiot and making disparaging comments about my parentage and since I could not write him back I put my response here . I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. Thanks for reading Dab10
This is an interesting short. I have to say it’s interesting because I read the entire thing in one sitting, as in couldn’t put it down. And it is short. Amazon estimates it is 29 pages. It’s an eBook and somehow they can estimate a page count. But it had me right from the beginning. The writing style is unique. See for yourself. I’ve never read a short story before. Why now? Because our GoodReads Psychological Thrillers Thread has selected this for our Short Book of the Month for March 2015.
So I said, “What the heck?” and tried out the Kindle sample first, even though this one is about as cheap as it could be without being free. Like 99 cents. Still, I was a bit dubious, having never read an actual short story in my entire life. Soon as I reached the end of the sample, I bought the thing. No hesitation. I think the writer’s point of view, and subsequently the reader’s point of view, is completely inside the author’s head. That’s really where this story takes place. There was action outside the author’s head, but the story was inside his head. There’s no need for me to explain any more than this. You just have to go there and find out for yourself.
Now I read the entire thing while I was eating my lunch yesterday. I’d just built this spiffy stand to hold my Kindle. It’s very cool with little spongy feet. So reading while eating was an absolute breeze. And “Something Bad” by Dab10 was the perfect vehicle for breaking in my new eBook stand. You just gotta check it out. I think you will like it. Then you can come over here—
This is a R2R that was given to me in exchange for my honest review.
This book is a short one, coming in at 21 pages, with word count around 4000. The repetition is redundant, with the word “bad” being used 18 times in the first page and a half. The story is about a guy, who is aimlessly walking around on Halloween. He gets the feeling that something bad, is going to happen, but not just bad, really bad. The worst bad he has ever felt. As he is walking all these bad memories come back to him about his bad feelings. People think his bad feelings, are nonsense, and don’t heed his warnings, and bad things happen. There were a few amusing spots, but it was mostly, odd. And to be honest, I don’t even know the result, of the biggest bad feeling. It could go one way, to follow suit with the rest of the book. Or it could be a be signs of an over protective adult. I guess it’s up to the reader to decide. Thank you to the author
"Something Bad" by Dab10 is an intriguing piece of horror/ suspense writing. In a unique style of short sentence, much like a stream of consciousness, Dab10 talks about his 'feelings of something bad', a premonition of forthcoming bad events, many of which he took the blame for in his previous life. Even in the often poetic and verse like writing it is quite spooky to know of the impending doom and evil. What is amazing how we get to care for the main character even in passages when we do not know if he is good or bad. The narrative is a definite strong point as it the subsequent perspective. Once again Dab10 manages to take the story to unexpected places. The horror is more psychological than gory, very well done and again the ending is very apt. I hope to read a full length story by this author some day. Very impressive.
How many times have you had conversations with yourself? You think about stuff that's happened over the course of your life and asked yourself 'what if' or 'why did that happen?' That's exactly what Dab 10 has done in this short read. It's humorous and thought provoking and proved to be a quick read, full of life situations we've all faced at one time or another, only Dab 10 brings it to light. I've seen another of his titles that I think I'll check out next :)
