Sometimes magic can have deadly consequences. This is an epic fantasy adventure novel set in today's world. ----------------------------- Merrick has a job. A girlfriend. A life. But upon the death of his father, he learns that his past is a lie and that he belongs to an ancient species whose members command the elemental forces of nature.
Lost in an unfamiliar world of magic where even trees and rocks are sentient, he sets out on an epic journey that takes him across the globe, and even to the birthplace of the formless, ethereal dragons themselves, as he searches for his creation name—the key to unlocking his magical potential.
But Merrick’s not the only one interested in his name. His sociopathic brother, Eudroch, wants it as well, and he’s willing do whatever it takes to steal Merrick’s power, so that he can use it to fulfill a deadly prophecy.
To stop Eudroch from destroying the world, Merrick must survive his training, struggle against betrayal and treachery, and overcome the trials of the four elemental dragons, as he races to discover his true nature before it’s too late—for everyone. ----------------------------- This epic fantasy novel deals with topics such as death, but it contains no gratuitous violence. It was written for adults but is suitable for teens and young adults, ages 12+. Also, don't forget to pick up the FREE novella for the Kindle, The Applicant, the standalone fantasy prequel to The Conservation of Magic.
What does it mean to "conserve" magic? I didn't have a clue when I started reading. I do now. There were things that I liked about the book and things I did not like. The concept was interesting, but the relationships between the many characters was confusing. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been several books, each with its own conclusion, rather than so much back and forth.
