An Against The Wall novella ...

There are many words that have been used to describe Chase Marino: cheater, backstabber, dirt bag, heart breaker. He earned those titles cheating on his high school love Shelly and his co-worker Summer. He broke both their hearts and knows it’s his lot in life to make it up to them somehow. But while the ladies intend to make his life miserable, Chase is pretty good at doing it to himself. With his dad around treating him like a frat brother rather than a son, it’s easy for Chase to beat himself up over the shameful mistakes he made in the past.

That is until Tiffany Gutierrez, the new student teacher arrives. Feeling an immediate attraction to the young beauty Chase does everything in his power to fight it and do the right thing for once. But when Tiffany shows the attraction is mutual all bets are off. Chase soon realizes that while he’s teaching Tiffany how to be a good teacher, he’s learning a thing or two from her as well. Maybe it’s time to move on and let go of the past and realize that he may just deserve a real shot at love.

I'm a mom, a wife, a teacher, a reader, and a writer. I'm also an lunatic when it comes to the NFL and playing Fantasy football, especially if I don't get my first pick quarterback: Tony Romo. I never did doubt Julie but I really didn't think I'd fall in love with Chase during the Prologue! But that's just how she is. Though I am very sad to see this series come to an end, I am glad that everyone, including Chase found his One True Love. There wasn't one moment in this book where I hated Chase. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends.

deserve a real shot at love.

Chase, what can be said about him besides he is an asshole who cheats, lies and can’t seem to get over it when a girlfriend dumps his ass after he once again cheats. I couldn’t stand Chase in the first 3 books, I kept saying to myself he is going to seriously start to pay for what he did in his past and oh boy does he ever. Let’s just say payback is a bitch and when you have 3 pissed off women after you, two
you actually had relationships with, you are in for it.

Tiffany is Chase’s student teacher and she sees Chase in a different light than the other women in his life. Chase opens up to her like he never did before and she can’t help but want more from him than just being the student teacher he is supervising. Tiffany doesn’t judge Chase, she sees what lies beneath the surface. Will she be able to help Chase from repeating his past once more, or will she fall victim like the others and get her heart broken by him.

Now like I said before I hated Chase in the first 3 books, so when I started Playing Chase I didn’t have high expectations that I could ever like him. Well, I don’t like him, I love him now. When you find out his past and things he never shared before you have a better understanding of who Chase really is. He honestly felt like he deserved what was happening to him by his exes and didn’t throw a fit because he viewed it almost as a penance for his actions. When something happens that makes it look like he went back to his old ways to Tiffany you want to scream no it’s not what you think. How he finally gets Tiffany to listen to him was great. He needed Tiffany to open his eyes and show him that he is worthy of love and that he isn’t the asshole he comes across to be at times.

Playing Chase is the 4th book in this series and as I warned earlier if you haven’t read the other books in this series first you need to big time. You need to be able to see the entire picture to understand Chase now. I loved this series and I can’t believe it took me so long to read it. Put this entire series on your TBR lists people, I think you will enjoy them as much as I have.

When I got this tour invite I had yet to read one of Julie's books, but the synopsis caught my eye, "There are many words that have been used to describe Chase Marino: cheater, backstabber, dirt bag, heart breaker" I was sold, hook, line and sinker! Once I got to reading I hated Chase in the other books but I loved this novella!!! I enjoyed the changes and growth that Chase made throughout the book....it made me love Chase! 4 stars

Playing Chase is of course Chase's story. Chase was pretty much the biggest jerk ever in the other books....the cheater, the heartbreaker, the character you love to hate. Then he meets Tiffany Guiterrez, his new student teacher. Tiffany fights her immediate attraction to Chase and avoids him as much as she possibly can, because she knows Chase's history. There is no denying the attraction and chemistry this pair have. As Chase and Tiffany grow closer together, Tiffany makes Chase rethink everything and take a closer look at how he has treated the woman from his past. He knows what he has done in the past is wrong, but Chase really is just misunderstood. Can Tiffany get the sexy bad boy to change his ways? Read on to find out!

Playing Chase is the fourth book in the series and I definitely recommend you read them all. This series is passionate, fun, emotional, and I loved seeing the growth of characters throughout the series. A must read!

For a shorter story than the rest, I'm pretty surprised with how much I fell in love with Chase Maroni. If you've read the other three books in the series, Chase is a womanizing asshole who needs to be kneeled in the balls repeatedly.

Julie Prestsater did the unbelievable, the unimaginable, the thing that seemed downright impossible. Chase redeemed himself and I fell for him so easily. I laughed, I swooned, and the asshole even made me cry. Seriously, major props for Julie to turn around a character with such a short book.

That being said, this book fell a little shorter than the rest of the series (pun definitely not intended). I think that there could've been a bit more relationship development between Chase and Tiffany. He fell really fast, and it just seemed out of place at the time. I did love them together, but would've liked to have seen more of a natural progression, rather than an implied one.

So, ladies, I encourage you to read this book and understand the mind of Chase Maroni. I challenge you not to fall in love with him like I did.

If a guy can manage to take bad advice and follow through ruining his relationships, his name is Chase Marino. After yet another ruined relationship, he finds that the last three women in his life want revenge and have setup an online account with blind dates that would set your hair on end.

Chase is wallowing until he meets student teacher Tiffany Guiterrez who is a bit of an enigma with her stodgy appearance and rigid exterior. It doesn't take long to realize there is more to Tiffany than what you see and he finds himself falling hard, except he has three pissed off women who seem intent on getting in his way.

I liked this, it was humorous, charming and had me smiling all the way until the very end. This is a perfect end of summer, pick up your feet and enjoy the weather read.

Remember when I told you at NYAITC that the only book I haven't read was Playing Chase because I didn't like him a bit?
And you said: Come on Andrea, give him a chance, he is adorable.
Ok, so I gave "him" a chance, because you were so cute and nice and bubbly, me, my sister and daughter just adored you, and because I loved the first three books, Shel, Mel, Summer and the guys are the best.
I started "his" book this morning and could not put it down....I fell in love with Chase, he's cute, honest, playful, sexy and the best of all, he's real with his feelings...Tiff is a doll and they deserve each other.
Thanks for made me read it...the only thing I didn't like is that the end of the book you said it was the last in the series...I need more...
XOXO.

I really hated Chase he was this constant revolting douchebag all through out the series, and I really hated his guts the way he treated Shelly...and for awhile I hated Summer too, for her part in Shelly's heartbreak. But I've learned to love Summer when she hooked up with Dean. Thanks for stepping up to the challenge Julie, the challenge of making us turn a 180 or would it rather be 360 degrees and revising our opinion on Chase's douchebaggery, he totally redeemed himself. I guess that's the sheer magic of being an author huh? you can manipulate us and steer us on where and what state you wanted us to be.

Kudos for a wonderful series.

Ok so I disliked Chase immensely in the first three books of this series. He was the villain you loved to hate. You finally understand Chase and why he is such a douche bag! Sometimes we are our own worse enemies. By the beginning of the second chapter, I was rooting for Chase. I always feel like I am in the story when I read Julie's book. They are so relatable and love the references from current times. I found myself hilariously laughing, tearing up and overwhelmed with joy as I read this book. This was the perfect final book to the Against the Wall series. Love love loved Tiffany Gutierrez's character (I might be a little bias) LOL! I just might go out and by a pair of cowboy boots.

I'm in love with Chase. In the first three books I loathed him like OMG lemme bitch slap him! Especially in the third book, when I found out that he impregnated a girl in high school. That's why in this book, at first I was like, Tiffany don't come near him, he's a slut! But then again, when I finally know that he's not the one who did it, I'm so happy!

Every bad boy is just a boy with bad experience after all.

So thank you, Julie Prestsater, for writing a special story for Chase though it's way too short but, I take what I can get anyway. Again, you're awesome!

Wow! I never thought I would love Chase but guess what? I do! Julie turned me into a complete fan of his. We finally get to the heart of the matter and why he acts the way that he does. I just adored the way he was with Tiffany. Finding the right women will change you and it sure changed Chase. I'm sorry to see the series end but I'm anxious to see what Julie is going to give us next! She is one talented lady.

I'm glad we got to hear Chase 's story. It totally explains a lot. It's very sad to see what he had to deal with & the role model he had & it explained a lot as to why he was the way he was. Chase & Tiffany are perfect for each other. She really made him see how life should be. I wish the story would've went a little longer but it still ended on a good note. Thank you Julie for a great series!!

Julie has done it again! She made me love a character I loathed in previous books! Chase is a great guy with a big heart. I'm glad we got some insight into why he was the way he was. Tiffany is perfect for him. Halfway through I wanted to throttle Shel, Mel, and Summer but they redeemed themselves by the end.

Wow! This book was fantastic! I was very leery because I just didn't think I could possibly like Chase. I loved that he got his shit together though and he was very likable. I liked that he went back and apologized for his past wrongdoings and was able to move forward. Fantastic ending to a great series!

I love this series. Oh how I missed the banter between these women and to see them stick it to Chase here was even funnier. For Chase to allow it and use it to grow and really fall in love was impressive to read. Pretty short and sweet story and hope we get to read about this group more

When author Julie Prestater wrote Straddling the Edge and I finished it, I emailed her and asked "when's Chase's book coming out." I remember getting back a somewhat shocked reply that she had no intentions of writing his story. I pointed out that 1) everyone deserves and HEA and 2) in STE it was evident something was going on with Chase he went from just being a dochey dude-bro to out of control and a bit violent and readers needed answers. Well, the lovely Julie I guess thought about it and the result was Playing Chase. I'll admit, I wasn't sure she'd be able to redeem Chase but she did. That's not to say he didn't have a lot to attone for because he did, but we see that despite being an adult your parents can still mess with your mind, and you can turn over a new leaf. Tiffany despite being more than a decade younger than Chase was mature for her age and she had a sweet soul. I enjoyed watching her get to Chase, but also at the same time listening to him, learning about him, and also learning from him. She was attracted to him, but she also took into account his past that had been shared with her by Shelly, Summer and Mel. She is one of those people who sees the good in people, sometimes when they can't even see the good in themselves. I hated that Chase suffered a kind of emotional/verbal abuse from his father and that it screwed up his relationships and his life, but I also loved that with Tiffany by his side he began to see that he was worth more and he wanted more out of life. I enjoyed this story, I feel Julie did a fantastic job of redeeming Chase but not changing him too much.

So I’m a lucky kid. I got to read this book back and June when Julie was still drafting it. That’s what happens when you are friends with the author. And yes, that is my disclaimer. I am friends with the author. Just getting that out there so you know, but also know that my thoughts on this story have nothing to do with that friendship. I genuinely enjoyed this book.

When Julie first told me that she was going to write a 4th book in the Against the Wall series and it was going to be about Chase, I basically wanted to slap her upside the head and tell her no! Chase had to have been the worst character ever in the other 3 books. I really really hated him and how he treated Shelly and Summer. He was the biggest jerk ever. But in pure Julie fashion, she made me a believer in Chase. And by the end of Playing Chase I actually liked him and thought he was just misunderstood and it was a product of his environment that he did stupid things.

Playing Chase is the story of Chase Marino, the cheater that broke Shelly’s heart in Against the Wall and Summer’s heart in Straddling the Edge. He is selfish and a dirt bag and deserves everything he gets thrown at him from Summer, Shelly and Shelly’s best friend Mel. He knows this and has resigned himself to the fact that they plan to make his life miserable. Until Tiffany Gutierrez, his new student teacher, enters the picture. Fighting his immediate attraction to her Chase does everything he can to stay away because he knows his pattern and what he does to the women he cares about. But as Tiffany gets closer to him he starts to rethink his position and the reasons he does the same thing over and over to the women he supposedly loves.

Really Playing Chase is the epitome of a growth story. Although Chase was only a background-ish character in the first couple of books, he was a huge part of the story. Without him the girls wouldn’t have found their loves. But Chase was also just a horrible person. But Playing Chase really changes that. When you finally get to see Chase’s home life and inside his head you start to see him as a person and I think that was the truly remarkable part of this book. Without that you wouldn’t get to see the real Chase. The Chase that has feelings and worries about hurting other people. And the chemistry between Tiffany and him is so so good. I actually found myself, for the first time since meeting him, cheering him on and wanting him to get the girl and that is all thanks to Julie’s incredible story telling. She got it and made sure her readers got it.

Basically this fourth and final(?) book in the Against the Wall series was a nice finish to a fun tale of teachers and what happens outside the classroom. I loved how everything came together and how it all worked as a whole. Julie brought us on a fun and unforgettable journey that I enjoyed and I think you will too.

FTC : This review is being done as part of the tour. I had the option of not posting it until after the tour if I didn't like the book .. I did though!

I must confess, I haven't read the rest of the series so I can't comment on the character of Chase. From other reviews (and the commentary in the book), I can tell that he was a contentious character. Thing is, when I met him he had changed.

Chase is a character that is kind of stuck. Trying to reform his love rat ways, he has been on a hiatus from women. I liked Chase immediately, a man who takes his job seriously and is willing to let his furious ex-girlfriends humiliate him in the vain hope that he can atone for sins of the past. I am always one to champion a redeemable character and, as the book was written from first POV, I could immediately tell that he truly didn't want to be the man that he once was. But as I say, Chase is stuck in a viscous circle of self hate and flagellation. Then in walks Tiff.

I really liked Tiff. A straight up trainee teacher by day and a cowboy-boot wearing flirt by night, she really allowed Chase to move on and prove that he could be a better man. The chemistry between them was a constant smolder and I enjoyed the cute factor between them (P&J sandwiches anyone?). I wanted them to succeed, wanted Chase to be able to prove to himself that he wasn't his father. Of course, he screwed it up first....

Overall, I loved this novella. I loved the writing and loved the characters so it gets a 5 Star rating from me.

Ok, I have to admit, I didn't think that Julie Prestsater could write a book that would make me like Chase Marino. After reading the first three books of this series I had drawn the fact that Chase was a jerk, point blank, plain and simple. Well, now I have to say that my POV for him has done a complete three sixty, and can say he is a decent guy after all. Julie done a fantastic job of giving us a story that allows us to understand what makes this jerk of a man from the first three books who he is. Tiffany is just the person to take his world and flip it and the way it happens is really good. I love the way Tiffany says " let me tell you a story", and how she gets her points across by doing that is great. I have love the between the sheets books since I first stumbled on the first one, and kept going. I hope you can get as much enjoyment out of this group of friends as I have!!! Julie congrats on winning the bet also, lol

Julie has done it!! she got me to love the douchebag that is Chase!
first off I LOVE THIS SERIES! I am sad this is the last book.
Chase was the biggest douche he was a jerk and a cheater. when i heard she was writing this I was so curious if the author could change my view on him and get me to not only genuinely like him but feel sympathy for him. She absolutely did! I really really enjoyed chase and Tiffany's story. I'm just gonnq throw out there I would love a follow up book with everyone a little in the future...including chase and tiffany as part of the group.
