In Two of a Kind, twelve-year-old Faith, who has grown up in a home for orphans in the distant future, unexpectedly finds herself on the run with a youth named Fisher. Together, they must escape the government forces that hunt them to find hope, family and a new life.
I live in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada with my husband and two young daughters. We’re homeschoolers and entrepreneurs. My husband and I make iOS apps and I write stories. Being a writer is magical - spinning nothing into stories - stories that can light the way to a different world.
I've written a lot of different books. A reader suggested that I list which of my books are for children and which are for adults and teens. Here is that list :)

Two of a Kind introduces us into a world where hoverscooters, hovercars and spaceships and travel to foreign planets are common place. In this world people like Faith and Fisher, people with "talents" are hunted because of their gifts. Their "kind" are not wanted. Hiding from the authorities by using their gifts, Faith and Fisher must make their way to Kappa, hoping that when they reach the distant planet, they will find what is left of their family. This Christian based science fiction book is written as a story for young readers. It fits well into the third grade plus category and promises to be a fun series for boys and girls alike to enjoy. The pacing and plotting are suited for that age group. I began reading this story and enjoyed it so much I finished it in one sitting. The main characters are well conceived and I connected with them instantly. The world she creates becomes real quickly and is easy to envision. I felt as if I was traveling with Faith and Fisher through each trouble they encountered and overcame. The story weaves character building and values into the story as it progresses without being heavy-handed. Now I am ready to begin Book 2 – Gifted – and look forward to completing the series. I think Celesta Thiessen is a YA author I will add to my favorites list.
Dystopian style story with a twist. This was an enjoyable read with the twist of being a science fiction book with a Christian message. The only thing I would have wished is that it had been a little bit longer. I was very interested in knowing what conditions Faith had grown up in at the orphanage. Who were these handlers? Why were they called handlers? It was a very impressive story told quickly. The cover art is spectacular at giving an image of what Faith and her brother are like. I would recommend this for anyone starting to read chapter books, I think, like me, they will be interested in knowing more about Faith and reading the next books. Although it starts out dystopian, it ends on a high note.
Two of a Kind starts and ends with some mystery. It answers a lot during the read but still leaves more for you to wonder.
Faith is saved from the only world she has ever known by someone she doesn't know, yet she feels safe with hm. Fisher tells her some secrets of their past and why he was drawn to her. He has abilities that make him a target, but also allow him to avoid capture. Now he has brought faith into his world with the knowledge she has powers of her own.
It is an action oriented tale that leaves you wanting more. Being this is the start of a series there is enough questions answered to keep you intrigued and enough mystery to send you looking for the next book.
Two of a Kind- Was quite a fast paced reading and was hard to set it down till I had finished reading it!
I wish to give this very fast moving packed mystery story five stars for such a wonderful, fast moving mystery story! Once I was able to sit down today and read it from the sixth chapter on I was so caught up in this story that I just needed to finish reading it and I did get todo it! I recommend this ebook for young readers and old who loves a short Christian type of mystery ebook. I received this ebook for free and have now given it an honest review. Super job Celesta ! This story grabbed my attention right from the start. I found myself rooting for Faith—it sounds as if she had a terrible life as an orphan—and I wanted something good to happen. Then Fisher turned up . . . what a cool kid!
The adventures of this courageous pair have plenty of twists and quirky details that will appeal to young readers and keep them hanging on to see what happens next. The story begins with embedded moral undertones (Faith worries about stealing a scooter) that blossom into Christian concepts. The development of “the way of the cross” is integral to the plot, but it is helpful, rather than preachy. Thank you!
The story opens in an orphan house. We meet Faith as she is being prepared as merchandise in a sale. Enter Fisher - the blond haired young man that seems to be able to change things with his mind. He rescues Faith from her impending sale and leads her on a whirlwind escape. Two of a Kind is a great introduction to these two young mutants - or Talents - that are on the run from a government that seeks to destroy them.
This SciFi is a clean read with light violence, no romance, and a Christianity-based worldview. A great, easy-to-read selection for my nine year old.
Two Of A Kind is a quick read with adventure, sci-fi elements, familial ties and a light message of faith. A perfect read for a middle school child or anyone who enjoys using their imagination in far away places.
The start of an interesting series. This book would easily appeal to the younger crowd. The space travel and hover vehicles will bring them in I am sure. It seems like it is a book that is going to be done in episodes, so that may keep them wanting more. All in all, I liked it.
