I finished reading Death Seer late last night and then spent at least an hour thinking about the story. This third book in the Magelands Dominion series is SO good and just might be one of my favorite Christopher Mitchell books to date. Having read all of Mitchell's books I've come to expect great story telling and wonderfully lovable characters. This book hit all the spots then kept going. Death Seer kept me engaged from page 1, so much so that I read into the early hours of the morning. It was that hard to put down. It brought out so many edge-of-the-seat feelings. I loved the tension-breaking bits of humor. And, oh, the love scenes - I blushed. (tongue in cheek) (Thank you, Christopher Mitchell, for NOT writing romance novels.) I didn't want the story to end. I would give this book ten stars.
What happened? Character's strengths and weaknesses were tested; lines were blurred; loyalties shifted then shifted again. Small letter "g" gods came and went. Lahnos lost the chip on his shoulder. Questions were answered and more were posed. And, I want more.
The Magelands Dominion series is a good entry point into Christopher Mitchell's Magelands universe. Mitchell has done this before - offered entry points, that is. He might do this so as not to overwhelm new readers with the shear volume of books he has written. Just speculating. I find this method to be pure genius. New readers become familiar with Mitchell's writing style, are soon hooked and want more. Let me tell you, when you find an author whose work you enjoy reading, it's exciting to go back and start the journey from the beginning even if you first dipped your toe in along the way. The Magelands universe is filled with so many fabulous adventures and lovers of epic fantasy fiction should read every one of them.
