Who's killing off members of an elite, yet dysfunctional, social club in Stanardsville? That's what private investigator Billy Blackhawk has to find out before another member meets an untimely death. With the help of Jesse's mom, Minnie Watson, the two of them set out to find the answer.
Still recuperating in the hospital, Jesse discovers that Billy and her mother have been covering up their involvement in a dangerous hunt for a killer. She is furious with them both, but the minute she's released from the hospital, she overcomes her anger and joins in their search.
What started out as a prank, the antics of a seemingly sweet, little old lady, lands Daisy Clark in hot water when she becomes the suspect in the death of a club member. Could she possibly be responsible? Eyebrows are raised when others around her start dropping like flies — one member is poisoned, a neighbor goes missing, and the one person who sees right through Daisy Clark is killed when her car is run off the road.
Bodies start piling up and their own lives are put in jeopardy as Billy, Jesse and Minnie are caught in a race against time. Their search for a relentless serial killer can lead to only one conclusion — someone is going to die!
This was a fun and exciting read. Jesse Blackhawk and her husband Billy live in a little town in the mountains of Virginia. Jesse just gave birth to a baby boy, that look just like his father, a Cherokee. Jesse and Billy had their own business. They were private investigators. It's a good thing that they were really good at it. One of Jesse's mothers friends was murdered. She belonged to the Standardsville Social Club. It appeared that 'someone' that was jealous of the one that was killed because she was the president of the club, and someone else wanted to be president. Then another murder with ties to the same club, then another murder with ties to a local family. I really tried to find out the 'who done it' and thought that I had it figured out, but alas, I was wrong. I bet that you will not figure it out either. What a great book. Read it and enjoy!
Another solid Jesse Watson mystery. Women of the elite social club in Stanardsville are being murdered. Jesse and husband, Billy Blackhawk, are racing against the clock to discover the murderer before the serial killer strikes again.
Done with this series. Prologue is intentionally --and falsely --misleading. Once again copious stupidity. The group decides on an actually good idea then suddenly settles on something else. Too many wrong word errors (author still doesn't understand difference between aunt and ant). Not worth investing more time in them.
This is the second novel I've read by Ann Mullen. I couldn't put her first book down, and neither this one. Women's clubs ... can be very eventful. Some women are always better than others, they shun and ignore who they don't like, find fault, and then there are those who want to dominate. There's one here who wants to be the respected leader of the Stanardsville Social Club. She has discovered a way to remove her competition. As a second sequel to "South River Incident," Jessie Watson, now married to her private investigator boss, Billy Blackhawk, Jesse's baby boy, Ethan Samuel Blackhawk, arrives two weeks early. They have also adopted 10-month old Maisy after her parents died. While still at the hospital with her new infant, Billy's brother is shot in the hospital parking lot, but not fatally. Nearly at the same time, a second member of the women's club has been murdered. These novels are very exciting and compelling to read. This story moves right along, but throws you some twists and turns wondering how the villain will be discovered. In this story Jesse's whole family may be victimized which nearly sends Jesse over the edge. But being a new mother, she seems to have a better control over her emotions. Or ... does she? I lost many hours of sleep reading this extraordinary story which has humor, mystery, action, romance, tears ... I'm hooked on the Jesse Watson series. I'm going to read every one of them! You will, too!
WHEN I FIRST STARTED READING THIS THE STYLE OF WRITING SORTA THREW ME OFF, I FINALLY GOT THE HANG OF IT ABOUT 20%. THE STORY JUMPS AROUND (not very smoothly) SO MANY CHARACTERS IT NEEDED TO BE MORE ORGANIZED. SOME OF THE SCENES MAKE NO SENSE AT ALL AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY SOLVED ANY OF THEIR CASES. THE DIALOG BETWEEN CHARACTERS WAS SAPPY, CORNY AND SILLY AND NOT VERY BELIEVABLE. DO PEOPLE REALLY TALK LIKE THAT TO EACH OTHER? HUMM?? ;<
This was much better than the last cooled the drama bit. I'm loving this series. I usually get my books free, glad to have found this author.on to the next.
