WHEN THE GROOM IS THE LAST TO KNOW

Perpetually single Ellen Rhoades had no choice but to make up a fiance, and wish that Josh Hawthorne--the man she told everyone at work she was marrying--would never find out. But Ellen didn't have much luck with wishes.

When Josh did come looking for his "bride-to-be," he surprised Ellen by going along with her charade. Though Ellen had once thought the bachelor millionaire an arrogant playboy, she soon found his charm and attention irresistible. Leaving her to hope her secret groom would take the role for real.

When her promotion at Tarenton Toys looks like it won't go through because she's not married, Ellen Rhoades pretends a romance/engagement with Josh Hawthorne. Josh is an old roommate's flame and in Europe for several months, so she pretends. Then Josh shows up and agrees to the charade to try and get her the job. It all backfires when they really do fall in love but won't admit it because both are marriage shy from their family backgrounds.
