About the author

Umberto Eco was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as Foucault's Pendulum, his 1988 novel which touches on similar themes.

Eco wrote prolifically throughout his life, with his output including children's books, translations from French and English, in addition to a twice-monthly newspaper column "La Bustina di Minerva" (Minerva's Matchbook) in the magazine L'Espresso beginning in 1985, with his last column (a critical appraisal of the Romantic paintings of Francesco Hayez) appearing 27 January 2016. At the time of his death, he was an Emeritus professor at the University of Bologna, where he taught for much of his life. In the 21st century, he has continued to gain recognition for his 1995 essay "Ur-Fascism", where Eco lists fourteen general properties he believes comprise fascist ideologies.

Imge fabrikatörü Eugenio Carmi ile sözcük fabrikatörü Umberto Eco'nun çalışması şahane bir masal kitabı yaratmış... Mesela çocuklara ve kuşlara zarar vermemek için bombaların içinden kaçan atomlar var masalda... Ya da Cecü gezegenini keşfeden ve ona uygarlık götürmek isteyen, ama cücelere gösterebildiği tek uygarlık egzozdan görünmeyen kentler, çöplükten görünmeyen denizler, ağaçsız kırlar... Nefis kitap, nefis masal...

This is a book from my childhood. It is amazing. I will write a research paper on it and it is ironic that the copies of the trilogy are like gem these days. Just check the amazon and abe books price for it. Luckily i have found a soft copy uploaded on a flickr account however without the page numbers it won’t make my job easier. I might have to give it up :( anyway, read this masterpiece.

I understand the message that Eco was trying to send with his trilogy of children's books but I do not care for the extremism he used to portray those messages. I see that as a scare tactic and fear is not the motivator I want to offer children. There are more powerful motivators that allow for greater personal ownership.

Beklentilerini asla karşılamayan bir kitap. Okul öncesinde bin kat iyi edebi dil ve içerikte hikayeler okudum. Halbuki baskısı bile çok heyecan vericiydi 😣

Umberto Eco napisał parabolę ekologiczną skierowaną zarówno do dorosłego, jak i dzieci. K.O. (czyli Kosmiczny Odkrywca) zostaje wysłany w przestrzeń przez Cesarza, ogarniętego ideą odnalezienia nowych lądów. K.O. odnajduje piękną zieloną planetę gnomów i komunikuje im, że chce ich ucywilizować. Pokazuje przez lunetę, czym jest cywilizacja u nas, na Ziemi. Gnomy widzą miasto pokryte smogiem, ocean z wylaną ropą tankowca i ściekami przy brzegu, samochody, które stoją w korkach. K.O. jest coraz bardziej zmieszany a gnomy proponują, że może to one wybrałyby się na Ziemię, żeby ją odkryć?

Krótka forma, jaką zaprezentował tu Eco, jest nachalna w odbiorze i źle się ją czyta - zbyt dosłowna dla dorosłych i jednocześnie nieprzystosowana do wnioskowania właściwego dzieciom. Ilustracja abstrakcyjna na obrazkach Carmiego dodatkowo pogłębia wrażenie, że jest to ochłap sztuki wysokiej rzucony z postumentu dla tłumu, bez żadnego poszanowania dla inteligencji i wrażliwości odbiorcy. Poddany próbie czasu, okazuje się klasycznym przykładem książki z okresu, gdy modna była wśród pisarzy postawa, którą można określić mesjanizmem ekologicznym.

Very wordy for a children's book -- doesn't seem to know its intended audience. The illustrations are cool but I think there are better environmentalist/anticolonialist books for kids out there. And honestly the concept (an explorer from a corrupt Earth empire visits an unspoiled pre-industrial planet, where the kindly natives hear him out but point out the flaws in the "civilization" he wants to introduce to them) feels like an inverted knock-off of The Little Prince.

Gerek çevirisi gerekse çizimleri çok güzel olab bir kitap.
Uç tane şiir masal, verilmek istenen mesajlar ve sorgulanan değerler çizimlerle cok guzel harmanlanmış.
Çocuklara okurken arada durup konular hakkinda konusmak iyi olur diye düşünüyorum.

Bir çocuk kitabından beklemediğim şekilde çok vurucuydu. Gerçi çocuklar için uygun olduğuna da çok emin değilim.

Her sayfada birkaç cümle hatta bazen 1 cümle yazı var, karşı sayfasında da bir resim. Dolayısı ile elinize aldığınızda yarım saatte falan bitiriyorsunuz. Resimlemeleri de ayrıca başarılı buldum
