A small collection containing a few stories about the horrors of emotions. From an abusive relationship to a girl bent on revenge against couples, these stories bring out the darker side of human emotions, a side we all connect to but try to hide. Included is a poem which will be a part of a future collection.
My name is Galea Rain. I just graduated Northern Illinois University with a degree in English. While in school I finished many short stories in between working on my first novel which is part of a series called Changing Rains. I mostly write fantasy, horror, poetry, and young adult fiction.
On top of writing I also am an editor and owner of a self-publishing company called Celtic Knot Books where we provide authors with editing, formatting, and cover art services for authors looking to self-publish their works.I also write for a blog called Red Pen Reviews.
Outside of the literary world I enjoy tabletop roleplaying and cross-stitching. Hanging out with friends and going on adventures; makes life more interesting and inspiring.
The three stories included in Deadly Emotions is an eclectic group, to say the least. They were short but still managed to have some depth; surprising considering there's very few pages total.
The first story is the only one without a supernatural element. The shortest of the three, it tells the story of a girl who allows her boyfriend to physically abuse her until her friend forces her to get help. I liked this one because it was a solid story line, one that could easily be used for a novel or a novella at least. I'm not a huge fan of second person POV but this didn't bother me at all here, which was unusual but promising!
The second story was my favorite, in terms of eliciting the desired response. I was creeped out. It probably doesn't help that I read this at 1 in the morning in a house that was completely dark, but hey. A ghost baby that taunts you with rattle sounds and a constantly-visible baby blanket? Yeah, it's pretty freaky. And the main character's denial of her pregnancy was pretty concerning.
The final story takes the cake. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be my response or not, but I laughed. A dinosaur to solve a girl's angsty I-hate-couples-on-Valentine's-Day? It wasn't particularly bloody, at least not with excessive descriptions. But her reactions were just plain funny to me. She would go from being rational and wanting to stop the velociraptor from its murder spree, then totally flip and say "couples deserve to be ripped to be pieces because I'm not happy." It was absolutely entertaining and I was enraptured by it!
Overall I think this is a good start. Each of these could easily be lengthened out if that was desired, and I think they would stand well on their own as separate stories...

BRUISED.
I found it a little difficult to get into the second person POV at first.
Telling the story of a girl who allows her boyfriend to physically abuse her, and who in turn abuses herself as an escape.
"You can't hurt yourself because he hurts you. "
This has a strong story line, that I believe could be made into a novella. And I would definitely like to read it.
Rating 3 stars.
HAUNTED BY GUILT
WOW! Telling the story of a lost child. This creeped me out MAJORLY! I don't know what it is about little kids and horror stories, but it gets me every time!
That dam baby blanket and a ghost baby that constantly makes rattle sounds! CREEPY! Love the story. This was by far my favourite of the three!
Rating 4.5 stars.
PREHISTORIC VALENTINE.
Um, ok? I'm not sure how to review this one, as I'm sure the author was going for fear? But she got laughter from me, sorry!!
"I am the goddess Hecate," the dark woman responded. "The raptor is my gift to you for your pain. It will take out all the couples that you so angrily despise. Only you can stop it though. Can you face your nightmare?"
My main complaint was this: she went from feeling bad for the couples being ripped limb from limb by the raptor. Then was happy because they 'deserved' it for making her feel sad that she was alone.
Deadly Emotions was as the title says full of various emotions. It was a good read that was made up of 3 very short stories. It can be read in about 15 minutes. It also included a poem from the authors next book.
I personally liked the first two stories best. They were heart wrenching and sad. Both make you feel very emotional towards the characters.
