Book 1: *** Book 2: **** Book 3: ***** Book 4: ***** Book 5: ** Book 6: ** Book 7: ***
Now the serial has finished my overwhelming impression is that Waites bit off a bit more than she could chew. The initial four parts were A.May.Zing. Five through seven - eh, not so much.
What is flawed here is that the story attempts to be far more than a smut-fest: there's an underlying theme of indentity and mindfuckery on which the whole story rests, and this simply isn't developed enough. We're asked to take things on faith that needed to be built up slowly and shown to us.
There's a line in book 7 that sums up the problem:
"It doesn’t take long until I’m in the living room on all fours with Uncle Eric’s cock up my ass and Mr. Harris’s down my throat"
The author can no longer be bothered showing us how Daniel became a spitroast. It's too much trouble. Yeah, yeah, Daniel's a depraved slut, yeah, violation of every orifice, yeah, yeah, seen it, done it, move on.
The series is based on breaking Daniel down to be rebuilt as someone different, and you can't skimp on the details if you want to do this successfully.
Book five was a ghastly disappointment. Our expectations were built up so high with the closing lines of book four, and instead, that was it?? Seriously?
Sadly by book six this became just another Nifty story, instead of the piece of mindblowing hot and warped fiction that I know it could have been.
I'm definitely a fan of Waites. I'm watching avidly for her next, and I hope improved, project.
3.5 stars, rounded up for sheer filthy depravity.
My original review after part three follows:
I am a sick, sick, woman, and I fucking love this serial.
Cross Forgotten and Traded, remove the harshest violence, add schmoop, caning, age play, ass play, enemas, forced exhibitionism, orgasm denial, and a strict and very twisted Daddy, and you have Gamble Everything.
Or, as Daniel puts it,
"I don’t get why he’s playing this weird game, and why he’s cast me as the kid. I don’t need it, despite what he says. So what if I never had a proper childhood? Dressing me up like a kid and shoving things up my ass is not going to change that. He should just admit that I’m on the wrong side of legal for his sick fantasies, and not pretend it’s anything it isn’t."
Technically everyone involved is a consenting adult. Daniel could walk away: he's doing this (initially) for his father's debts. But he never ever tries. Because ass play.
I don't know who Cari Waites is, but I guarantee she's already publishing under another name, because everything here is very polished: the pacing, the characters, the sex. Nothing is left out or too excessive. It's m/m, not gay erotica, and I'm head over heels for this series.
There's three in the series so far, at a buck a piece. Well worth it.
To all my DMC friends, and my non-DMC but equally depraved friends, I urge you to buy all three books and read them consecutively, immediately. I'll understand if you never rate/review them, because loving this make me feel filthy, corrupt, and very very wrong. Buy it!
EDIT: And Part 4 just went up on Amazon today!!
EDIT 24 MAY: part 5 went up today. I'm quite disappointed: it's not going anywhere and felt like more of the same.
The blurb says it all. Oh, except for the very good writing and the savvy ploy of dragging this out over several follow ups that you'll just have to have on hand. Put this on the hot tamale train.
Gamble Everything part 1/Sold = 3.5 stars part 2/Punishment = 3.5 stars part 3/Preparation = 4 stars (enemas! oh my!) part 4/Obedience = 4 stars (candy caning) part 5/Submission = 4.5 stars (sssssounding) part 6/Pain = 4 stars (fisting gesticulating) part 7/Rebirth = 4.5 stars
ATTENTION EVERYONE: Great News! This series are finally published at SMASHWORDS now at a superb price!.
Last 2 weeks back I was just lamenting about my inability to buy the books from Amazon. Hence, I've posted an appeal here in hope someone would notify me should the books be made available elsewhere.
Then, thanks to Emma a kind and helpful GR friend who supplied me with Ms. Cari Waites's email address and suggested for me to write to her. So... I did. And Ms. Cari Waites has be real nice and fulfilled my dreams by making this series available as a bundle at Smashwords for USD3.99 only. Meaning I could get all 7 volumes in one book alone for that awesome price. I love her already. <3
By the way, I've added the Bundle edition into GR database here: Gamble Everything by Cari Waites (for ease of review)
DYING TO GET IT, BUT IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE OTHER THAN AMAZON.
I am dying to read this series but unfortunately it isn't available anywhere else but Amazon - the one place I couldn't purchase any books from due to a regional restrictions there.
So I beg that, should anyone find Sold by Cari Waites made available elsewhere than Amazon, please do nudge me. Thanks in advance. (´ ▽`)o♥♡
I actually bought and read all four volumes that are available in one sitting. This story isn't something that you will 'like' but it very may well be something that you find that you just can't put down.
I am now unhappily waiting for the next installments.
This is going to end up being a very expensive read, but I don't care. It will be one of my favourite guilty pleasures.
I just do not understand how you can give 4 or 5 stars to such a novel. It's pedophilia disguised as BDSM. O.K. Danny has just turned 18. But what would you do if you were a rich pedophile and didn’t want to risk being arrested, seeing your reputation compromised and going to jail? You would buy a child on the darknet or you would find a supplier of young men with a young look.
If I write this, it's not because I don’t know anything about role plays that some BDSMers practice (e.g. Daddy / son or daughter). On the contrary! I know too well the difference between perversion and games: this is consent. Here, it's not a game. Danny's father sold him nothing less to pay his gambling debts. Even if Danny signed some sort of absurd and illegal agreement, he felt that he had no other choice. So this isn't a choice at all. At least, if it was his own debts that Danny was paying for, if it was for his own mistakes that he had to suffer. But it was his father's. And selling his son even for a few weeks is just disgusting. Then, Danny was bought by a pervert named Archer, who had no empathy for his new “son”. He caned him for a yes or a no, especially for a "fuck!" well placed and deserved, from the first day.
What would you say if your father had sold you to a pervert who would have taken you to his home and immediately showed you your new child's room (decorated with planets and stars or Mickey Mice) and you found kids' clothes in the drawers of your new dresser? Seriously, put yourself in his shoes. Would you have been grateful or disgusted? I’m disgusted. And if it's the kind of novels that Cari Waites writes, you can count on me not to read one more.
If I could have given minus 5 stars (demerit points), I’d have done so, but...

Great new slave series from a new (or new under this name) author. The books are very well-written, not just (largely) error free, but insightful, smart, efficient, and memorable. The sex/kink is just about perfect for this reader. It's very intense, no-holds-barred stuff, including acts that I often find disturbing such as age-play, caning, and humiliation, but unlike other writers in the hard-core genre (Carolyn Faulkner for example) the author manages to keep it exciting without going someplace so dark that anything like entertainment becomes impossible.
It helps that the segments are kept short, which mitigates my annoyance over the pricing scheme. Generally I find releases like this--separately priced segments of what is really a single book--infuriating, exorbitant, and sometimes downright deceptive. I was less annoyed than usual here because the writing is very good, the story intense and hot, and actually easier to read in bits. (I say this, though I read straight through the first six--all that are available as of today--in about an hour. But the little break to buy the next book created a useful break both for the reader and for Daniel the narrator.)
This is definitely only for those who like M/M slave narratives, but for that audience, this is a winner, hard-core without being so sadistic it becomes too disturbing to enjoy.
Great short story in an ongoing series I just discovered. Slightly reminiscent of The Flesh Cartel. I can't imagine selling a son to pay off a debt. Excellent writing with a smooth delivery.
Not quite sure how to rate this. I started out pretty neutral and gave it 3 stars but i guess i can appreciate good writing and give it 4.
As the start to a story it has potential to be something great. It was definitely predictable with the debt payment, however i never expected the "scenery". I am still kind of confused about Archer's intentions.
Being just 23 pages, this is literally just the 1st chapter, not a separate, individual book. Whatever you call it, this was fun, exciting and suspenseful. I can’t wait to find out what happens to poor Danny/Daniel!!!!
Not sure what Archer intends to do... but I agree with Danny. He's screwed up. Trying to offer Daniel the childhood he never had, while at the same time fucking him and fucking with him.
Great writing, as I, too, felt my gut churning when arriving at the house, felt sick when Archer forced himself on Danny. And the nervous shudders of knowing that you are stuck in a situation of your own devices with no way out but desperately wishing there was one.
I can't wait to see what happens. I foresee lot of pain for Daniel. For his sake, I hope he comes to enjoy it...

This was recommended to me and yes it is a little different and tormented, but it still captivated me. I see that this is a little taboo and of course I still liked it. Let's see where this leads us.
*CAUTION* Not a typical BDSM read. Read with caution.
