If there was a battle between Spanish 3 and this book, Las Piratas would win! I, shockingly, understood a solid 60% of this book, and am forever grateful for all the journals I got out of writing by reading this instead. Loved the rapidly paced plot and the man-hating main pirate.
Four stars simply because I have never had such a goofy time reading a book in class. This book is objectively bad, but it's so terrible you can't help but enjoy it. I guess the secret is just embracing the stupidity.
This book would be a fun read for middle school or high school. Students would have fun with it and there are some great opportunities to recreate the scenes for a class project.
Well I wanted to practice my Spanish reading skills so I guess this book succeeded in that regard, but it’s truly terrible writing. The characters are complete idiots and incredibly vain. The dialogue is like listening to five year olds. Do real people even say “Ay, caramba!”? I thought that was a stereotype. The only woman in the story is reduced to her beauty and doesn’t really have a thought of her own except that she likes adventure. And the amount of times someone “romantically touched” someone’s arm was hilariously high. Between the poor writing and the fact that the level was pretty easy for me, I won’t be revisiting this one.
Piratas del Caribe y el Mapa Secreto was very intriguing, from the pirates searching for the map to the battles in the middle of the ocean. I read this book in my Spanish class and from the moment we started I couldn't wait to read it again with all the cliff hangers. I really enjoyed the story from beginning to end, apart from the fact that Raquel changed sides during the book, and not caring about the characters she left. The book was very well written, and I would recommend it to anybody who is starting to learn Spanish as it gives a very good variety of vocabulary to learn.

Cute story. I just started (quarantine) reading with my class so I do not know if my students will like it. Mira Canion writes pretty good books, though. And her teachers' guides are useful, with diverse activities. It isn't just lists of comprehension questions. I think I will be keeping this one in the rotation.
When I started this low-level reader as an adult in my 40s trying to improve my Spanish skills, I figured it would be pretty boring but good practice. Well, it was good for my Spanish skills, but it was also a really entertaining story! Drama, mystery, danger, a love triangle…Este libro fácil es perfecto!
i had to read it for spanish class, however it was really sexist and kinda bad. it was however, more interesting than some of the other books we had to read for the same class. it widened my vocab and enriched my language learning experience. very spicy.

As a Spanish learner I like books like this that help me learn the language. To other Spanish learners I advise saying it out loud it helped me with pronunciation and comprehension.
