Two exiled princesses, Lernea and Parcifal, happen upon the roguish Winceham. After a quick chase, they witness the murder of a local innkeeper, Ned's father.
Pledging their sword, shield and bow to cleansing the local lands of the tyrannical pirate lord Hobb and avenging the death of Ned's father.
They meet with a strange elven sorcerer by the name of Hanultheofodor, Theo for short, and his pet magical bunny. When they reach his village, the villagers are all gone and the village has turned into a heap of smouldering ruins.
The quest for vengeance has turned into a rescue mission that will take them across space, have them face abyssal alien terrors and learn so much more about themselves and everything they have taken for granted.
In the grand chessboard of life, they slowly turn from unwitting pawns into grandmasters themselves.
And they manage a good laugh in the process as well.
****** This book contains Parts I to III of the Party of Five fantasy novella series. ******
I read the book in parts before it was ready as a novel.
In Party of Five I you basically meet the 5 main characters of the story: The two sisters Lernea and Parcifal, Winceham, Ned and Theo with his bunny.
And this is just the beginning of a fantasy story and an adventurous journey in which they also meet strange Theo and his bunny with flames in its eyes. The five of them, always accompanied by the bunny, go through the story while getting the chance to know each other under humorous dialogues.
While the 1st part was the beginning of the story, Party of Five II doesn 't fail to keep you from putting down the book. In Party of Five II the heroes sail through space! So, fantasy life happens and the five of them get parted only to find themselves in personal adventures meeting new allies and making new enemies.
In Party of Five III, which completes the Game of Po, the author handled the story very well, with shorter chapters, each one of them describing the path taken by each of the main characters. In part III you get to think between lines, life, you get to read motivational speeches and taste the combats.
The author succeeded in the authenticity of the characters. My personal favorite is Winceham the halfuin whose apathy and coolness is way bigger than his size and age. Each one of them is essential to the bigger whole.
I 'd love to have Party Of Five IV in my hands but the author hasn't written it yet. YET! I urge him to start writing! Given the 1st book 's awesomeness, I 'm sure that the 2nd is going to be great!
