Come Fly With Me

Rate this book
From mansions in Emerald Bay, to hilltop villas in the Caribbean, Come Fly with Me is the story of a woman coming into her own in a world where the sky is the limit. Kate Randolph is young, beautiful and rich, and her passion is flying. In the air she feels a freedom she feels nowhere else, and it’s where she dreams of escape from her marriage to a cold, distant husband. Rick Sanders, her tough flight instructor, challenges Kate to always rise to the occasion and trust her instincts. A series of unexpected events forces both to look beyond the usual facades, and as a result, Kate and Rick liberate each other––she rescues him in a harrowing mission into Southeast Asia that proves her mettle once and for all, and he releases her to be the woman she was meant to be––no holds barred.

I've had this book on my shelves for a couple of months before I decided to pick it up (the bright blue spine was hard to ignore) I'm so happy I finally picked this book up- I fell in love with this story. From my understanding is this is Authors debut novel- let's just say she has this in the bag* Come Fly with Me has a little bit of everything to appeal to all readers. Pacing was great- Characters were likable and vibrant, Writing was fantastic- Author has a wide vocabulary and never overused words throughout the story. The Authors attention to detail and descriptions were outstanding, which made this book so enjoyable. All the small details throughout this book you may have not given much thought too- tie perfectly together towards the end. I loved every minute of this book and this is not my usual genera- I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a well-written romance/adventure filled with surprises and an actual story-line not dominated in the bedroom. The first couple of chapters I felt a little thrown in as your introduced to most of the characters early on, but by chapter four I was hooked and couldn't put it down. Come Fly with Me would be great to curl up with in front of a fireplace- to bad I don't have one. This book was a true delight- I look forward to more from this Author and would pick up her next book without hesitation. NOTE: I won a copy of Come Fly with Me in a giveaway for free in hopes of an honest review being posted online. http://reesasbookblog.blogspot.com/20......

I read this book as part of a Twitter Book Club, a group of authors and myself started..if interested in joining, you can let me know @mchorsky.
Judith Whitmore wrote a wonderful story about a woman named, Kate Randolph. You will fall in love with her. She is in her 30’s and married to Sam Randolph, who is thirty years her senior. While many question such a love; especially his son (Derek), she is definitely in love with him.
While she has all the luxuries money can buy, she is still not as happy as she should be. She feels rather alone. Kate is a very talented woman, and has a lot to offer as a teacher. But, once she married Sam, she stopped teaching. So, she opened a charity for “latch key girls” called Safe Haven…which her husband does not support, even with all of his money.
Kate then meets Rick Sanders, who was an Airline Transport Pilot. Of course, Sam has a Lear Jet, and Rick often serves as the pilot. Kate and Rick meet, and they get the “butterflies”. Yet, Kate is not willing to give up on her marriage.
This story surprised me, as it was chuck full of greatness. I was surprised by how much storyline was in this book, as I truly expected just a love story…But, it was much more than that.
I never got bored with this book, and that says a lot, because stories over 300 pages tend to bore me at some point.
You will love this story…read it by the beach, or outside…I read it on the couch, wishing weather was nice, so I could go lay on my hammock ..

First of all, I must applaud the author. This is apparently her very first novel, but it's so well written and so entertaining, I'm impressed.

This book has it all:

A woman finding herself. Married to a very wealthy man, you'd think Kate has it all. But in truth, despite her riches, she seriously lacks some of the most important things: her husband's love and respect. He just wants a woman at home. He doesn't want her to work or anything else. She rebels in her own way by having a special charity program, but it's not enough. But when she finds what she wants, she has conflicting emotions. After all, she wants her handsome flight trainer, but she's married.

The infidelity in this novel was tastefully done. I'd like to put that out there. Don't believe me? Read it for yourself. You'll see what I mean.

A man learning to trust again. Daredevil pilot Rick doesn't have much love for women, just their bodies, and there's a story behind this...but Kate gets past his rough exterior.

Conflict. Hey. Crap happens. Some major stuff goes down in the last quarter of the book and it just may keep the two lovebirds apart.

Adventure. Incredible flying scenes throughout the novel add that feeling of adventure long before the ending involving a third-world country, stolen rubies, and jail time. We almost learn to fly the Lear along with Kate. When Rick teaches her take off with a stalled engine, when she has her flight test, my heart was pounding along with her.

I could sit here all day telling you why I enjoyed this book. At first the heroine wasn't as feisty as I like, but by the end, she was the kind of woman who tells off customs officials for mistaking her for a flight attendant. Readers will watch Kate grow, come out of her shell, gain some confidence, find love, and learn to forgive.

Once I started this novel, I couldn't put it down. I read it in a day. That's how hooked I was.

I read this book for 2 reasons; firstly since I downloaded a free copy of the book from Kindle & secondly because I have this condition that I should get treated immediately! Once I start reading something, I can't stop even if I want to.

I generally do not give low ratings because I know the author must've put really long time and effort into creating it. And considering this is the first book of the author, the book isn't so bad.

So let me get on with constructive criticism:
1. I do not like the main characters, she seems too fake to me.
2. I'd have preferred if the story was more precise. The books is too long for my liking.
3. I can't exactly pinpoint but the narration seems very naive.
4. Apart from the spark, I'm not sure if Kate likes or knows anything more about Rick or probably the book was soo lengthy, I skim read most of it.

COME FLY with ME

Judith Whitmore

Reviewed by Roy Murry, Author

Come Fly with Me is a delightful story about the love of flying and a man and woman. Both have to work at it to stay in the right direction.

Whitmore's characters are strong personalities. Each is moving in the direction he or she wants his or her lives except Kate Randolph, who is married to a wealthy man much older. She is having problems being alone with her husband out making money.

Kate does have endeavors. She can fly small airplanes and managers a non-profit. The incompleteness of her marriage and the purchase of a Learjet by her husband send her in another direction - she wants to qualify to fly the jet, and her husband's pilot is recruited to teach her.

Here is where emotional directions change again for Kate, her husband, and the pilot. However, it is an event in her husband's other personal life that intensifies the situation for better or worst depending on what family member you are.

The story has some twists that will surprise the reader. However, all in all, the novel is a well-written love story.

30-something Kate Randolph was stuck in a lonely marriage to a 50-year old Sam. Afraid to lose the financial stability, she continued to stay with him, suffering in silence. Kate and Sam’s marriage kind of reminded me of the rich couple in the famous novel, Rebecca—cold, distant, and kind of creepy. Sam often talked to her like she was a small child. My only question was: Why? Why did Kate put up with him?

Then she started taking flight lessons from hot instructor, Rick. The attraction was mutual between the two. While Kate and Rick wrestle with their growing feelings for each other, the reader roots for them to give in to a “happy landing.” But “would the emotions born on the tropical island be allowed to grow, or would they wither like an untended garden?” (231)

Kate was one lucky girl! She married the millionaire and got to shack up with the flight instructor. God, it makes me want to take flying lessons!

A well-written and gripping story of what it means to “surf the clouds” and fly on your own.

everyone, I read this book so long ago now, but I think about it from time to time... I have a signed copy oh so beautiful for my shelves... but really, that's not the reason... Anyway, this book just sat right with me for this category. I was having a difficult time in the first couple/few chapters and felt like I was being thrust into meeting so many new characters at once, but once I got it down, and the author did, it was smooth sailing from there.

I really enjoyed this story and have to share it with you all in case you'd like to check it out sometime. (Plus, the character thing... coulda just been a me thing lol, you know, sometimes starting a new book can be difficult at times) I found myself reading later than planned and was interested in this cast of characters and their story much more than I had even realized. So, like I didn't know I was so wrapped up in the book that three hours had gone by past my bedtime lol, that type of thing happened. ;) Check it out!! SUMMER READING!! ~Theresa

Come Fly With Me is a great read! This novel is filled with romance, adventure, aviation and plenty of unexpected twists. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found myself not being able to put it down once I started. I loved Judith Whitmore's use of details to set a scene. From sunny Southern California to the beaches of the Carribean, I felt transported and carried away by her descriptions. I highly recommend this novel which includes a very strong female lead character, Kate, who is a pilot! Don't let the dreamy cover fool you, there's lots of action and adventure to go along with the whimsy and charm of this novel. Loved it!

Whitmore did a great job balancing a story including classy romance, adventure and real life obstacles. I love how humble Kate is, while holding a fiery-spark inside. And thank you thank you thank you for the discrete love scene. Not too over the top, which is what tends to steer me away from romance, but just enough to keep me reading until 2am!
Looking forward to the sequel!! Maybe a baby aviator in the future??

Not very believable and not very steamy, but the writing was decent. It was like drinking a cocktail on the beach and appropriately, there was a drink recipe at the end. A breezy book, I guess?

Great writing, but it's too bad it's wasted on such a shallow storyline.
